A comprehensive study of Socio-Economic Determinants of Strand Selection in Senior High School among Grade 10 Students

This study investigated the socio-economic factors influencing the Senior High School (SHS) strand selection among 70 Grade 10 students. Using a mixed-methods approach, it explored how family income, parental education, occupation, and perceived social class shaped students’ educational choices. Quantitative findings, analyzed through chi-square tests, showed no statistically significant relationship between socio-economic variables and strand choice. However, qualitative responses revealed nuanced insights into the decision-making process. A thematic analysis of open-ended responses identified five major challenges: (1) self-doubt and confidence issues, (2) difficulty aligning interests with strand options, (3) peer and family influence, (4) financial and practical considerations, and (5) no perceived challenges. These themes illustrated how students navigated both internal and external pressures when selecting a strand. The study draws upon Human Capital Theory, Social Reproduction Theory, and Social Cognitive Career Theory to interpret findings and highlight the complex interplay of socio-economic, psychological, and environmental factors in educational decision-making. The results underscore the importance of responsive and inclusive career guidance programs that acknowledge diverse student contexts. Recommendations are provided to assist educators and policymakers in supporting equitable, informed strand choices aligned with both student potential and life circumstances

The Influence of Asset Growth and Asset Size on Systematic Risk (Beta) of Banking Stocks on the Indonesia Stock Exchange

This study aims to analyze the effect of asset growth and asset size on the systematic risk (beta) of banking stocks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Systematic risk is a risk that cannot be eliminated through diversification and is an important indicator for investors in assessing the sensitivity of stocks to market changes. The number of samples in this study was 41 banks for 3 years, resulting in 123 observations. This study uses multiple linear regression methods with secondary data obtained from the bank's annual financial statements and market information. The results of the study indicate that asset growth has a positive and significant effect on systematic risk. This indicates that high asset growth tends to increase the systematic risk of stocks. Conversely, asset size has a negative and significant effect on systematic risk, which means that banks with larger asset sizes have lower systematic risk. The regression model shows that both variables together explain most of the variability in the systematic risk of banking stocks. This study provides an important contribution to investors and bank management in understanding the relationship between asset growth, asset size, and systematic risk of stocks. The implications of this study can help investors in making better investment decisions and provide guidance for banks to manage risk through appropriate asset management strategies

Impact of Communication Channels on Community Participation in Government-Funded Schools Projects in the Morogoro Region

This study assesses the impact of communication channels on community participation in government-funded schools in the Morogoro Region, employing an interpretivist philosophical framework and a qualitative research approach. The study's population consisted of ward education officers (2), head of schools (10), ward councilor (1), and ten (10) school board chairman, making a total of 23 participants. The findings reveal a significant disconnect between traditional communication methods, such as notice boards and community meetings, and their effectiveness in engaging diverse community members. While these channels are commonly used, they often fail to reach marginalized groups, highlighting the need for more inclusive strategies. Interviews and focus group discussions with educational stakeholders, including headmasters and ward education officers, reveal challenges such as low attendance at community meetings and barriers like language and literacy that hinder effective communication. The findings suggest that while radio broadcasts and mobile communication present opportunities for broader engagement, their success relies on culturally and linguistically appropriate content. The study underscores critical policy gaps, emphasizing the necessity for reform that integrates innovative communication methods alongside traditional approaches. By aligning with international frameworks, such as the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, the research advocates for tailored training programs for educators and community leaders to enhance messaging effectiveness. Overall, this study contributes to understanding the complexities of communication in fostering community participation, ultimately advocating for policies that promote inclusivity and sustainability in educational development efforts

This study examines accent biases in second language English learners who speak Korean as their first language. The research took place in an international school located in Jeju Island, South Korea. The study investigates what accent biases are, how they are established against second language English learners, and why people act on these accent biases. Results were collected through an online questionnaire that tested Korean-English bilinguals and English monolinguals’ perceptions of English second language learners’ accents. The audio files of differently accented speakers were obtained through Speech Accent Archive. Research survey participants were presented with audio clips of three different speakers for scenario one, a law firm job interview situation and scenario two, meeting the speakers as newly acquainted friends. The study explores factors that may affect the exercise of accent biases in our society, such as the broadness of the speaker’s accent, the perceiver’s linguistic background, and the context of the interaction. The research tests statistically the correlation between these factors and the accent biases expressed better to understand accent bias towards second language English learners. As a result, the study will guide in the direction of efforts that can be made to eradicate accent biases in decision making situations.&nbsp

Background: Health care policies directly affects the nursing profession. Given that nursing is a multifaceted, interactive, interdisciplinary, and complex profession, health policies are unavoidably necessary. In order to attain quality care, accessibility, and cost-effective care to improve the quality of life and welfare of society, nurses are expected to consciously recognize the challenges and collaborate with other decision makers to initiate, influence, create, and advance current health care policies. Purpose: To identify the elements affecting nurses' influence on health care policy and offer the advice that nurses need to support choices about the creation and application of policies. Methods: Desktop review was done on 18 articles published between January 2001 and May 2022. PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar and the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) databases and internet engines were searched. The following phrases were used to search for the data: “nursing policy”, “politics”, “health care policy”, “nurses influence on policy making/politics/health policy”, “nurses challenges in policy making/politics/policy”, and “importance of nursing policy making/politics/health policy” Results: According to the analysis, nurses have the ability to influence health-related decisions and affairs through their political knowledge, effective communication, and teamwork with other members of the health team. This improves the work environment for nurses and improves patient outcomes. Conclusion: In conclusion, the researcher observed that nurses' participation in policymaking has not increased over time. Majority of the authors in this study focused on the following issues as obstacles to the development of health policies: a lack of resources, a lack of enabling structures, a negative perception of nursing, and a lack of knowledge and skills in policy making. Recommendation: Nurse leaders play a crucial role in mentoring, supporting, and developing future nurse policy makers because nurses must be active rather than passive agents who come out to influence and take the lead in policy development. The use of health policy in nursing discipline allows for career growth by providing a guiding and driving force, where the professional body of nurses is directed towards achieving their mission and vision through their set course values and beliefs.

Conceptualization of Public Health in India: An Evolutionary Perspective

Public health is a wider and a complex concept. It is concerned with the health of the population. The very notion of what constitutes ‘public’ in public health has been subject to different interpretations across time and contexts. This paper traces the evolution of public health conceptualization in India through five distinct phases from independence to present. It examines conceptual transformations that have shaped governance approaches and continue to influence contemporary challenges. Through historical analysis, the study identifies transformations: from nation-building focus (1947-1983) to pragmatic private sector accommodation (1983-1990) which was followed by market-dominated approaches during liberalization (1990-2005), rights-based reconceptualization (2005-2020), and emergency governance and digital surveillance during COVID-19 (2020-present). It was found that each phase added new perspective in previous ones rather than replacing them. As a result, contemporary framework involves contradictory principles such as market mechanisms alongside rights discourse, universal coverage with targeted programs, and digital surveillance amid privacy concerns. The COVID-19 pandemic governance highlighted the limitations of existing legal frameworks and introduced unprecedented dimensions of inter-sectoral coordination and digital health governance. It concludes that public health conceptualization is not merely a technical exercise but also addresses questions about state capacity, citizen rights, federal governance, and the relationship between individual and collective welfare. It reflected deeper tensions about state authority, federal governance, and individual versus collective welfare which needs coherent approach to reconcile accumulated contradictions while maintaining crisis adaptability

Program Keluarga Harapan, hereinafter referred to as (PKH), is a program of the  Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs RI that provides conditional social assistance to Poor Families (KM) designated as PKH Beneficiary Families (KPM). This program provides conditional social assistance to KPM. However, in reality, the social assistance that should be used by the underprivileged to meet their needs is instead used by other family members to meet their daily needs. This study aims to describe and analyze the implementation of the Family Hope Program based on Regent Regulation No. 15 of 2023 concerning Direct Cash Assistance for the Family Hope Program in Sukorejo Kulon Village, Tulungagung District. This research is descriptive qualitative with a policy implementation model using Merille S. Grindle's Public Policy Implementation theory, which is determined by the content of the policy and its implementation context. The basic idea is that the policy implementation is carried out after the policy is transformed. Its success is determined by the degree of implementability of the policy. The objectives of this study are to 1) analyze poverty alleviation policies through the Family Hope Program in Sukorejo Kulon Village, Kalidawir Subdistrict, Tulungagung Regency. 2. To identify and analyze the obstacles/constraints in the implementation of the Family Hope Program in Sukorejo Kulon Village, Tulungagung Regency, the technical data analysis uses three components, namely 1) reducing data by summarizing or selecting key points from the data obtained, 2) presenting the reduced data in the form of a brief description, and 3) drawing conclusions after presenting the data. Then, to test the validity of the data, the author used triangulation by using different data collection techniques to obtain data from the same source
