    Get PDF
Seedling spacing is an important factor which plays a vital role in boosting yield. Many plants are very sensitive to this factor especially cowpea, a key plant with major benefits to households nutrition and health around the world. However, cowpea seedling spacing still a factor that requires adjustment in many countries, especially in Burundi where this crop is not yet well domesticated, with cultivation under traditional systems, inadequate planting methods coupled with lack of different varieties. An experiment was carried out in three blocks completely randomized with three replications for each. It has considered three cowpea varieties (local and Tanzanian varieties (Katumani and Vuli)) and four seedling spacing (SS): SS1 (50cmX40cm); SS2 (50cmX50cm); SS3 (60cmX40cm) and SS4 (60cmX50cm). Results highlighted Seedling spacing SS1 as the effective seedling spacing which could effectively improve all studied growth parameters and yield attributes for local and katumani varieties. It has effectively improved plant height; leaf area index; the number of flowers, pods and grains. Moreover, this seedling spacing has also recorded enhanced crop yield, whence it has been considered as the most effective seedling spacing, especially for local (L) and katumani (K), varieties which could be considered for cultivation in Burundi. Regarding Vuli variety, although it has also recorded improved yield, data variabilities was observed, whence further studies were recommended for more clarification.   &nbsp

    Get PDF
The Cassava grating machine that was designed has two modes of operation, it can be powered either electrically or manually. It takes care of power failure problems. The Cassava is fed with the Machine through the hopper made of metal sheet to the granting drum, which rotates at a constant speed. This process grates the cassava into cassava pulp. The chute made up of metal sheet accepts the pulp and sends it out because of its inclination which is operated manually. The efficiency of the machine was found to be 82.7%, which the efficiency of the electrically powered machine was found to be 79.5%. The need for the hygienic processing of cassava, is very important as well as the prevalent conditions in the commercial grating areas of this staple food as it is likely to be affected by food contamination. A home-scale cassava grating machine was designed and fabricated, with machine efficiency, safety factors, and portability all taken into consideration. The grating hopper and drum are modified with the drum having a stainless-steel sheet wrapped around a galvanized mild steel core. The machine runs on a single phase 6.5HP (horse power), electric motor, multiple customers with increased through-put when compared to other available grating machines. The performance efficiency of the grater for fresh cassava samples depends on the results showing significant variation for combination of process parameters. This study carried out the performance and optimization evaluation of single barrel cassava grating machine on selected fresh and stored cassava species. The species were used at different levels of moisture content, 70.4% db. and 58.4% db. depicting the average moisture contents obtained for fresh and stored cassava respectively.

Population aging around the world is increasing dramatically. Also, it is now a big burden on low and middle-income countries. Healthy old age will be a benefit for the person themselves and the country, too. According to Unani concept, if old age is managed in a proper way that can preserve the health of that individual. Unani texts and published journal articles were considered.  Unani describes that the temperament of old age is cold and dry in nature and therefore the regime suitable for old age people renders the body warm and moist. A night of sufficient sleep in a pleasantly aroma odoured room, massage with oil at a moderate level, and then a gentle exercise like walking are beneficial to keep healthy old age.  The flow of urine continuously assisted by diluents and also the residues should be out of the stomach by the way of bowels without constipation. A warm bath generally benefits for old age

    No full text
The Aceh Information Commission has the authority to settle Public Information Disputes through mediation and/or non-litigation adjudication, so in the context of carrying out the dispute resolution function, the Aceh Information Commission has a procedure that regulates the procedure for how a case is submitted, until the procedure for the Board of Commissioners gives a decision. In the Public Information Disclosure Act (KIP), it has been regulated as in Chapter IX starting from Article 40 to Article 46, and furthermore it has also been regulated in Information Commission Regulation Number 1 of 2013, concerning Procedures for Settling Public Information Disputes or abbreviated as PPSIP. This study aims to describe and analyze Public Information Dispute Resolution Procedures at the Aceh Information Commission through Mediation and Adjudication, as well as describe and analyze Encouraging Factors and Obstacles to Procedures for Settling Public Information Disputes through Mediation and Adjudication. In this research, the writer uses a qualitative approach, with the consideration that the writer intends to obtain an in-depth picture of a particular social phenomenon in the sense of describing the Procedure for Resolving Public Information Disputes at the Aceh Information Commission. To obtain data sources in this study through the selection of informants carried out deliberately (purposive sampling). Based on the type and source of data needed, data collection techniques used include (a) In-depth interviews, (b) Documentation Analysis, and (c) Direct Observation. In the process of data analysis techniques using an interactive model that includes three components of analysis, namely data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the handling of dispute hearings does not necessarily take place after 14 (fourteen) working days after the dispute is registered. In 2018 there were 14 (fourteen) case registers whose stages of the Adjudication Hearing were completed in 100 (one hundred) working days. This shows that in the implementation there are still things that are not in accordance with the PPSIP regulations. Lack of socialization related to procedures for resolving information disputes to the public has not been evenly and continuously in the Regencies / Cities in Aceh. At present the court facilities and infrastructure are inadequate. The need to increase the capacity of the KIA Commissioner, increase the understanding of the Public Agency apparatus, and the public regarding procedures for resolving public information disputes, and it is hoped that the Government of Aceh will have a standard and balanced budget platform for the Aceh Information Commission

    Get PDF
Landraces are the major sources for creating variation in crops which offer enormous opportunity to plant breeders for development of new cultivars through selection. Fifteen upland rice landraces were considered in this study to determine the genetic variation based on phenotypic evaluation of traits. The study was carried out in two wet season during 2015 and 2016 in randomized complete block design with three replications. The genotypes were evaluated for phenotypic characters such as days to heading, days to maturity, plant height, panicle length, number of filled grains, tillers/m2, thousand grain weight and grain yield. The statistical analysis revealed highly significant difference (P<0.001) for all the traits except panicle length, filled grains and grain yield. Similarly, year effect was highly significant (P≤0.001) for majority of traits except for plant height and panicle length. The genotype x year interaction was found significant (P<0.01) for days to heading and plant height (P<0.05). The result demonstrated that the genotype UR D010 found earliest in heading (64 days) and maturity (94 days). Although statistically nonsignificant, two genotypes UR D010 (5.23 t ha-1) and UR D002 (5.21 t ha-1) were at par with check variety Ghaiya-1(5.36 t ha-1)in grain yield respectively. The genotypes UR D009 and UR D006 possessed fine grain (17.3 g) and (17.8 g) respectively according to 1000 grain weight basis. The genotype UR D005 has the longest panicle (25.8 cm) followed by UR D008 with panicle length (25.5cm). It is obvious from the study that the genotypes were greatly differed among each other for various morphological traits. The findings of this study suggested us to further investigation of genotypes to identify best suited genotype to utilize for varietal improvement programs

    Get PDF
Mini-Ezi Stream is one major aquatic ecosystem in Elele-Alimini that receives arrays of wastes generated from agriculturalfarms, residential homes, fecal discharges and other products of anthropogenic activities along the stream course. Samples ofwater from the stream were collected to assess the physicochemical characteristics during both dry and wet seasons. Thirteenphysicochemical parameters were analyzed. pH, Electrical Conductivity (EC), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Temperature andTurbidity were determined in situ, while Bicarbonate, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), TotalHardness (TH), Chloride (Cl-), Phosphate (PO4 3-), Nitrate (NO3-) and Sulphate (SO4 2-) were determined using standard analyticalprocedures in the laboratory. The result revealed that Temperature, EC, TDS and Bicarbonate levels showed significant differences (p˂0.05), with the dry season recording higher mean values than the wet season. On the other hand, NO3-, PO4 3-, Cland SO42 recorded higher mean values in wet season which may be due to runoff from land mass. The result showed that all the physicochemical parameters analyzed in water from Mini-Ezi Stream were within the national and international set standardsexcept for turbidity that was above the set standard. Therefore, this study can serve as baseline information for the periodic monitoring of water quality of the stream
