Review of Literature on Teaching and Learning Geometry and Measurement: A Case of Ghanaian Standards Based Mathematics Curriculum
This study aimed at providing a theoretical background for the development of the Geometry and Measurement Strands in the New Ghanaian Standards-Based Curriculum. As such it should be of aid to inform the supervisory committee of the GhanaEducation Service, National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), National Teacher Education Curriculum Framework (NTECF) and Ministry of Education, considering the Mathematics section of the current Ghana Curriculum Review project. This report concentrated on progressions in the two strands both within the area of higher-level thinking (what we will refer to as ‘pedagogy’) and within the area of content (‘knowledge’). While much has been written on the theoretical progressions, concerns showed that there is little to be found on progressions that could be of direct assistance to the facilitator (classroom teacher). The main emphasis of the theoretical writing on progressions in geometry tends to be on the increasing sophistication of overall ‘understanding’ of geometry (how do learners do geometry?); in contrast to the curriculum descriptions of geometry, it tends to focus much more on the content of knowledge/ability (what do learners do in geometry?). Findings also revealed that the ‘Count Me into Measurement program’ is the Learning Framework in Measurement, which aims to describe the stages learners progress through in developing an understanding of measurement. The Learning Framework describes three key stages: Identification of the attribute (direct comparison/partitioning/conservation); Informal measurement (counting units/relating number of units to quantity/comparison of measurements); and Unit structure (replicating a single unit/relating size of units to the number required). Learners are perceived as passing through the same three stages in their understanding of each of length, area, volume/capacity and mass, though not at the same time, as increasing the number of dimensions measured leads to the increasing complexity of the concep
Consumption of light products and prevalence of Obesity among a population of Academics in Casablanca, Morocco
Moroccan citizens are increasingly aware of the effect of food on their health. The objective of this work is to study the consumption of Light products (LP) by students, as well as their effects on the prevalence of obesity. A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in 2017 using an anonymous questionnaire. The latter included information related to Gender, age, anthropometric parameters, perception of the body image, as well as the consumption of BP (types, frequency, duration, reasons for consumption, etc.). The results were analyzed by SPSS software, version 21. 19.9% of respondents never consume light products, 59.2% consume them sometimes, 18.6% daily. This consumption varies according to Gender (p <0.05). 28.7% of students consume them to slim down; 30.3% think they are the best for good health and 12% like their good taste. 47.5% of the respondents consume LP in sugar and 30.3% the reduced in fat, with a significant difference between the two gender (p <0.05). Dairy products are the most consumed by participants (48.7%) among the fatty acids, while those for sugar, the most consumed are: confectionery (32.3%) and light drinks (23%). 61.66% of LP consumers have a normal weight (37.9% consume them sometimes and 23.76% daily); 29.66% are overweight (19% sometimes consume them and 10.6% daily) and 4.45% moderate obesity (2.9% sometimes and 1.5% daily). 60% of consumers of low fatty acids and 0.3% of consumers of low sugar have moderate obesity. Uncontrolled consumption of LP can increase the risk of overweight and obesity. However, these products can be consumed as part of a healthy diet and preferably in combination with a balanced and varied diet
K-Means Bootstrap Analysis in the Birth Weight Classification of the Born Babies
Low birth weight babies are caused by poor nutritional status before and during pregnancy. The impact of low birth weight is the slowing of the growth of infants seen in weight gain that does not reach normal levels when one-year-old. Classification of birth weight babies will be grouped into several groups, namely, low birth weight, normal baby weight, and excess baby weight. Classification of birth weight is done by cluster analysis. Cluster analysis is one of the statistical analyzes which aims to group objects based on the similarity of characteristics between those objects. Clusters of K-Means begin by determining in advance the number of clusters desired, so the measure of inaccuracy must be measured again. The inaccurate size of the K-Means cluster analysis can be done with the application of Clustering Bootstrap. This study aims to classify the birth weight of a baby using a cluster and a bootstrap cluster. The results showed a grouping of birthweight babies grouped into three clusters, cluster I had a baby's birth weight above 3130.171 kilograms, cluster II had a baby's weight under 3033.327 kilograms and cluster III had a baby's birth weight below 2299.994 kilograms. K-Means Bootstrap results produce relatively the same cluster. The best method is K-Means Bootstrap B = 75, with a total accuracy rate (TAR) of 0.7993 and a total error rate (TER) of 0.2007. K-Means Bootstrap can be used as an alternative way to determine the group of birth weight babies
Design of Cluster Bike - A 5 Person Peddling Social Bike
Consumption of energy and resource conservation are the major concerns in today’s world. There is also a greater emphasize for the usage of renewable energy sources. In this context, this work provides a way of a travelling group of people in a single-vehicle which is a peddle operated. In a Cluster Bike, 5 persons will be seated in a circular manner and all will simultaneously pedal to propel the bike forward. Steering is provided to one person who is in-facing with the vehicle movement direction. The braking control will be given to the same person who will be steering the bike. The mechanism for power transmission is a bevel gear system. A flexible drive system is included in the transmission to transfer power from five different shafts to a single shaft which is in turn linked to the rear wheels. The main intention of this project is to bring in people to interact with others while traveling. A cluster bike will be a good alternative for people who travel in groups and they just do not have use any other source of energy to do so. Thus this bike can be the best choice in an in-campus traveling where students in the universities or employees in the company can move around the campus in groups. A ride in a cluster bike is not only joyful but it is also a test of coordination between the riders. The vehicle is designed to provide an environmentally friendly bike and to make people associate with others in a free while even in a busy routine
Breeding Advancement for Yield and Yield Related Traits of Desi Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L) Varieties in Ethiopia
Thirteen desi chickpea varieties released since 1974 were evaluated in the 2017 cropping season at Jari location. The varieties were laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. The analysis of variance revealed highly significant differences among tested varieties for all traits except plant height revealing that the varieties tested were highly variable. The average rate of increase in grain yield per year over the past 42 years period was 30.68 kg ha-1yr-1 with a relative genetic gain of 0.73% year-1, which was a significant increase for the last four decades of desi chickpea improvement. The regression of a hundred seed weight against the years of release showed not significantly different from zero. It showed an annual rate of genetic gain of 0.85 g yr-1 with a relative annual genetic gain of 0.23%. The number of pods per plant and number of seeds per pod revealed a non-significant decreasing trend over the past 42 years. Plant height, days to flowering, and days to maturity showed a non-significant trend in the current study. Grain yield showed a non-significant positive association with plant height, days to maturity and a hundred seed weight and non-significant negative association with days to flowering, the number of seed per pod, and the number of pods per plant. The study also showed that varieties developed through hybridization and selection from introduction had higher progress than old varieties and selection from landraces. Therefore, it is more likely that the productivity of desi chickpea in the future can also be increased by developing varieties using similar approaches by combining modern breeding tools
The Effect of the Pressure and the Density on the Air Fuel Ratio for Thermal Power Plant
The control of the air-fuel ratio (AFR) is critical for the efficiency of the combustion. This is for achieving the better performance of the plant and result in high output energy. Different parameters influence AFR. This paper models the AFR as a function of the inlet temperature, density, and pressure. Formulated models have been checked using recorded data from the site. The results show that the AFR increases by 1.5 units as the pressures of the gas increase by 0.6 bars but when it reaches 2.9 bar, AFR starts to decrease, 0.9% of the increase of the density leads to the decrease of the AFR of 0.4 in average. 3.5oC rise of inlet temperature lift the AFR by 0.2; however, it starts to decrease when the temperature reaches 78oC
Analysis of the Influence of Incentives, Infrastructure, and Work Environment on Teacher Performance at Dhira Bhakti Foundation Malang, Indonesia
This study aims to describe incentives, work environment infrastructure, and teacher performance, analyze incentives, infrastructure, and work environment simultaneously affect teacher performance, analyze incentives, infrastructure, and work environment partially affect teacher performance, and analyze among variables. incentives, infrastructure, and work environment that have a dominant effect on teacher performance at the Dhira Bhakti Foundation Malang. The number of samples in this study was 88 respondents. The data analysis technique used multiple regression analysis. The results of the analysis show that incentives, infrastructure, and work environment simultaneously have a significant effect on teacher performance, which means that to improve teacher performance it is necessary to provide fair incentives, adequate and functioning infrastructure when needed, and a good work environment. Incentives, infrastructure, and work environment partially have a significant effect on teacher performance, which means that the better incentives for teachers can improve teacher performance. The more complete the infrastructure needed in the learning process can improve teacher performance. Better working environment conditions can improve teacher performance. Infrastructure has a dominant effect on teacher performance, this shows that the main thing that can improve teacher performance is infrastructure. The Effect of Organizational Commitment and Employee Engagement towards Employee Performance through Organization Citizenship Behaviors
This study aims to examine the relationship between variables consisting of organizational Commitment, employee engagement, Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB), and Employee Performance. The mediating role of Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) explains to analyze the results directly or indirectly. Methodology - Research respondents are permanent employees of Bank Sulut Go in the Java area. A total of 73 respondents sampled in this study. The analysis technique is descriptive and linear regression for confirmation on a structural equation model built by the researcher and path analysis. The quantitative approach was chosen to explain the influence between research variables. Data collection using online questionnaires. Research Findings - The results show that organizational commitment and employee engagement with employee performance through mediation Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) have a significant effect. Then Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) on employee performance also has a significant effect. The organizational commitment to employee performance and employee engagement to employee performance has no significant effect. At the same time, organizational commitment to employee performance and employee engagement with employee performance has a significant effect. Originality - Research makes organizational commitment variable on employee performance and does not significantly influence the originality of this study. Several previous researchers who tested organizational commitment variables on employee performance showed a significant effect, so the research results have differences that complement theories for future research
Social Behavior In Religious Moderation: Study of Social Reality of Communities in Tohpati and Taliwang in Cakranegara Utara Village, Cakranegara District, Indonesia
Purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between social behavior and religious conditions among adherents of each religion. become a factor in religious moderation which has the potential for internal conflict, an atmosphere for creating social integration and reciprocal relations among the community, hopefully it will not happen again. The formulations of the problem are: 1). What is the social behavior in religious moderation in Tohpati and Taliwang, Cakranegara Utara sub-district, Mataram city? 2). What are the driving and inhibiting factors for religious moderation? The research method used in this dissertation is a qualitative descriptive method with a phenomenological approach. To support the method and build research findings in this dissertation, researchers used several supporting theories, namely: conflict theory, social theory, social behavior theory, peace architecture theory, and social change theory. Based on the findings of social behavior in social reality means living in peace, harmony and tolerance. Religious harmony is a condition in which religious communities can accept each other, respect each other's beliefs, help each other help, and work together in achieving common goals. In the context of reality, religious harmony means togetherness between religious communities and the government in order to build an attitude of mutual giving and receiving between religious communities. Several driving factors influence the wave of relations in the Cakranegara Utara village, Mataram City. Religious moderation behavior may not function if the presence of security forces is not functioning, this is due to inhibiting factors that occur as a tug-of-war of problems that cannot be resolved. To strengthen religious moderation as the foundation of religious perspectives, attitudes, and practices, the middle way is to strengthen tolerance, social harmony and harmony, on the basis of the values of justice, resentment and balance, which are in line with the principles of social behavior in religious moderation. Finally, the researcher recommends that there is a need to socialize with each religion about how social behavior as a reality in religious moderation immediately carries out intensive dialogue, and to empower the communication forum for existing propaganda religions.
Reduction of Harmful Emissions from Domestic Power Generator Usage in Nigeria - A Tribological Approach
Worldwide concern for the release of harmful emission from Internal Combustion (IC) engines requires the optimization of the quantity of fuel used, types of fuel blend used and type of lubrication utilized. In Nigeria, the electrical power requirements of many households rely more on alternative sources such as Solar systems and fossil fuel-powered generators. The use of these generators is known to produce exhaust fumes that are harmful to humans and the environment. This study investigated the effect of using two different commercially available lubricating oils for gasoline-fueled power generators for domestic applications in comparison to used oils. These are SAE 40 and SAE 20W50. The effect of Boron additive on the two oil brands and used oils (or aged oils) at different speeds on emission from the exhaust stream from the generator was investigated. This is to provide a better understanding of the behavior of Boron additive with SAE 40, SAE 20W50, and aged oils. The study also compared results of torque and emission measurements from oils containing boron to oils without the Boron additives at different speeds. The instruments used to carry out the measurement are a digital tachometer, torque meter (contact type), and 5-gas exhaust analyzer. Results from this study indicated a general decrease in torque with increased speed for all the lubricating oils. This is in agreement with the results of similar studies on torque outputs from IC engines with increasing speeds. However, oils lubricated with Boron additives minimized this loss at a different speed more in SAE 20W50, SAE 40 than in used oils. Carbon monoxide emission from these results indicated that generators lubricated by aged oils are highest at all speed ranges irrespective of Boron additive inclusion. Cleanliness from a gasoline-powered generator is possible if Boron additive is added to lubricating oils. The concentration of NOx emission was found to rise considerably only when operated at the highest speed for aged oils. The results of this study indicated that tribofilms formed by boron-containing oils played a role in preventing torque reduction or power loss and CO emissions from power generators for domestic use. This behavior was attributed to the friction-reducing boric acid and wear resistance borate glass contained within the trilayer. However, tribofilms formed by used oils on tribological parts of the engine gave poor torque reduction results in comparison to that provided by fresh oils. This indicated that when lubricating oils in power generators used in homes are aged beyond the recommended interval for replacement, substantial power loss and harmful emissions are released to the surroundings
