For this reason, the data collection process is carried out through participatory observation techniques, open interviews, and documentation. The data obtained were then analyzed through ethnographic procedures developed by Wolcott (1990), based on Cultural Theory and other relevant supporting theories. Based on this, the researchers conclude: first, that the process of organizing the Long Amulet Ceremony at the Kasepuhan Palace in Cirebon was motivated by a long history of celebrating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad SAW which was carried out from the time of Sunan Gunung Jati to the present palace; which is managed by a committee system that involves elements outside the palace; presented through various series of activities that are packaged in an attractive manner; carried out by the sultan as customary holders, the mosques as holders of religious authority, sentana wargi, nayaka, kemantren, and court women; which is carried out in "holy" places and other places that are "considered holy"; which is supported by the community from among the "palace relatives", "abdi dalem", "invited guests", "visitors", and "travelers". Second, that the activities of the Long Amulet Ceremony are interpreted differently by the supporting community; for the "palace relatives" and "abdi dalem", the ceremony is interpreted as a momentum to strengthen the spirit of monotheism and the example of the Prophet Muhammad; for the "invited guests", the ceremony is more interpreted as a momentum of practical business and political communication; for the "visitors", the ceremony is only interpreted as a momentum to memorize blessings (to pick up blessings); and for the "traveler", the ceremony is only meant as a means of fun and impressive entertainment. which is supported by the community from among the "palace relatives", "abdi dalem", "invited guests", "visitors", and "travelers". Get PDF
This study examined the geospatial distribution and accessibility of road networks to the educational facilities in Delta State: A transport geographical appraisal. The administrative map of Delta State was acquired and used to prepare the geographical information of the entire road networks of the study area. The choice of nodes was based on population size. Based on the adopted operational definition of major centres, 50 major centres were identified. The Pearson's product-moment correlation coefficient, as well as the regression techniques, were used in the analysis. A high correlation coefficient value (r = 0.60) was obtained between post-secondary institutions (x1) and primary institutions (x3). For access to have meant it should be people-oriented. The correlation between population and functional index of educational facility occurrence gives (r = 0.13). This means that large population centres tend to have fewer numbers and lower order types of educational facilities in the study area. The coefficient of determination of the relationship is given as 0.017 which indicates that population has no effect on the distribution of educational facilities in Delta State. This implies that population alone does not attract the establishment of educational facilities while small population centres tend to be favoured in the study area. Based on the findings recommendation was proffered

Factors Affecting Adoption of Climate-Smart Agricultural Technologies: Evidence from Nandi County, Kenya

    Get PDF
Adoption of Climate Smart Agricultural Technologies (CSAT) such as Biogas production, silage making, agroforestry, and water conservation help in improving smallholder production. However, in rural areas of Nandi County of Kenya, the adoption of CSAT amongst smallholder dairy farmers is low. In this study, we analyze factors that affect the adoption of CSAT using information drawn from 350 smallholder dairy farmers participating in the East Africa Dairy Development program.  Using the ordered Logit model, we find that the intensity of adoption of CSAT is partly affected by access to extension and credit services. Specifically, we showed that farmers who had access to extension services and credit lines were more likely to adopt drought-resistant crops but not biogas production, agro-forestry, and silage making. Moreover, our result showed that owning a stable tenure system allows farmers to adopt technologies that require more land and take more time like biogas production, drought crops, agroforestry, water storage, and silage making. Finally, we showed that distance between a farmer’s home and the farm is an important factor in adopting agricultural technology. This effect is more pronounced amongst technologies that are heavy to transport like biogas production, water storage and conservation, zero-grazing, and silage making
