    Efficiency of Banzai Biostimulant on the cherries production in healthy and cocoa trees affected by swollen shoot virus: A case study at Petit-Bondoukou Côte d'Ivoire

    The present study is to evaluate the efficiency of the Biostimulant "Banzai" on the production of cherries from healthy anddiseased trees in a context of pressure from Swollen shoot cocoa disease in Petit-Bondoukou in the department of Soubré. Thespecific aim is to compare the effect of the single and double doses of Banzai on the production of cherries from healthy anddiseased trees. The experimental design consists of a single block of four plots marked T0 (Control), T1 (a standard rate Banzaiapplication without fertilizer), T2 (a double rate Banzai application without fertilizer) and T3 (a standard rate Banzai applicationwith fertilizer). Each plot contains ten healthy trees and ten trees with swollen shoot disease. This device was repeated four timesat the study site. Banzai was applied for four months and observations were made for six consecutive months on the number ofcherries produced. The results of the Kruskal-Wallis test showed that the treated plots produced significantly more cherries thanthe control plots in both healthy and diseased trees at any dose. In addition, in healthy trees, the Kruskal-Wallis test showed thatthe single dose of Banzai without fertilizer (T1) significantly produced more cherries than other treatments. While in diseasedtrees, the Kruskal-Wallis test showed that the double dose of Banzai without fertilizer (T2) significantly produced more cherriesthan other treatments

    Development of a Solar Dryer Incorporated with a Thermal Storage Mechanism

    This work presents the development and performance evaluation of a solar crop dryer for drying agricultural products. The dryer consists of three major parts; the drying chamber (630 mm by 610 mm by 210 mm), a solar collector (630 mm by 590 mm by 50 mm) and a heat storage device (630 mm by 590 mm by 50 mm). The dryer was designed for crops weighing a maximum of 15 kg with an ambient temperature of 33oC. The performance evaluation was carried out using unripe plantain and okra. The results of the performance evaluation for no-load test showed that the average temperatures for the drying chamber, collector and ambient without the heat storage system and the boaster mirror were recorded as 47, 69 and 32oC respectively and 55.5, 71.5 and 32oC with heat storage, while 73oC, 83.5oC, 32oC respectively with both the heat storage and boaster mirror. The boaster mirror introduction recorded a higher temperature of 73oC in the drying chamber as against 55.5oC when it was not installed. The results of the on-load test shows that the rate of moisture removal was faster in the dryer (1 to 0.24) kg after drying for four days fro plantain and (1 to 0.21) kg after drying for three days for okra as against (1 to 0.35) kg for plantain and (1 to 0.49) kg for okra with direct/open sun drying. The products were evaluated for physicochemical properties for the fresh, solar dryer dried and open sun-dried samples and results shows that solar-dried plantain and okra recorded higher percentage of nutrients over open sun-dried samples in Fibre, protein, ash content (1.89, 1.17, 0.39), (1.63, 1.14, 1.53) respectively, while the percentage of fat content was significantly higher in sun-dried samples with plantain having (0.32%) and okra (0.1%) as against solar-dried samples

    Evaluation of Microbial Degradation of Crude Oil in a Polluted Tropical Soil

    This research is aimed at determining the growth and capacity of microorganisms to degrade crude oil following biostimulationwith NPK fertilizer and sawdust amendment. The contaminated soil was treated simultaneously with the nutrient amendment in treatments A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H and I and the population of microorganisms involved in the degradation of TPH monitored.Optimum conditions for effective degradation of the contaminant were determined and the kinetics of the process evaluated. Physicochemical and biological parameters like soil pH, texture, total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH), total nitrogen, totalphosphorus, hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria (HDB), and hydrocarbon-degrading fungi (HDF) in the native, control and treatedsoils were analyzed using standard analytical method and procedures. The HDB/HDF population measured for TPH degradationat intervals established the efficiency and kinetics of the bioremediation process. However, HDB growth rate in the treatmentswere between 0.1840 and 0.1931. The utilization of nitrogen and phosphorus by microorganisms was between 81.5% and 92.8%.TPH degradation in the treatments was between 98.14% and 99.05% and degradation rates between -0.0419 day-1 and -0.0479day-1. However, optimum treatment was achieved in 105 days with an efficiency of 99.05% in the first-order kinetics at degradation constant of -0.0479 day-1, degradation half-life of 14.47 days, the microbial growth rate of 0.1921 day-1, and biomass doubling time; 3.61 days. Arousal of the population of indigenous microorganisms at the study site through the application of nutrients and a permeable medium resulted in massive biotransformation of the pollutants to non-toxic environmentally friendly forms

    Fault Detection and Isolation of a Three-tank System Using Analytical Temporal Redundancy – Parity Space/Relation Based Residual Generation

    This paper investigates the fault detection and isolation technique in measurement datasets from a three-tank system using analytical model-based temporal redundancy. It is based on residual generation using a parity equations/space approach. Thepaper further briefly outlines other approaches of model-based residual generation. The basic idea of parity space residual neration in temporal redundancy is a dynamic relationship between sensor outputs and actuator inputs (input-output model).These residuals were then used to detect whether or not the system is faulty and indicate the location of the fault when it is faulty.The method obtains good results by detecting and isolating faults from the considered measurement datasets generated from the system

    Contemporary Factors Determining the Choice of Supermarket Patronage in Ado-Ekiti Metropolis of Nigeria

    This study examined the contemporary factors (quality, price, assurance and distance) determining the choice of supermarkets inAdo-Ekiti Metropolis. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study constituted thewalk-in customers of the selected supermarkets in Ado-Ekiti metropolis. The sample size was 200customers using random sampling. Primary data used for the study were gathered through a structured questionnaire. Data gathered were analyzed usingmultiple regression. The result showed that product quality positively affects customer patronage; furthermore, the result showedthat product price positively affects customer patronage; more so, the result showed that assurance positively affects customerpatronage and finally, distance does not significantly affect customer patronage all at 0.05 level of significance. Thus, the studyconcluded, that product quality, product price and assurance statistically and significantly affects customer patronage amongsupermarkets in Ado-Ekiti Metropolis

    The practice of defending assets from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, perusal, inspection, recording or destruction is as ancient as man’s existence on earth. Cybersecurity, information security, and computer security arefurther attempts of man to continue the same ancient practice. This is due to the unavoidably prevalent need and use of information and communication technologies in this century, which has left the man with such vulnerability and insecuritythrough its devices and infrastructures. The aviation industry, being one of the most economic and leisure viable industry in theworld has been at the top-notch of the use of these technologies for better services to man. Nigeria Aviation industry is one of thelargest and most viable in Africa is opened to the vulnerabilities and cyber threats that comes with these advanced technologies.However, several methods and programs have been employed by various organizations and stakeholders, but, the Nigerian CivilAviation Authority (NCAA), been the apex governing body that control, monitor and regulate the economic and safety oversight ofthe entire Aviation industry in Nigeria seems not to have gotten it right with the recent trends of cyber warfare in the industry asopposed to their counterparts in the world over. Therefore, this research study attempts to employ data from existing literatureand questionnaires to analyze the existing practices of cyber/information security programs (if any) within the NCAA and todesign an adaptable cybersecurity framework that is robust enough for its safety. By using version 3.9.3 of Waikato Environmentfor Knowledge Analysis (WEKA) software, Naïve Bayes, Bayes Net, Decision Table, IBK (Linear NNSearch), REP Tree, J48, SMO, Simple Logistic, and Bagging are the nine algorithms employed to determine and predict tier classes as existing profile and target profile respectively for NCAA within the framework. SMO emerge best fit to predict the target profile while the Bagging algorithm emerges best fit to determine the current profile. Gaps and implementable action plans were deduced. Thereafter, the RNA Cyber Security Framework (RNA-CSF) is conceptually developed, analyzed and proposed for NCAA and for any other organization that has the need to use it

    Android App for Improvising Sign Language Communication in English and Hausa

    Deaf and dumb persons are facing great challenges communicating with people in society despite the fact that they are part of the society and are enrolled in the normal school system where teaching and learning take place using spoken language. Thischallenge calls for the need to address the problem of communication through the use of mobile technology. Developing a mobile app to enhance learning and communication is of great importance and thus the focus of this paper. Obviously most of the applications available were developed using foreign languages which is not easy to use. In this paper, we introduce the SimpleSign Language Translator Application (SSLATA) that will help people to learn and master sign language. The introduced application will translate words from sign language to English or Hausa languages, text to speech to sign, speech to text to signand vice-visa. The SSLATA through its user-friendly interface will enable users to interact with one another via either spokenlanguage or sign language. Constructive research approach and an agile model were adopted for the study. Android Studio, SQLite and Java were the environment and language used in developing the app. The application runs on android operating system devices
