    Web-Based Management System for Student Score Passing Grades

    In the current digital era, all schools from elementary to tertiary levels certainly require computer equipment and supporting applications to support teaching and learning activities. One indicator of learning success is seen from the students or their learning outcomes. Learning outcomes are the success achieved by students, namely student learning achievements in schools that manifest in numbers or grades. Many schools in managing grades currently use a media system for storing student data, teacher data, class data, lesson schedule, and score data that are still done offline without a database, as well as what happened at the Santa Ursula Junior High School of Jakarta. Filling in the assignments, daily tests, semester test scores, and final semester examinations is always done in writing on paper, which results in a slow score calculation process, so it takes a long time. Based on this condition, the researchers designed and created a web-based information system that precisely handled the management of student scores and printed them out. The design of the grading management information system for the academic administration of grading management was built using the PHP programming language with a database with MySQL and XAMPP Server. This system aimed to facilitate the academic administration of schools, teachers, students, and homeroom teachers

    Innovation of a Sliding Whiteboard for Teaching and Learning process

    The innovation was done at Kenya Medical Training College, Nyeri. The main objectives were to come up with a whiteboard with increased writing surface area to avoid frequent & disruptive rubbing of the written part of a whiteboard during a lecture session and to use a sliding whiteboard as a teaching aid in a classroom setup. The design innovation method was used. The idea was to stack two or three whiteboards and then slide the first board to reveal the second board underneath. Followed by sliding, the second board to reveal the third board underneath. A dummy was developed, followed by the development of the final product. A sliding whiteboard (i.e. Kimwetich sliding board) with increased writing/illustration surface area was developed in March 2022 at a cost of Ksh 35,000 (350 USD). After putting up the first whiteboard ever on campus, students and lecturers were very excited to use it. The lecturers reported that the writing surface area on the whiteboard has surprisingly increased and is very convenient to use a sliding whiteboard. The students said that teaching and learning were more exciting than before. The use of a sliding whiteboard (i.e. Kimwetich sliding board) can easily be replicated in other learning facilities and institutions. The same concept can be used in a blackboard, smart board, 3D screens, and computer PowerPoint slides. Since it offers an opportunity for stimulus variation, teaching and learning was made more enjoyable. Value for money was realized, in that, the normal whiteboard with only two (2) writing surfaces was replaced by the sliding whiteboard with seven (7) writing surfaces. The space for putting up a whiteboard in the classroom walls was reduced hence maximizing space. The whiteboard is simple to use and doesn’t require any training

    Multi-Document Text Summarization Using Deep Belief Network

    Recently, there is a lot of information available on the Internet, which makes it difficult for users to find what they're looking for. Extractive text summarization methods are designed to reduce the amount of text in a document collection by focusing on the most important information and reducing the redundant information.  Summarizing documents should not affect the main ideas and the meaning of the original text. This paper proposes a new automatic, generic, and extractive multi-document summarizing model aiming at producing a sufficiently informative summary. The idea of the proposed model is based on extracting nine different features from each sentence in the document collection. The extracted features are introduced as input to the Deep Belief Network (DBN) for the classification purpose as either important or unimportant sentences. Only, the important sentences pass to the next phase to construct a graph. The PageRank algorithm is used to assign scores to the graph sentences. The sentences with high scores were selected to create a summary document. The performance of the proposed model was evaluated using the DUC-2004 (Task2) dataset using ROUGE more. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed model is more effective than the baseline method and some state-of-the-art methods, Where ROUGE-1 reached 0.4032 and ROUGE-2 to 0.1021

    A Web-based Awareness System for Improving Open-source e-learning Software adoption by Nigerian Higher Institutions of learning

    Open-source software has been widely developed and adopted for different purposes, including in the educational sector. Many institutions of learning extensively utilize open-source e-learning software to complement their in-class programs, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. But many institutions of learning in Nigeria are still unable to utilize the opportunity due to a lack of adequate awareness and guidance on how to adopt the software. This study is aimed at educating the Nigerian public on open-source e-learning software and its benefits in education, especially in tertiary institutions amid the COVID-19 pandemic. To better have a wide coverage of respondents in Nigerian tertiary institutions, we conducted an online survey and a paper-based questionnaire. A sample of 500 responses was collected from Nigerians with different high educational levels regarding Open-Source e-learning adoption and awareness. However, only 349 responses were returned. The results of the survey were analyzed using python-based analysis libraries. The findings indicated that a greater percentage of the respondents were aware of what constitutes open-source e-learning but that most institutions in Nigeria have not fully utilized the platform for learning activities. It is implied that a reasonable number of respondents have literacy knowledge of open-source learning and agree that COVID-19 has greatly influenced the use of e-learning software in Nigerian institutions. It is therefore recommended that more work be done to improve the awareness level of various institutions to fully utilize the technology and the benefits it represents. This led to the development of a web-based solution for creating more awareness among the public. This would help close the gap found in this study and affect how open-source e-learning software is used in Nigerian schools

    Vegetable Yield responses to Coffee pulp Co-composted with Effective Microorganisms (EM) and bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) Crop Residues

    In a follow-up study to experiments conducted in order to evaluate the fertilizer potentials of coffee, pulp composts enhanced with (micro) biological accelerators on potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) and bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) crops, a triple experiment was conducted on two cabbage (Brassica oleracea L.) varieties (Mukasi and Kidodo) and on eggplant (Solanum melongena L.). Tested treatments were: T1=Coffee pulp (CP) alone, T4=CP + 2 L molasse + 2 L EM + 74 kg of dolomitic lime (CP+EM2), T5= CP + 33.5 kg of bean residues (BR) + 33.5 kg of soil (forest soil) (CP+BR2), T6=Recommended organo-mineral fertilizer application for cabbage and T7=Control (non amended/fertilised). The first experiment with the Mukasi cabbage (Brassica oleracea L.) variety showed that CP+EM2 (T4) and CP+BR2 (T5) gave statistically equivalent yields. In the second experiment with the cabbage (Kidodo variety), fresh head yields followed the order: T5 (CP + BR2) ≥ T6 (organo-mineral fertilizer) ≥ T1 (CP alone) ≥ T4 (CP+ EM2) ≥ T7 (Control), indicating the superiority of the coffe pulp co-composted with bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) residues. Overall, CP+EM2 treatment (T4) did not perform well, particularly with Kidodo variety. The low performance of CP+EM2 (T4) was confirmed by the eggplant experiment, in which the highest yield was registered with the CP compost alone (T1), followed by CP + BR2 (T5), the control treatment (T7), and lastly by CP + EM2 (T4). In accordance with the previous potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) and bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) experiments, we confirm the consistent agronomic superiority of the CP+BR2 treatment (T5) over other tested treatments, including the costly inorganic treatment (T6). This conclusive statement is enhanced by the fact that the CP+BR2 treatment (T5) is more accessible and more reproducible by farmers (because locally available), in comparison with the CP+EM2 treatment (T4). The latter compost treatment is more problematic with regard to cost of acquisition (importation), conservation, manipulation and availability to poor rural Burundi farmers

    Fraud cases dominated the crime rate over the internet during the Covid-19 pandemic. Many citizens who report instances of online fraud in purchasing goods dominate up to 25% of reports in the Police. This study used an empirical juridical approach and was analyzed using descriptive-analytical methods. In investigating online buying and selling fraud cases during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Police experienced many obstacles and difficulties because issues related to cybercrime were handled differently from ordinary or conventional criminal cases. The strength of evidence is beneficial for investigators in investigating criminal cases because, without evidence, an issue cannot be resolved briefly. The crime of online business-based fraud during the Covid-19 pandemic is in principle the same as conventional fraud, but the difference lies in the evidence or means of action, namely using electronic systems (computers, internet, and telecommunication devices)

    Study of Building License Services at Malang Regency: Policy Implementation Delegation of the Regent's Authority to the Camat in Kepanjen District, Malang Regency, Indonesia

    As the implementation of Malang Regent Regulation concerning Delegation of Regent's Authority to District Leaders or called Camat. Part of the authority of the Regent can be delegated to the Camat as policy implementer at the District level. It aims to provide effective and efficient services. Building Permit Service is one of the public services that can be held at the sub-district level. The service for building permits is very important considering that the legality that is owned by the community towards building ownership will provide a financial value to the building and also the community will have legal power if a problem occurs one day. The process of obtaining a building permit on average can be completed within 14 working days. The application process must complete the application form and must collect the requirements that have been set. If the requirements have been met, the file will be validated and a location survey schedule will be made to match the data in the file with conditions in the field. After obtaining a match with the conditions in the field, a certificate of building construction permit will be drafted. In the service of building permits, the applicant will be charged a retribution fee which has been stipulated in the Malang Regency Regional Regulation, concerning Certain Licensing Retribution. If there are no errors, the certificate will be signed by the Head of the Kepanjen District and can then be submitted to the applicant. The provisional results of research conducted in Kepanjen District, Malang Regency on the implementation of building permits have been running according to the procedures set out in Malang Regent Regulation concerning Delegation of Regent's Authority to Camat

    This study projected the theme: ‘Remote Causes of Restiveness in the Niger Delta Area of Southern Nigeria: An Empirical Analyses of the Impact of Criminal Activities along the Water Ways on the Economy in the Niger Delta Area’. The aim of the study is pointedly to investigate into the remote causes of criminal activities along the water ways in the Niger Delta area through the specific objectives of ascertaining the relationship between the dimensions of Criminal Activities along the Niger Delta area and the measures of Poor Economy, and how the moderating variables positively influenced and the suppressor variables negatively influenced the relationship between Criminal Activities and Poor Economy. By the doctrine of agreement reality, Rivers State, Bayelsa State and Delta State were the areas covered by this study. A population of 4130 persons, made up of the boat operators, the inland waterways officials and the passengers was the parameter for this study. A sample size of 897 persons, determined by the use of Krejcie and Morgan (1970) sample determination table was used as the information base. A cross-sectional design method was used to extract primary information from the research respondents, using a questionnaire. Scientific Package for Social Sciences (Version 25) and EViews 10 were used to do the univariate and bivariate analyses and the assumption testing to ascertain that the instrument used for this study was valid and reliable; the constructs (variables) were scientifically suitable to achieve the study objectives to avoid type 1, type 2 and type 3 errors. The objective findings of this study were that: there was a significant relationship between criminal activities along the water ways and Poor Economy in the Niger Delta area; Desire, Opportunity and Target positive influencers, while Duty of Care and Employment were negative influencers in the relationship between criminal activities and poor economy in the Niger Delta area. There were also a number of serendipitous findings from this study. The conclusion from this study was that government’s negligence of providing duty of care and employment are the root causes of restiveness in the Niger Delta area. Recommendations, based on the objective and serendipitous findings were proposed

    Information Management Needs among Smallholder Farmers: The Case of Poultry Famers in Arusha of Tanzania

    Thirty-seven (37) smallholder poultry farmers from four Arusha and Meru districts villages in the Arusha region were interviewed to gather insight into their farms’ information management needs and challenges. The farmers were interviewed to obtain information regarding their farming system, mobile phone usage and record-keeping behaviour. The primary aim was to acquire the smallholder poultry farmer’s needs regarding information management and gather the possible requirements to assist in the system development process. The farmers interviewed kept 300 to 1000 chickens for either meat or egg production. The interviews revealed that 30% of the farmers kept records of varying quality in farm logbooks. The main interest in record-keeping was on three farm production, sales, health, and finances. All farmers owned at least one mobile phone and used its primary communication function to run their businesses, and 75% of the farmers kept their records in diaries and notebooks for a short period. None of the farmers used the cell phone to record detailed information on the farm, although some used the calendar for vaccination reminders and mobile money transactions. With observed farmers’ information management needs, the system that will help them record their data and manage the information, give back analyses reports, and register their farms is required by the farmers to satisfy the needs
