    Flexible Manufacturing Systems Performance Analysis and Improvement

    Due to the intense market competition, managements of manufacturing industries are striving to optimize their manufacturing lead times, enhance quality of products, increase part variety, and reduce production cost. Thus, the trend towards market globalization requires these manufacturing environments to be designed, analyzed for its performance and improved in such way that it can cater the market place challenges to survive and grow in the sector. In this paper a case study of Hibret Manufacturing & Machine Building Industry (HMMBBI) in flexible manufacturing system (FMS) shop is presented. The goal of the study is to analyze the performance of FMS and propose a performance improvement method. Analytical methods of performance analysis-bottleneck model and its extension called ‘extended bottleneck model’ are applied to determine the current production rate and the percentage workstations utilization of the existing FMS shop. The proposed FMS with balanced workloads between workstations has shown a significant improvement in percentage utilization of workstations, production lead time and as well as production throughput

    Comparative Analysis of Different Treatments Effects on Stylosanthes Guianensis Production Parameters in Imbo, Natural region of Burundi

    In Burundi, the major problem for livestock is the lack of sufficient nutrients needed for its growth and development due to Burundi higher population growth rate which put a pressure on arable lands and pastures leading to grass pastures reduction. However the concentrates that can be used alternatively are not only insufficient, but also very expensive under the local farmer conditions. In the Burundi, livestock reduction was recorded while it occupies an important place in Burundian life, especially for smallholders to whom it plays a major role in terms of social life, health and income generation. Fortunately, stylosanthes Guianensis has been identified as an herbaceous forage legume with potential protein supplements of better impacts on livestock growth, development and production. It is more accessible to smallholder, whence this study has been carried out to improve stylosanthes production for better livestock feeding. The experiment has considered six seedling spacing as treatments to analyze the treatment which could effectively improve the stylosanthes production parameters in Imbo natural region. These treatments (T1 (40cm X 5 cm); T2 (40cm X 10 cm), T3 (50cm X 5 cm), T4 (50cm X 10 cm), T5 (60cm X 5 cm), T6 (60cm X 10 cm)) were ranged in three blocs completely randomized with three replications. Data were sampled at the 8th, 10th, 12th, 14th, 16th, 18th, and the 21st weeks after germination by recording as parameters: plant height, ramifications number, plant water content, green and dry matters. All data were analyzed through SPSS at P<0.05 for significative difference. The results showed no significant difference among treatments for plant height but highlighted treatments T2 as the effective treatments in increasing plant growth especially in developing period. This treatment T2 also showed positively effects on ramifications number comparatively to others. Moreover, T2 treatment significantly improved plant water content, green matter and dry matter. This study suggested treatment T2 (40cm X 10 cm) as the effective treatment which could be used for improving stylosanthes production parameters and productivity as well in the Imbo region

    Empirical analysis of the external determinants of the budget deficit: Case of Morocco

    This work aims to examine the effect of external variables on the budget balance in Morocco using annual data for the period (1980-2016). The empirical results of the estimation of the VAR model show that the external variables have direct and indirect effects on the budget balance. A positive oil price shock does not have a significant influence on the budget balance in the short term. But, its indirect long-term effect is significant. Furthermore, a positive shock to the real effective exchange rate generates a widening budget deficit. The degree of trade openness has a positive effect on the fiscal balance in the short and long term

    Land use Change Detection of Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State Using Remote Sensing and GIS

    This research involved the integration of remote sensing techniques with a Geographic Information System (GIS) framework to get information on the area under study using PC-based image processing and analysis.  Landsat satellite imageries of Khana area was used and a Supervised Classification System (SCS) was adopted using ArcGIS 10.1 software.  Selected bands (7,5 and 3) were processed, training sites were selected to represent land-use classes and image classification was carried out.  A time change mapping and analysis was undertaken for the years 1987, 2000, and 2018.  The area in square kilometers of each land-use type in each year was calculated and thereafter, the change was determined by subtracting the area of the same land-use type in 1987 from 2018.  It was revealed that there was a high percentage of spatial expansion and reduction of some land-use types in the study area between these periods.  There was a steady decline of about 77% in the forested areas from 1987 all through 2000 to 2018 (-228km2).  Cultivated land reduced by 38.46% due to man’s anthropogenic activities (-80km2) and this greatly affected food security in the study area. Water bodies also decreased all through that period in the study area (-2km2).  The study area has been greatly affected by the extent of man’s activities, which have violently shoved away and altered the hydrological pattern as well as creating micro reliefs and changing the traditional land use pattern of forestry and farmland

    Voltage Mode Stability Control for Double Boost DC-DC Converter Using Digital PID Controller Based on FPGA

    The advanced boost DC-DC converter is used to overcome the low performance of boosting factors of traditional boost converter to get the stable and high output voltage from PV modules and other renewable sources. The application of Max-10 FPGA based PID controller development approach in double boost converter is presented to reduce system delay time and the output voltage ripples. This research is mainly focused on voltage-mode control in Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM) of the proposed converter. The proposed converter output under the PID controller is stable to manage the output voltage or to get the desired output voltage if the input voltage is changing. As the new finding result, if the two inductors' values of the proposed converter are the same, the switching frequency must be different and if the two inductors' values are different, the same switching frequency can be used for only this research. The same frequency of the two switches for two PWM modules is set 24 kHz to control the switch ON/OFF state in which the ripple voltage is about between 2.36% and 4.68%.

Due to usage and aging, different faults can appear which affect engine operation and managing.  Any small engine fault can turn into a major malfunction if it is not monitored and maintained at the proper time. Therefore, monitoring the performance of motors can save time and costs, improve their performance, and help them operate safely. Fault diagnosis, fault detection, and condition monitoring terms are used to describe similar concepts detection of any abnormality or deviation from the engines or machines normal condition.     Influence of PH, Immersion Time and Inhibitor Concentration on the Corrosion Inhibition Characteristic of Citrullus Lanatus Extract on A36 Carbon Steel in A CO2 Saline Solution

    The use of Watermelon Seed Extract was employed to monitor the corrosion process of A36 Carbon Steel using varying pH (3.15-8.0), Immersion Time (24hrs-120hrs) and Inhibitor Concentration (50-200ppm). A 3.5wt% Sodium Chloride solution was prepared by dissolving 3.5g of NaCl in deionised water. Carbon (IV) oxide gas was bubbled onto the saline solution with the corresponding Ph measured and recorded using a calibrated Ph Meter (HANNA). Varying concentration (50-200ppm) of the Inhibitor was introduced into the Solution. A36 Carbon Steel Coupon was immersed into the CO2 Saline solution of varying PH. Weight Loss and Inhibition Efficiency was employed to test the investigation. Scanning Electron Microscope Analysis on the surface morphology of the Carbon Steel Coupon with and without the Inhibitor was carried out to corroborate the findings

    Encouraging and Inhibiting Factors in the Tradition of Commemoration of the Birthday of the Prophet Muhammad SAW Community in Pidie District, Aceh Province of Indonesia

    The Aceh region is a province where the majority of the people are Muslim. Islam entered and developed in Aceh through preaching by Arab merchants. Islam is the majority religion for the people of Aceh, and since the founding of the Samudra Pasai kingdom, the second Islamic kingdom in Aceh has been marked by Islam as political power in Aceh. The variety of Islamic culture develops in society, one of which is the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. The Maulid Celebration in Kemukiman Bambi, Peukan Baro District, Pidie Regency has a different nuance to maulid celebrations in other regions. The implementation of Maulid starts from preparing meals and meals at people's homes, commonly called Bue Kulah (rice wrapped in leaves), Idang Meulapeuh (multilevel dishes) brought to Meunasah to be eaten together with residents, orphans and guests from other Mukim. Then it was continued with Meudikee Maulud (praying to the Prophet) and Islamic preaching at night. The purpose of this study is to describe the tradition of implementing the Prophet Muhammad's birthday in Pidie District in Aceh Province, to find out what factors encourage and hinder the tradition of commemorating the Prophet Muhammad's birthday in the community in Pidie District, and what symbols and meanings are contained in the commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad's birthday. SAW in the community in Pidie Regency. The research method is qualitative, the research sample is Tgk. Imum Mukim, ulama and adat, Gampong Geuchik and women leaders. Based on the results of the research, it can be explained that the tradition of carrying out the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad in Aceh and the Bambi Settlement has started since Islam developed in Aceh, the process of implementation is through community deliberations in determining the maulid. The implementation of the maulid consists of several stages, namely the preparation of Bue Kulah, Idang Meulapeeh, eating together, Meudikee, and Da'wah Islamiyah. The implementation of the maulid starts in the month from 12 Wednesdayul Awal to the beginning of Jumadil Akhir. The factors that encourage people to carry out the maulid are a form of gratitude, evidence of religious adherence, togetherness and the spirit of mutual cooperation. The occupational factors are economic factors, and differences of opinion in the celebration of the birthday. The symbol in this study is Bue Kulah (rice smoked with banana leaves and a cone shape). Idang Meulapeh is a dish arranged in a tray brought to Meunasah. The yellow ija (cloth color) symbolizes greatness

    Study of Seasonal Variation of Physicochemical Parameters of River Kaduna, Kaduna State Nigeria

    Background: The physiochemical parameters of a river tell much about its quality and suitability for both humans and thesurvival of the living biota within it. The discharge of untreated wastewater into the surface water bodies such as streams andrivers results in the pollution of such water environments. We aimed to determine the physicochemical parameters and alsodetermine the seasonal variation of the physicochemical parameters river Kaduna.Methodology: The research was carried out within four areas in Kaduna North, Kaduna state, Nigeria. Selected sampling sitesinclude; Gamji Park, Kabala Costain, Malali and Unguwar Rimi. Monthly sampling of the four sites was carried out from eachsampling site for a period of eight months covering both the dry and the rainy season between 6:00 am and 8:00 am every sampling day. The following parameters were determined using standard laboratory techniques; temperature, pH, turbidity, totaldissolved solids, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen, biological oxygen demand, water hardness, nitrate-nitrogen andphosphate-phosphorus. Data was analyzed using simple descriptive statistics to calculate the mean, standard error (SE) andstandard deviation of the parameters.Results: The mean water temperature was 23.6±0.90C with a standard deviation of 2.5, the highest temperature (25.7±0.60C)was recorded in the wet season. Mean pH was 7.9±0.1 with a standard deviation of 0.4, the wet and the dry season had the samemean values of 7.9±0.1. The mean turbidity was 60.3±4.6 with a standard deviation of 12.8, the wet season had the highest value(72.5±2.4 NTU). Mean TDS was 72.1±13.9 with a standard deviation of 38.9 and the highest TDS value of 92.7±22.9 mg/L was recorded in the dry season. The mean values of electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen and biological oxygen demand was135±27.7µs/cm, 2.6±0.1mg/L and1.3±0.1mg/L respectively whereas water hardness, nitrate-nitrogen and phosphate-phosphorushad means of 143.5±13.0 mg(CaCO3L-1, 0.3±0.0mg/L and 0.1±0.1mg/L respectively.Conclusion: physicochemical parameters were determined to be within the permissible level and wide seasonal variations wereseen among some parameters
