Study of Soil Management for Cassava Production in Isoko, Delta State Nigeria
This research work examined soil management for cassava production in Isoko, Delta State, Nigeria. The study adopted an exclusive field survey method. This involved the collection of soil samples in-situ for laboratory analysis. The study area was grouped into four zones based on close boundary villages. Major soil physicochemical parameters needed for cassava production were the main crust of the scientific investigation. They include NPK and soil pH. Results obtained from laboratory analysis, data were compared with minimum benchmark standards and threshold using FAO standards of land evaluation for cassava production. Results obtained from the soil analysis showed that Nitrogen is deficient in the soil with the value of (0.0325%) against the backdrop of FAO threshold standard of (1.5231%). Potassium was also found to be deficient in the soil with a mean value of 0.2895 cmol/kg which is below the FAO required threshold standard of 1.6350 cmo/kg needed for effective production of the yield of tubers. Phosphorous though present in fairly adequate quantity, with a mean value of 2.4250 cmol/kg compared with FAO threshold of 3.1252 cmol/kg, its effective utilization may be highly impaired as a result of Nitrogen deficiency. Soil pH of 5.90 falls within the range of slightly acidic soil against the required standard of 7.0 which is considered natural. To test the hypotheses, postulated for the study, the ANOVA statistical tool was used to ascertain if a significant difference exists in the soil nutrient across the various zones. Based on the decision rule for f-ratio, the (F-cal) is 0.079 while the table value is 4.07 at 0.05sig. The implication is that there is a significant difference between the required standard and the observed. The study thus confirmed that the soils of the study area are deficient in vital soil nutrients required for cassava production. Nutrient deficiency is, therefore, a major constraint to cassava production in the area. Strategies to ameliorate the soil constraints were also advanced
Facility Readiness for Childhood Routine Immunization Services in Primary Healthcare Centres in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria
Background and objective of study: immunization remains an essential strategy for reducing mortalities and morbidities due to vaccine preventable diseases. Immunization service delivery is dependent on planning of immunization sessions, and Supervision of the immunization process as this is very important in order to achieve immunization coverage target.Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross sectional study was utilised. This was done using an observational check list guide which was developed by the researcher and utilised for assessment of facility readiness for routine immunization service delivery. It was used to assess the facilities, amenities and logistics utilised in the immunization services process and also the functionality of the amenities. It was utilised in 35 Primary health care centres in the 3 Local Government Areas.Results: Thirty two (91.4%) had sufficient staff offering immunization and 22 (62.9%) had sufficient seats for clients. All the facilities had supervisory visits by the government. Thirty three (94.3%) had health talks before immunization and 25 (71.4%) had an alternate functional source of power supply readily availableConclusion: Only 3 of the PHCs were ready for routine immunization service delivery while 32 were partially ready for immunizatio
Secure Door Control System using RFID Card
The proposed system is an automatic identification and authentication system which can be deployed at the doors of the building to authenticate authorized people. The keypad requires that a person desiring to gain access enter a correct code number. Where access control keypads are used in place of card readers, only a correct code is required to allow entry. This system is also known as the barcode system. So Door Security System is necessary for every home, office, campus and buildings. In this system, a door lock can be controlled by an RFID card. Radiofrequency identification (RFID) is a wireless technology that can be used to develop the access control system. It will be the intent to expand and implement an electronic system that will allow campus police/ administration to automatically secure access to building rooms in buildings across all campus locations in case of emergency and to have views into areas when emergencies may occur while helping to alleviate placing anyone in harm’s way. This approach not only reduces the cost but also enhances the reliability and ease of maintenance of the authentication system
The Association of Physical Activity and Diet with Metabolic Syndrome among University Students in Kenya
The occurrence of these lifestyle related practices and dietary habits at early age has been shown to increase the predisposition towards metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome refers to disorders occurring together resulting in an increase in the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Prevalence rate was established at 1.9% indicative of occurrence of predisposing risks of metabolic syndrome in university students. A cross-sectional, quantitative research design was used. 323 participants were sampled from a population of 40,000 students with stratification according to the various school sizes. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data. 61.3% of the respondents did not exercise regularly, 72.3% snacked frequently, 60.6% of the subjects that were not diagnosed with metabolic syndrome were fit, 37.2% needed to work on their fitness while only 2.2% were out of shape. The relationship between sedentary lifestyle as a risk factor and metabolic syndrome was statistically significant, as was the relationship between dietary habits and metabolic syndrome. The study established that 85.4% of the subjects were not sure of the amount of calories they consumed in a day and 13.9% of the subjects reported they had weight issues that affected their academics. Modifications in lifestyle habits, physical activity and dietary composition can result in a positive impact on metabolic syndrome and its progression. A mandatory extra co-curricular program requiring students to participate in exercise and sports activities should be enforced to positively engage university students. Vulnerable groups such as the pre-hypertensive and obese should also be closely monitored
The Effect of Principal Leadership, Teacher Performance and Learning Facilities on Student Achievement in SMPN 1 Kepanjen Malang, Indonesia
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of school principal leadership, teacher performance and learning facilitieson student achievement in SMP Negeri 1 Kepanjen. The design of this research is causality design with a quantitative approach.The population and sample in this study were all teachers of SMP Negeri 1 Kepanjen, amounting to 50 people with the data collection techniques in the form of questionnaires and documentation of data. The technique of data analysis used in this study is multiple linear regression analysis techniques. The results of this study indicate that learning facilities have no effect on studentachievement, leadership and teaching performance. Headmaster Significantly influences student achievement, and teacherperformance has a dominant influence on student achievement
Performance Investigation of Evacuated Tube Collector using Different Nano fluids Applied to Winter Climatic Conditions in Egypt
In this paper, the performance of the evacuated tube solar collector is investigated theoretically by the TRNSYS program. The simulation is conducted during the winter of 14th February-2019 in Cairo – Egypt. In this simulation, water and Nanofluids areworking fluids. The types of Nanofluids are CeO2/water, WO3/water and AL2O3/water. The simulation is conducted at0.015%,0.025%, 0.035% and 0.045% (volume concentrations).The mass flux rate and tilt angle are 0.017 kg/s.m2and 45o; respectively.The results show that the collector has the highest performance using nanofluids at studied concentrations. At 12:00 PM, thehighest useful energy gain can be obtained from CeO2/water Nanofluid at 0.045% concentration, while thermal efficiency ishigher by 34.2% than water. The nanofluidWO3/water presents low performance than that of CeO2/water and AL2O3/water. The thermal efficiencies ofAL2O3/ water and WO3/ water Nanofluids are higher than water by 28.4% and 12.5%; respectively, atconcentration of 0.045% and 12:00P
Determining of Environmental Laboratory Locations Using Analytical Hierarchy Process Method in West Java Province
The province of West Java is one of the largest industrial areas in Indonesia. But there are threats that could disrupt industrial activity in West Java, one of the threats to environmental quality. An important factor influencing the effectiveness and efficiencyof environmental management in the area is whether or not a laboratory exists. UP Ltd. is an environmental laboratory servicescompany established since 1990 and located in South Jakarta. Looking at the state of West Java, the company is interested indeveloping its business by opening a branch in West Java Province. Opening a new branch location or location factor is animportant factor. Therefore, this study is a study of branch office location using Analytical Hierarchy Process method approachas a decision support system to determine alternative locations according to the criteria and sub-criteria set by the company.Data processing result using AHP that Location 03 has the biggest weight with a value of 0,53840. Location 02's second orderwith a value of 0,25719, and an alternative location who has the lowest weight Location 01 value of 0,20103
Investigating the Performance of Ghana’s Locally Produced Alcohol (Akpeteshie) in Stripping Gold-Loaded Carbon
Gold adsorbed unto activated carbon is recovered downstream via various stripping techniques paramount among which are the Zadra elution method and the Anglo American Research Laboratory (AARL) method before final gold recovery by electrowinning. These conventional stripping systems require a relatively higher temperature and longer elution hours. These are effective but the relatively longer extraction times that accompany them have been a major concern over the years. This has encouraged diverse research operations to ascertain an alternative method of elution that would render the process more economical. One research finding that has been very successful in reducing the extraction time significantly is alcohol stripping. Laboratory produced ethanol, methanol, isopropanol, and ethylene glycol have all proven to be effective in stripping gold from loaded carbon at elevated temperatures. One main hindrance to the usage of this method at the commercial scale is the relatively higher cost of ethanol among other operational and environmental challenges. This work investigates the performance of Ghana’s locally produced alcohol (akpeteshie) in stripping of gold from gold-loaded carbon at lower temperatures with the aim of finding an alternative method for gold stripping which might be cheaper than conventional systems. Cost analysis conducted revealed that akpeteshie is relatively cheaper than laboratory-produced ethanol. This was one of the key motivations of the research work. A range of different strip solutions were used (hydro-ethanol, caustic solution and lastly caustic and ethanol mixture). The experimental work was carried out at the laboratory scale, using gold-loaded carbon at room temperature and at 60 and 70 °C temperatures respectively and up to 8 h extraction time. Hydro-ethanol was the most rapid eluant with 66% Au eluted after 8 h at 70 °C, followed by the ethanol and caustic mixture which yielded 42% extraction after 8 h. Caustic was the least effective with 8 h required for a 20% extraction yield. Interestingly, 92% Au extraction was obtained at 70 °C when hydro-ethanol was used as an eluant to strip fine carbon
BASELINE RADIATION IN GOLD MINING AREAIN ERINMO OSUN STATE, NIGERIA.
oai:ojs2.ijagri.org:article/2The mining of gold facilitates the release of radioactive minerals from the host rock into the environment and the gold miners would be exposed to gamma radiation due to radionuclide contaminants associated with the gold. Twenty samples of soil were collected from different illegal gold mining locations in Erinmo in Osun State of Nigeria and were counted using the high purity germanium detector. The radionuclide’s identified in all the samples with reliable regularity are 238U ,232Th and 40K. The 238U concentrations in soil range from 9.01 ± 1.7 – 35.4 ± 3.7 BqKg-1 with an average of 21.9 ± 2.1 BqKg-1 . The mean specific activitiesfor 232Th range from 10.9 ± 2.8 – 37.5 ± 4.6 BqKg-1 with an average of 23.4 ± 2.9 BqKg-1 and the mean specific activities for 40K in soil ranged from 99.0 ± 12.3 – 182.8 ± 18.5 BqKg-1 with a mean of 136.5 ± 18.2 BqKg-1 . The uranium and thorium specific activities fall within the earth crustal mean for normal environmental, hence no uranium or thorium deposit could be said to be in Erinmo. The total absorbed dose rate in air for Erinmo in Osun State ranged between 15.4 nGyh-1 and 47.2 nGyh-1 with an average of 30.7nGyh-1 . The average value of the absorbed dose rate obtained in this work represents 55.8% of the world average of value of 55.0 nGyh-1 . The external hazard indices are in the range of 0.10 to 0.29 with an average of 0.19. The annual effective doses are in the range of 0.019 mSvy-1 to 0.058 mSvy-1 with an average value of 0.038 mSvy-1 which is lower compared with the world average value of 0.07 mSvy-1
Analysis of the Effect of Current Ratio, Cooperative Size, Debt to Equity Ratio and Number of Members on Return On Assets At Primkop Kartika Puskop Line Kartika Bhirawa Anoraga, Indonesia
This study aims: 1) to determine the factors that influence the Remaining Operating Results (SHU) on Primkop Kartika KBA Puskop Line, 2) to Analyze the Effect of Current Ratio, Cooperative Size, Debt To Equity Ratio And Number of Members Against Return On Assets in Primkop Kartika KBA Puskop Line ranks 3) to test and analyze variables that have a significant influence between Current Ratio, Cooperative Size, Debt To Equity Ratio and Number of Members in Primkop Kartika KBA Puskop Line ranks. The data taken in this study are data from Primkop Kartika financial reports in the KBA Puskop Board of the 2015-2018 period. The method used is the time series method. For the formulation of the problem, objectives and research hypotheses, the analysis used is the model specification test, multiple linear regression analysis, t-test, and F test. The results showed that 1) the factors that influence Return on Assets in Primkop Kartika KBA Puskop Board of Staff are Cooperative Size and Number of Members, 2) Current Ratio, Cooperative Size, Debt To Equity Ratio And Number of Members influential together to increase SHU Primkop Kartika KBA Puskop Line ranks, and 3) among Current Ratio, Cooperative Size, Debt To Equity Ratio and Number of Members that have a significant influence on increasing SHU Primkop Kartika KBA Puskop Line ranks are Cooperative Size and Number of Members
