Intergroup Cohesion and Its Effects on Employees Performance in Schools in Nairobi City County, Kenya
Most organizations have been reporting their inability to achieve the set objectives. Several factors have been pointed out to be the major cause. Apart from other external factors such as adequate finance, political goodwill and conducive environment, there seem to be other factors related to the intergroup cohesion that affect goal achievement. This study was done in schools in Lang’ata Sub County and it sought to establish the intergroup cohesion on employee performance in public schools in Lang’ata Sub County. The study had three objectives, to access how intergroup cohesion affects members’ commitment during performance of duties, to examine the effects of intergroup cohesion on task performance and to evaluate various effects of training on employee performance.
It focused on employees who were be selected purposefully. After the study, it was found that intergroup cohesion and its aspects like training, commitment and workload affect employee performance. This implies that intergroup has a lot of effects when it comes to employee’s performance and that there is need to improve the team cohesion if we were to enjoy the benefits of teamwork. The study recommends that; there is need for institutions to have a strategic plan to enable it work towards a certain goal while committing themselves in work. This will help employees to remain focused to a certain goal and remain committed into realizing that goal or objective, there is need for institutions to have a well laid program that guides on how tasks should be administered to each group in an organization and need for institutions to take into consideration the new trends in job performance and bring in resource persons who will help train the members for better productivity. Finally, that there is need for institutions to have an elaborate plan which will work towards improving cohesion if maximum performance is to be realized
The Role of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Carrying Out Supervision : Social Reality Study on the Role of DPRK in Carrying out Infrastructure Supervision in Aceh Besar District, Indonesia
The real condition of Kuala Gigieng is a fact in the field, the role of supervision of the DPRK needs to be carried out in order to carry out its duties, authorities, and rights effectively as a legislative institution. The role of supervision is highly dependent on the level of ability of DPRK members of Aceh Besar Regency, so one of the efforts made can be identified with efforts to improve the quality of legislative members as measured by the quality of supervision of the Aceh Besar Regency DPRK. This study aims to describe and analyze To analyze and describe the role of the Aceh Besar District DPRK in terms of monitoring the infrastructure development of the Lambada Lhok TPI, Baitussalam District. To analyze and describe the inhibiting and supporting factors in the supervision of infrastructure development and the role of TPI Lambada Lhok, Baitussalam District. This research use descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and relevant documents. Data analysis was made using an interactive process (Milles and Huberman) with stages, namely data collection, data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing and verification to explain the concept of the peusijuk tradition, and communication media. The results of this study indicate that the role of the DPRD Secretariat Staff so far is very large, in carrying out their main duties and functions appropriately. In their duties and functions, the DPRD Secretariat staff always coordinates with their superiors so that the work can run well. Supervision of the infrastructure for the construction of TPI Lambada Lhok, Baitussalam District, is carried out by measuring the results of the work by the volume of work and costs. Comparing work results with standards with specifications, costs and consulting. Correcting deviations with improvements in the field follow-up has not been in accordance with internal supporters, especially the DPRK's determination that it does not reflect the program that was initiated. External support, especially community support, NGO support, and district government support when there is a reward for wanting to move. Feng Shui: A Comprehensive Review of its Effectiveness Based on Evaluation Studies
After five decades of its presence in the Western European space, the architectural profession, regardless of the popularity of feng shui, has never systematically declared itself about this phenomenon. This is a professional problem. It is equally absurd to dismiss feng shui as a bunch of superstitious nonsense without properly scientifically researching it, as well as its detailed study following all Western science standards, without asking, at least once, whether the Fengshui recommendations have the effect they promise, and if so, which and why. To answer this question an in-depth analysis of scientific articles on feng shui was performed.
Evaluation studies found were divided into three groups: comparative studies where the effectiveness of fengshui's recommendations is not directly verified by field research, but compared with findings in other areas of science; field experimental studies that examine the actual effectiveness of selected feng shui recommendations, through a real or virtual environment, engaging participants and sometimes a control protocol and studies of living quality evaluation systems with feng shui recommendations. Based on the results of the studies analysed it can be concluded, that between the feng shui school of form, environmental psychology and sustainable design principles there are certain similarities, which some researchers confirm with a higher or a lower degree of correlation and statistical significance. On the other side, one of the fundamental concepts of feng shui, namely the concept of life energy qi, remains poorly researched. The conclusion is, that the greatest potential of feng shui for contemporary architecture is not so much in the practical application of its techniques and recommendations, as much of this is already included in everyday design practice, but in its philosophical and conceptual foundations. They can encourage architects to re-think spatial concepts and, if necessary, to change established spatial paradigms
A Scientometric analysis of landslides research in the western branch of East African Rift (DR Congo)
The Albertine Rift, which is part of the East African Rift, is a region prone to repetitive slope instability due to its intense rainfall, high weathering rate, and consistent seismic activities. Although this has led to several publications about landslides in the past. Unfortunately, not many attempts at gathering systematic data on landslide research in the western Albertine rift have been made so far. This study analyses the research carried out in landslides in the Albertine rift during 2003-2019 on several parameters including the title, authors, institutions, publication year, keywords, the names of journals publishing the articles, and language. The majority of papers were written in French (62%). Geo-Eco-Trop journal has published the greatest number of papers (46%). The majority of authors (67%) produced only one paper. Moreover, Moeyersons had the highest co-authorship connections (15), followed by Dille, Trefois, and Nobil with 14, 10, and 7 connections respectively. 13 institutions from 6 countries contributed to the researches. The most producing institutions were Royal Museum for Central Africa, followed by the “Université Officielle de Bukavu”. 49 Keywords were used, among which, 43 (88%) appeared only once and 6 (12%) appeared twice. Study of Temporal Analysis on Earthquake Data and Statistical Seismology of Nepal
An earthquake is the greatest terrifying natural disaster that can do significant damages. A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Barpak, which is located about 81 kilometers northwest of Kathmandu killing thousands and affecting millions of citizens on 25th April 2015. This is the most powerful disaster to strike Nepal since an earthquake in 1934. The aim of this paper is to study temporal analysis on earthquake data of Nepal and to provide some new analytical insights on the importance of statistical seismology. The data of aftershock occurrence followed by the most catastrophic natural disaster were studied using earthquake catalogue produced by the National seismological center Nepal and the United States geological survey. The catalog covers the time span from 1994 to 2015 and includes about 821 earthquakes having magnitude (ML) four or greater. Descriptive statistics are used to describe the basic features of the earthquake data for 22 years using Excel. The frequency-magnitude distribution of earthquakes has been analyzed in view of its application in seismic pattern study. The relationship between a number of events, time, magnitude, depth, latitude and longitude were studied and interpreted. People want to know the prediction of an earthquake but neither physical nor statistical models are sufficient for predictions and other analyses of a seismic pattern. The development of effective procedures and models for this issue may well require a fusion of statistical and physical ideas in ways, which differ radically from standard practice in either field
Study of Utilization of Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response Data in Controlling Infectious Diseases among Public Health Facilities in Kiambu County, Kenya
Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response entails data collection, analysis, interpretation, and feedback on communicable and non-communicable diseases. It enables health workers to detect and respond to these diseases. Poor utilization of disease surveillance and response data was identified as a core factor responsible for increasing mortality and morbidity due to infectious diseases in developing countries like Kenya. This study assessed utilization of Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response data in control of infectious diseases among Public health facilities in Kiambu County, Kenya. It specifically investigated the proportion of Health workers trained on IDSR, level of knowledge regarding IDSR and Health system factors influencing IDSR utilization. This was a descriptive cross-sectional survey. It involved public health facilities with key respondents being the health care workers providing curative and preventive health services within the selected health facilities. Stratified sampling technique was used to stratify the 108 health facilities into levels of health care while proportionate sampling was used to select 143 participants in the respective level of care. An interviewer-administered questionnaire was used to collect data which was entered and analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software version 20. Chi-square test of independence was used to assess the associations between utilization of IDSR data, training, level of knowledge and health system factors while Regression analysis was used to establish the predictors of utilization of IDSR data. Utilization of IDSR index score shows 64.9% inadequate utilization of IDSR data. The available data has not been adequately utilized to inform action plans, public education, and resource mobilization. The study shows that 13.7% of health care workers had been adequately trained on IDSR while 75% had moderate knowledge of IDSR function. Accordingly, 54.6% of respondents had the opinion that there were inadequate essential supplies for IDSR. Chi-square analysis shows that the respondent’s duration of practice χ2 (2.437, df=3, p=0.045) and level of knowledge on IDSR were associated with utilization of IDSR data χ2 (0.227 df=2, p=0.048). Logistic regression analysis illustrates that the level of knowledge (A.O. R=1.55, p=0.041) and Cadre of respondents (A.O. R=0.827, p=0.023) were predictors of utilization of IDSR data
Study on Vibration and Stability Analysis of Thick Rectangular Plates Section
This paper is the second part of free vibration and stability analysis of thick isotropic and orthotropic plates. The support condition CCCC and CCFC support was considered by applying the alternative II theory based on polynomial shape function. The work was based on the application of the formulation earlier derived using Ritz method. The frequency values of the first mode and critical loads obtained were compared with those obtained using first order shear deformation theory. For span to depth ratio of 10, the fundamental linear frequency for orthotropic CCFC plate corresponding to modulus of elasticity ratios (E1/E2) of 10, 25 and 40 were 0.00312Hz, 0.00373 Hz and 0.00398Hz.
 
The Effect of Variable Viscosity on Unsteady Free Convective Fluid Flow over a Stretching Surface in the Presence of Thermal Radiation and Viscous Dissipation
The unsteady free convective flow of an incompressible, viscous, electrically conducting fluid over a vertical stretching surface with variable viscosity and thermal radiation in the presence of viscous dissipation is considered. The fluid is assumed to be gray, absorbing emitting but non-scattering medium. Thus, the Rosseland approximation is used to describe the radiative heat flux in the energy equation. The viscosity of the fluid is assumed to be an inverse linear function of temperature. Specifically, the study is aimed at determining the effects of variable viscosity parameter ( ), Eckert number ( ), and radiation parameter ( ) on temperature distribution profiles, while holding the Prandtl number constant that is corresponding to air. The specific energy equation governing the fluid flow is solved numerically by the finite difference method. The nonlinear partial differential equation is solved numerically by the finite difference method. MATLAB code is used to solve the Forward Time and Centered Space (FTCS) scheme. Further, stability and consistency analyses are performed on the FTCS scheme to determine the convergence of the scheme. Results for temperature distribution profiles are presented graphically for different values of variable viscosity ( ), Eckert number ( ), radiation parameter ( ). The findings are that an increase in variable viscosity and Eckert number causes an enhancement of temperature distribution profiles whereas an increase in radiation parameter leads to a decrease in temperature distribution profiles. The FTCS scheme was found to be unconditionally stable and consistent. The results obtained in this study follow expected trends and are in good agreement with some previous studies
Description of Transformational Leadership Style and Professionalism of Lecturers of Private Universities in Indonesia
Lecturers are one of the essential components of the higher education system in Indonesia. The roles, duties, and responsibilities of lecturers are critical in realizing national education goals, namely educating the nation's life and improving the quality of Indonesian human resources. The quality of human resources in question includes faith/taqwa, noble character, mastery of science, technology, and art, in realizing an advanced, just, prosperous, and civilized Indonesian society. Lecturers are required to be able to show good performance. Lecturer Research Sample The sample size was determined by using the Slovin formula of 150. Based on Table 7, it can be seen that from the distribution of respondents' answers about the leader must be friendly to subordinates, the majority of the answers agreed with as many as 91 respondents (60.7%), although there were 1 (0, 7%) of respondents who said they did not agree. The average score obtained is 4.03, indicating that respondents agree that leaders must always be friendly to subordinates, both lecturers and employees. The distribution of respondents' answers to the leader having good communication with subordinates shows that most of the respondents agree as many as 88 respondents (58.7%), although two respondents (1.3%) disagree. The average score of 4.03 shows that respondents agree with leaders who have good communication with subordinates. The results showed that the transformational leadership style was formed from idealized influence: inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individual consideration. The most significant contribution to the formation of a transformational leadership style is idealized influence, which is reflected in the leader must have extensive knowledge. The Epidemiology of Alcohol use Disorder in the Covid-19 Pandemic: A Kenyan Perspective
Aims: During the covid-19 pandemic period restrictions on alcohol consumption have been imposed by various governments guided by World Health Organization Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) guidelines on public protection. The focus is to limit the spread of Coronavirus disease. The study aims at using an Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test as a screening tool to explore experiences of alcohol consumption during the past one year of the Covid-19 pandemic among adults under rehabilitations in Kenyans.
Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional quantitative research design was used. Participants were sort from two Counties in Kenya with the highest rate of alcohol use while the purposive sampling method was used to select two rehabilitation facilities with the highest number of admitted clients. Ninety-three respondents participated; this was 83% of the calculated sample size.
Results: Study results tested hazardous alcohol use found that on the sequence of alcohol consumption, 71% of the participants consumed alcohol 4 or more times in a week. The test on dependence alcohol use found that on daily or almost daily most of the participants were unable to stop drinking once started, were unable to meet expectations due to drinking and needed a first drink in the morning after a heavy session, they were represented by 51.6%, 51.6%, and 66.7% respectively. On harmful alcohol use, 82% of the participants were concerned to cut down on their drinking.
Conclusion: Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test is an important tool to evaluate alcohol consumption during the covid-19 restrictions.
