An Estranged Client and an Annoyed Patron: Shift in the Pakistan-US Relations during the ‘War on Terror’.
The Cold War period witnessed Pakistan and the United States as “staunch allies” with patron-client bond. The end of the East-West confrontation, however, began a new era in Pak-American relations due to the changing priorities of the long-time ties amongst the departments of bilateral allies- CIA, State Department, the White House, and the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI). Main concerns of these policy-making bodies/agencies clashed with their counterparts in their policies toward Afghanistan and Pakistan’s tribal belt following the 9/11 events. The divergence of approaches toward the future of Afghanistan and giving a casual response to the sensitivity of Pakistan’s security vis-à-vis India has further aggravated tension between the Pakistan Army and the US policy making bodies. The war on terror especially along Pakistan’s Western border in the tribalareas is infuriating the already volatile situation. The sources of policies which have brought the two countries to the brink of wrangling are the stumbling blocks in winning the war on terror

US WAR ON TERRORISM AND ITS IMPACT ON SOUTH ASIA
A reading of history gives one the impression that characteristically the gamut of history is divided into different phases, of short and long duration. Each of the numerous phases of history typically starts with the happening of some events of extra ordinary importance, whose profound implications dominate the world stage throughout the phase. The contemporary phase of the history is, beyond doubt, dominated by the phenomenal war on terrorism. The US-led war on terrorism which started in 2001 has been the characteristic feature of the first decade of the new century. Its impact has been as pervasive as common for all the nations of the world and for designs of their interaction with one another. South Asia, on account of a number of factors, has been at the centre stage in this global fight. As a consequence, it has left overwhelmingly impact on the different states in this region. This impact has been not only on the regional dynamics, not only on the bilateral relations of the South Asian states, but also, most significantly, on their domestic politics as well. This paper will make an effort to have a brief assessment of such an impact on all the three levels

In this paper an attempt is made to bring forth those strategies through which ethnic tension between ethnic identities can be minimized. For minimizing the ethnic tension between ethnic identities, it is necessary that blocs (social groups) should be properly placed together and there should be some force to hold them together securely. The existence of such a force is thus an essential of satisfactory integration. Blocs appear to be solid, beautiful if placed properly, attractive if roles are defined and committedly performed. Apparently developed societies look peaceful and coherent, but from inside, the erosion is there, destabilizing factors undermine structure and poisonous trees grow in the social soil. Developing societies like Pakistan are fraught with unbalance placing of blocs, ignored strengthening of settings; disordered behavior of pattern
WAR ON TERRORISM: IMPLICATIONS FOR PAKISTAN
The terrorist attacks in New York and Washington commonly known as 9/11 created a far-reaching new security paradigm at the international level. The primary focus of the world, especially of the US security policy became to wipe out the menace of terror and terrorist hideouts in the world. The US target of ‘war on terror” turnedout to be Afghanistan, on the basis of ‘either with us or with the terrorists’ policy. The states around the world had to choose between supporting the US ‘war on terror’ or else face its wrath
Revitalizing the Eschewed Nexus: Pandemics, Public Health and National Security
The history of human race holds copious stories of outbreak of pandemics and infectious diseases. The impacts of diseases, strategies and responses and the way forward in post pandemic era grabbing the attention of scholarly community across different disciplines is not new too. Unsurprisingly, amid recent wave of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), public health and health security are the buzz words in leaders’ speeches, the media and scholarship. Despite the growing appreciation of plethora of threats posed by pandemics in a highly globalized andinterdependent world, the concept of national security, pertaining to its scope and meaning, is wanting in precision. The paper makes a case for the need to appreciate health-national security interactions in intellectual and policy-making world by drawing upon two major arguments; firstly, health is an essential stabilizing factor for state that overlaps and interacts with military, economicand traditional components of security and secondly, state stands out for being the most effective governance structure to prevent diseases and to carry out an effective response to health crisis. Generation of narratives and lexicons, therefore, need not to be completely outside the master’s house of traditional IR thinking to fully comprehend the nature and sources of insecurity. The paperconcludes that an intellectual pathway responsive and accommodative to these interconnected and overlapping sources of (in)securities is needed to guide policy makers to ensure the security of nations in a changing world

The Metalinguistic Dilemma of Freedom of Expression: Its Limits
Freedom of expression is aninnate human right although its misuse has madeit a controversial subject in every part of the world. It has been exploited in thecontext of hatred speech to malign different religions and races. It is beingapplied in negative manners to propagate aversion and hatred for specificethnic or religious groups under the excuse that it constitutes one of the innatehuman rights an individual has to freely express any like or dislike as his/herown opinion. This research upholds that unbridled freedom of speechgenerates widespread inferiority complexes, violence and generally injusticeand interferes with other fundamental human rights. This article aims tohighlight different aspects of the subject especially freedom of speech from aninternational perspective, as well as draw guidelines for the safety and respectof all individuals alike, without consideration of gender, race, religiousaffiliation, ethnicity, etc. This study proves that all rights have limitations andfreedom of speech should be no less. The reason for this is, while a person is,without any doubt, entitled to express his or her own opinion, these opinionsshould not interfere with the rights of others
