    Sulphate Induced Strength Loss Index Optimisation of Periwinkle and Clam Shell Ash Hybrid Pozzolana Concrete

    The globe yearns for sustainability in meeting the present and future needs of man. Hence, research into a more sustainable modes of harvesting, processing and use of nature’s raw resources is evidently timely. Cement replacement is opined on the need to reduce the environmental as well as economical limitations associated with its production, while been configured to allow for adequate strength and durability. This paper introduces the mechanical behaviour of ternary blended cement composed of Portland limestone cement, calcined periwinkle and clamshell ashes in concrete exposed to a sulphated medium. Combined I-optimal mixture design was used to statistically develop and diagnose models from laboratory-analysed data and used to optimize calcination temperature and synergistic ratio, as well as the compressive strength and sulphate induced strength loss index (SISLI). For a constant sulphate medium of 5% sodium sulphate solution, the volatile calcination temperature range (25oC – 200oC) was separated from the placid (335oC – 800oC) during optimization. In comparison to a 28-day control SISLI of 16.47%, the optimal calcination temperature for SISLI was restricted at 606.7oC, yielding a respective SISLI of -0.078%. With respect to synergistic ratio, the developed model suggests that increasing the concentration of clamshell ash lowers the calcination temperature needed to improve concrete's resistance to sulphate attack, however, a balance needed for other mechanical and durability variables provided a ternary configuration of 54.6%PLC:25.1%PSA:20.3%CSA at a calcination temperature of 606.7%. The developed model can hence be integrated into the engineering society in decision making and policies associated with the adequate use of periwinkle and clamshell ashes as components of a ternary blended cement in concrete exposed to a sulphated environment.

    This study aims to describe and analyze the harmonization of the implementation of disaster management policies in disaster-prone areas based on the East Java Provincial Regulation Number 3 of 2010 concerning Disaster Management in East Java Province and the supporting and inhibiting factors in the harmonization of the implementation of disaster management policies in disaster-prone areas based on East Java Provincial Regulation Number 3 of 2010 concerning Disaster Management in East Java Province. This study uses a qualitative approach. The analysis technique in this study follows the steps of Strauss and Corbin data analysis in grounded theory. Implementation of Policy Harmonization of Disaster Management Policy includes: Human resources are the only resources that have a reason, feeling, desire, abilities, skills, knowledge, power, and work. All of these potentials greatly affect the government's efforts in dealing with natural disasters. Human resources are meant not only from the local government but also from the community in it. The policy strategy, implementation of natural disaster management, especially landslides in Batu City, East Java Province has not been optimal. This non-optimality cannot be separated from the lack of efficiency and effectiveness of the policies and implementation environment established by the Batu City Government. Community participation, the role of the community involved in pre-disaster, during the disaster, and post-disaster. During a disaster, the role of the community is to participate in making disaster risk analysis, conducting research related to disasters, carrying out disaster prevention efforts, cooperate with the government in mitigation efforts, participate in education, training and socialization of disaster management, and work together to create a Disaster Preparedness Village. The government's commitment is to carry out education, socialization and disaster management simulations, improvement of ecosystems in disaster-prone and vulnerable areas, development planning based on disaster mitigation, disaster resilience in infrastructure, disaster financing schemes, meeting the emergency needs of disaster victims and other midwives that are mutually agreed upon. Supporting factors in the implementation of policy harmonization of disaster management policies: power, interests, and strategies of the actors involved, characteristics of institutions and authorities, as well as compliance and responsiveness

    Appraisal of Suitability of the “Mista Ali Granite of Jos Plateau State Nigeria” as an Aggregate for Construction Material using Selected Testing Parameters

    The appraisal of the suitability of some selected granite deposits for aggregate stone production within the basement complex of Mista Ali of Jos Plateau state for road construction was carried out. Aggregate samples obtained from the deposits were analyzed in the laboratory to determine their mechanical properties by a series of composite testing parameters using aggregate abrasion value (AAV), aggregate impact value (AIV), aggregate crushing value (ACV), specific gravity (SG) and water absorption (WA) as contained in BS812, and AASHTOT96-92. It was found out that the granite deposits possess certain desirable aesthetic and visual characteristics. Also, the percentage mineralogical compositions of the studied samples were examined. The results had shown that Jolex Construction (JC) Quarry site has a good percentage composition of orthoclase and plagioclase content which reduces the rate of wearing and tearing. The results of the laboratory analyses on the aggregate sample indicated that the technical features measured such as the strength, density, and water absorption capacity of the “Mista Ali granite deposits” at the Jolex construction Quarry site are suitable for aggregate stone for road construction when compared with the globally accepted standard. The result of the appraisal will be useful and serve as database to prospective investors in aggregate stone quarrying

    With the rapid development of technology of hydraulic automation systems is observed in our current era, an ongoing effort to introduce engineering technology, automated solutions in everyday life with an emphasis on the field of hydraulic automation systems. The systems sector develops increasingly their fields of application, whether simple or hydraulic circuits for modern hydraulic automation circuits. This paper outlines the use of a statistical multivariate technique called Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and applies it to the monitoring and control of electro-hydraulic servo systems. The experiments were conducted using on-off and PID approaches to control the position of a hydraulic cylinder under different speeds and different PID coefficients. This approach was implemented using data from position sensors with programmable logic controllers (PLC) with the aid of supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA) to control the system and make online monitoring for the behavior of the hydraulic cylinder. The SCADA concept was developed to be a universal means of remote access to a variety of local control modules, which could be from different manufacturers and allow access through standard automation protocols. in practice, large SCADA systems have grown to become very similar to distributed control systems in function while using multiple means of interfacing with the plant. They can control large-scale processes that can include multiple sites, and work over large distances as well as small distances. It is one of the most commonly used types of industrial control systems, both large and small systems can be built using the SCADA concept, these systems can range from just tens to thousands of control loops depending on the application. PCA was used to detect the best speed and coefficient of the process. The proposed technique can be used for electro-hydraulic servo system monitoring in a real-time environment

    Automatic Railway Road Crossing (RLC) Traffic Light System for Metric Gauge Railway Network in Tanzania

    The verdict has been established that Railway Level Crossings (RLCs) present possible risk to roads users. Because of the ever-increasing number of vehicles on the road every day, it was determined that employing automation at level crossings can be beneficial to both road and railway users' safety. The aim is to develop an automated railway level crossing system that would reduce the likelihood of collisions between trains and road users at intersections. From the perspective of a railway level crossing, the conditions safeguards must meet is straightforward - Before a train passes, there must be a complete stop for all road users. Two RFID sensors and Ultrasonic sensors are used located at strike-in and strike-out points at the level crossing. Detection of automobiles stuck on the railroad once the train has activated the automation at the RLC is performed by the Ultrasonic sensor. Other warning measures in the system include an automated barrier, Light Emitting Diode flashing lights, and an audio alarm device. Arduino UNO and ESP32 were used as microcontrollers to perform all the logical operations and control commands. Consequently, the next train station from RLC was updated of the incoming train’s Expected Time of Arrival (ETA). The time it takes for the barriers to close will be determined by the train’s speed. In this project work, the prospective application strategy for securing railroad crossings is described in detail. It is the best feasible control of the level crossing by using the train detection system

    Study of Effective Dentists Communication with Laboratory Technicians in Removable Partial Prosthesis

    The aim of this study was to assess the means of communication used between the dentist and the dental technician in the removable partial prosthesis and to identify the difficulties encountered by the practitioners. Materials and methods: a descriptive study has conducted among a sample of 289 dentists in Casablanca, Morocco. The survey is a questionnaire of 18 questions created by the researchers for the needs of the present study. The exclusion criteria comprised retirees, replacements, pedodontists, and exclusive orthodontists. Dentists were informed about the objectives of the survey, and their oral consent was obtained. Throughout the study, anonymity and respect for the identity of the data have been ensured. Results: The results of this study show inadequate communication between dentists and laboratory technicians, modern means of communication are still less used compared to the traditional methods like written prescriptions (98,1%) or phone (63,6%). The use of the CAD/CAM technology was estimated at (16,4%), in which the minority use it in RPDs (4,7%). Communication difficulties can lead the dentist to end the relationship with the technician (63%). Relationship difficulties are related to insufficient communication due to incomplete or poorly written instructions by the practitioner. Conclusion: The quality of communication between dentist and laboratory technician is an essential component for the prosthetic project success. the training of dentists in communication with the dental technician and the use of new technologies is essential for good communication and better efficiency

    The Importance of Organizational Citizenship Behavior as a Mediator between Transformational Leadership and Managerial Performance

    The study results on the effect of transformational leadership on employee performance show inconsistent results. It is necessary to re-examine and add a mediating variable, namely Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB), OCB as a mediating variable between transformational leadership and managerial performance. This article aims to analyze transformational leadership's effect on managerial performance through OCB at State Electricity Enterprise Ltd. This study's population were all Structural State Electricity Enterprise Ltd employees, which amounted to 48 people. Data analysis techniques using path analysis will present the path coefficient obtained from regression analysis in stages. The results of the study found that transformational leadership has a significant effect on managerial performance through OCB. OCB can mediate transformational leadership on managerial performance, which means that transformational leadership reflect by Intellectual Stimulation. Respondents agree that managerial employees learn to discover new things and show new ways of solving work problems and recognizing aspects. The critical aspects of a complex problem will allow leadership to recruit and interview and select new employees
