    Get PDF
The achievement of regional security has been a cardinal foreign policy objective of Nigeria since her independence from Britain in 1960. Through the instrumentality of the Economic Community for West African States (ECOWAS), Nigeria has made an immense contribution towards the achievement of this regional objective of promoting and maintaining regional security. Nigeria’s contribution to regional security in Africa, especially the West African sub-region through mediation and interventions in conflicts has never been in doubt. In her effort to promote and maintain regional security, the country has been able to provide logistics and funding at very crucial moments in the history of ECOWAS. Through constant interventions in conflicts in the West African sub-region, there is no doubt that Nigeria has been able to play a defining role in regional security in the sub-region. This paper discussed the position of Nigeria in West Africa, and her interventions in the sub-region. The paper also examined Nigeria’s contribution to regional security and critically analyse her national interest and interventions in West Africa. Finally, the paper concludes that Nigeria has made immense contributions towards the promotion and maintenance of regional security, and has intervened in almost all the conflicts in West Africa without corresponding positive reward

Whenever we attempt to define any word having a “global” morpheme in it, that word entails a cognition that the term is affecting the whole world, be it “globalization”, “global market”, “global economy” or “global warming”. So, when we talk about globalization which itself is a process of interaction among people of the whole world (the basis of this interaction may vary from trading of goods to the exchange of revolutionary ideas); then we can’t ignore the diversity of approximately 7.7billion people. When such a diverse population interacts on any level then it is only natural that things are going to advance forward, as only a strong idea or innovation can actually become global. Hence any society coming under its radar is going to go under some kind of transition from its traditional self. This paper attempts to explain whether globalization has stimulated any transition among Rabhas or not?  Rabhas are the tribal people of West Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya. In West Bengal Rabhas manly live in Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar district. Referring themselves as “Koch”, Rabhas of Jalpaiguri were originally a forest-dwelling tribe, marked by its matrilineality. Scholars like M.K Raha in his book “Matriliny to Patriliny: A Study of the Rabha Society” (1974) and others have argued that Rabhas are undergoing transition. Even though the transition from matriliny to patriliny has been highlighted by several authors and scholars but there is a transition occurring at more than one level and this paper is an attempt to highlight such transitions

As technology continues to expand, adolescents have embraced interaction through social media platforms. They interact through sharing comments, posting photos, profile updates, etc. Some of the social media platforms that adolescents use is Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Snapchat, YouTube, among others. This article explored the effects of social media interaction on self-presentation among adolescents in high school in Nairobi County, Kenya. A descriptive survey design was used to understand the phenomenon. A questionnaire was used to collect data from the respondents. A sample size of 400 respondents was obtained through stratified random sampling and simple random sampling. SPSS version 20 was used to help analyze the data for descriptive statistics, and linear regression was used to predict the effect of social media interaction on the self-presentation. The regression model was significant F (1, 344) =38.618, p-value <.05. Further, the R Square (R2) = .101 shows 10.1% of students’ self-presentation can be attributed to social media interaction. The coefficient of the self-presentation based on the students’ social media interaction showed the regression weight was statistically significant (p<.05). The output showed social media interactions affect students' self-presentation (? = .318, t = 6.348, p<.05), hence an increase of social media interaction interrupts the students’ self-presentation by .318. It is necessary to have seminars and workshops to educate the parents, teachers, youth workers and adolescents on these effects
