Registration Challenges of Built Environment Professions into Professional Institutions
Tertiary institutions offering Built Environment courses yearly produce graduates but few of these graduates are registered as professionals or are full members of professional institutions in Nigeria. This insufficient registered professional is therefore creating room for quacks and all comers to operate in the construction industry resulting in building failures, substandard work, rework and various quality issues. This study examines the registration challenges of built environment professions in becoming full members of professional institutions. The study adopted a quantitative and qualitative method of research targeted at different professions in the built environment. The results were analysed using percentages, mean response analysis, ranking and narrative analysis. The study revealed the overbearing cost of registration, examinations and interview charges, complexity of examination and interviewing processes/procedures, Imposed of pledge/donations on incoming professionals, rigorous practical work and technical report writing, overbearing cost of providing maximum numbers of CPD certificates of past workshops, seminars and conference and Insufficient link between professional bodies and academic institutions etc. as the major challenges hindering Built environment professions from registering into professional institutions. These challenges pose a great danger to the built environment professions and the construction industry because professionals are a valuable resource for achieving project delivery and their availability in large numbers will curb the activities of quacks, reduce poor workmanship and underperformance in the construction industry and also reduce economic loss and underdevelopment in the countr
Study of Organochlorine Pesticide Residues Analysis in Water, Fish and Sediment using GC-ECD in River Loko, Nasarawa State, Nigeria
Levels of organochlorine pesticide (OCPs) residues in sediment, water and fish in River Loko, Nasarawa State, Nigeria, were evaluated for possible pollution of the aquatic system. Water and sediment samples were collected from the river at 3 locations. Fish caught in the river were bought from fishermen at the bank of the river. The samples were collected in rainy season and preserved according to standard methods. Liquid-liquid extractions of samples were carried out, and then quantified using gas chromatography coupled with electron capture detector (GC-ECD). The OCPs levels ranged from 0.06 to 1.53 µɡ/Kɡ in sediment, 0.03 to 1.34 µɡ/Kɡ in water and 0.02 to 1.34 µɡ/Kɡ in fish. 2, 4-Dichlorophenoxacetic acid (2,4-D) was the most accumulated OCP in sediment (1.64±0.10 µɡ/Kɡ), water (1.34±0.08 µɡ/Kɡ), and fish (1.34 µɡ/Kɡ). Concentrations of OCPs generally varied in the order of sediment > water > water ~ fish. ANOVA shows that concentrations of OCPs in water and fish were significantly (p ≤ 0.05) lower compared to sediment, except for mecoprop, imidacloprid, 2,4-D, and aldrin, which were not significantly different in the samples. Pearson correlation matrix for OCPs in water and sediment show moderate to very strong and positive correlations except for mecoprop (-0.705), alachlor (-0.217), imidacloprid (-0.082), permethrin (-0.339) and aldrin (-0.795).Concentrations of OCPs were within the FAO/WHO acceptable limits except for aldrin, mecoprop, metolachlor, simazine, DDT and dieldrin. Regular monitoring of the quality of River Loko becomes necessary due to accumulation of OCPs
Evaluating the Security Posture and Protection of Critical Assets of Industrial Control Systems in Zambia
The number of successful attacks on vital infrastructure has increased, as has the sophistication of the attacks. Many cybersecurity strategies include traditional best practices, but they frequently overlook organizational circumstances and unique critical infrastructure protection requirements. The goal of this qualitative multiple case research was to look into the cybersecurity tactics employed by IT managers and compliance officers to protect critical infrastructure from cyber threats. The participants in this study were IT managers and compliance officials from four Zambian case organizations. The conceptual framework was based on the routine activity theory published by criminologists Cohen and Felson in 1979. Interviews with two IT managers, three compliance officers, and 25 papers relating to cybersecurity and policy governance were used to gather data. Four significant themes emerged from data triangulation: the need for a robust worker training program, prioritizing infrastructure resiliency, the importance of security awareness, and the importance of organizational leadership support and investment. This research uncovered essential tactics that can help OT and compliance professionals enhance their cybersecurity strategy, which can help reduce successful assaults on critical infrastructure. The study findings will contribute to positive social change through an exploration and contextual analysis of cybersecurity strategy with situational awareness of OT practices to enhance cyber threat mitigation and inform business processes
Green Composites: A Review of Adequate Materials for Automobile Applications
Increased interest in polymer composites filled with natural organic fillers, fillers derived from renewable sources and biodegradable, has resulted from growing concern about environmental concerns and, on the other hand, the desire for more adaptable polymer-based materials. The composites, which are often, referred to as "Green," have a wide range of industrial uses. This research conducts a literature assessment in the wide field of green composites in order to identify materials with the potential to be used on automobile body panels in the near future. Materials derived from renewable resources will be favoured over finite fossil goods from now on. When the polymer matrix is biodegradable and originates from renewable sources, these composites may be even more environmentally beneficial. This rapid overview (with no pretence of exhaustiveness over such a big issue) demonstrates the major routes and findings of study (both academic and industry) on this relevant subject, as well as acceptable sources for further in-depth studies
A Comparative Study of the Rheological Properties and Stability of Local and Foreign Starch
Nigeria is a country blessed with a vast variety of food items and cassava happens to be one of them. It is geographically widespread hence; it is very cheap. This research work revealed that cassava apart from consumption can also serve as an additive in cement slurry for well completion in oilfield operations after series of test was conducted in the laboratory on it. Tests such as rheology, free fluid, determination of slurry weights and stability at different temperatures ranging from 80°F to 190°F and concentrations was conducted using API procedure. The rheological properties, free fluid, slurry weights and stabilities at different temperatures and concentrations of starch were established and compared with the foreign sample and the results obtained proved that local cassava starch can be a substitute for foreign starch sample as it was seen to have similar rheological properties when compared with the foreign starch sample. The plastic viscosity and yield point values obtained from the rheological deductions for local starch compared favorably with the foreign starch. In terms of free fluid, zero free fluid is usually recommended for filed practice. Local cassava starch was seen to have 0 free fluid which means that this could be a substitute with the foreign starch. For the slurry weights, there were no significant difference between them. Therefore, from the research finding, locally produced starch especially POCEMA starch proved to have properties suitable for application in oil filed cementing operations as there was no significant difference between them when compared

Growth Strategy and Performance of Selected Small and Medium Scale Enterprises in Anambra State, Nigeria
In numerous sectors, the intense global competition has resulted in a wave of mergers and acquisitions over the years. A company with the aim to remain in the race almost has to merge, buy, orally with another company. Another alternative is to expand and grow the organisation internally, e.g. diversifying, building completely new mills to new markets. Lack of adopting valid and effective growth strategies has been a problem for small and medium scale enterprises leading to a decline in their overall performance. The study thus evaluated the effect of growth strategy and performance of selected small and medium scale enterprises in Anambra State, Nigeria.
The study employed a cross-sectional survey research design. The Cross-Sectional survey research design was adopted to obtain information from the focus population concerning the current status of the phenomena through primary data collection. The population for the research comprised of selected small and medium scale enterprises that were registered with SMEDAN and operate in Anambra State, Nigeria. The total number of registered SMEs with SMEDAN as of 2017 was 1,504. The sample size for the study was obtained using the research advisors table. Based on a confidence level of 95 and the level of precision of 5% the samples size is 322 but with the addition of 30% for non-response rate, the sample was given thus as 418. The addition of 30% to the sample size is to ensure that the response rate of the study is attained significantly. Making provision for the non-response rate allows the researcher to improve the rate of response for the survey.
The findings of the study revealed that there is a relationship between the two variables. Concerning the exact effect of the penetration strategies on market share, the r2 = 0.452 shows the extent to which the penetration strategies explain the variation in market share of the selected small and medium scale enterprises. The coefficient also revealed that there is a positive relationship between the penetration strategies and the market share of the selected small and medium scale enterprises
The study recommended that penetration strategies should be given adequate attention and consideration by different small and medium-sized enterprises to reap benefits. Penetration strategies which are an effective tool for achieving better performance over rival firms should be adequately implemented by the organization
