    NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF BREAST CANCER PATIENTS ATTENDING THE CHEMOTHERAPY

    The present study was carried out “Nutritional status of breast cancer patients attending the chemotherapy” with the objectives to assess the nutrient intake, anthropometric and clinical assessment of the breast cancer patients. A cross section survey which was conducted on a sample of 184 patients. The anthropometric measurements (Height, Weight and BMI) and Dietary intake (24 hours dietary recall method) was recorded and calculated using food composition table compared with RDA (ICMR, 2010). The result shows that 100 per cent patients were having lump nodes and swelling, 65 per cent experiencing change in shape, 11.95 per cent difference in nipple, 61.95 per cent unusual discharge, 57.04 per cent rashes on their skin and 18.47 per cent pain in breast .It was found that the mean daily intakes of protein, fiber, calcium, iron and vitamins were more and energy, carbohydrate and fat were less than ICMR, RDA value of normal woman. BMI of the respondents was observed before chemotherapy which indicated 1.08 per cent underweight, 34.81 per cent normal weight, 31.0 per cent overweight, 15.23 per cent grade I obese, 16.30 per cent grade II obese and 1.63 per cent grade III obese whereas after chemotherapy, 12.5 per cent underweight, 17.93 per cent normal weight, 36.99 per cent overweight, 15.23 per cent Grade I obese and 17.4 per cent Grade II obese were recorded.&nbsp

    THE IMPACT OF POPULATION DENSITY AND SEEDS OF CHICKEN ON THE PRODUCTION PARAMETERS OF BROILER CHICKEN

    The primary objective of this study was to investigate the influence of population density on productionparameters in fattening chickens of Cobb 500 hybrids. Based on theoretical and experimental studies, theinfluence of population density, floor surface per chicken, chickens mortality, chickens weekly growth, final bodychicken weight, food consumption (in kg) per kg of food intake or conversion, and other production parameters.The study was carried out on 225 day-old chickens - Cobb 500, which were placed in 3-square-foot boxedcubicles with five different population density. The control group (K₀ ) was populated in a density of 15 chickens/ m² which is a technological standard, and the experimental groups K₁ , K₂ , K₃ and K₄ were populated withdensity of 13 chickens / m², 14 chickens / m², 16 chickens / m² and 17 chickens / m² of floor pads.When choosing chickens, it was considered that the chickens of the experimental groups were approximately thesame mass. Selected chicken specimens of the same gender ratio 50:50 (ten male and ten female) are markedwith rings, with the number of records attached to their legs. The rings are made of modified plastic resistant towater and high temperature, avoiding the possibility of damaging numbers and the determination of the numberof sample chickens.Nutrition and environmental conditions were the same for all chickens. For the purpose of the researchproduction parameters after a completed 42-day fattening period, 10 male and 10 female chicks of each samplegroup were selected by the random sample method. By Individual weighing of chickens the body mass wasdetermined, the weekly increase in body mass per group, and the final body mass at the end of each week. Inaddition, in all sample groups, mortality of chickens, consumption and food conversion was monitored. The datawere analyzed by statistical program SPSS 15.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA).Based on the results of the researches it was shown that population density in the sample groups did not affectthe mortality of chickens and that the daily and physical growth rates were highest in the K₂ group withpopulation density of 14 individuals / m² and the smallest in group K₁ with density of population of 13 units / m².Also, the lowest average body mass of chickens was obtained in the K₁ group with a population density of 13units / m². There was no statistically significant difference (p> 0.001) of population density impact on the finalbody mass of chickens in the sample groups

    Nutritional Analysis of Paratha prepared from Dehydrated Brahmi (Centella asiatica)

    The present study was carried out with the objective to develop value added food product by incorporating dehydrated brahmileaves with wheat and gram flour as well as to evaluate organoleptic quality, to determine nutritive value of prepared foodproducts. Chemical analysis of dehydrated leaves for moisture ash, protein, fat, carbohydrate and energy were determined usingthe standard procedure of AOAC, 2007. Value added food product Paratha was made by using dehydrated leaves withproportion distributed 97:3, 96:4, 95:5 referred as T1, T2 and T3 and control T0 was prepared without the incorporation ofdehydrated leaves. The data obtained during the study were analyzed statistically using analysis of variance (ANOVA), criticaldifference (C.D.) techniques and t-test. Results shows that dehydrated Brahmi leaves contains 13.9percent moisture,1.95percentash, 13.5g protein, 2.3g fat, 68.3g carbohydrate, 348kcal energy,13.8mg iron, 189mg calcium and 26600µg total carotene. Onthe basis of sensory evaluation, treatment T1 of prepared products was found to be most acceptable as compared to othertreatments. Nutritionally, it was found that the nutrients content of best treatment T1 of both the products, were significantlyhigher with regards to calcium, iron, total carotene as compared to the control T0 due to the incorporation of dehydrated brahmileaves.     Analysis of Rainfall Distribution in Puri District of Odisha

    The distribution of rainfall always varies with time. As a result, there isoccurrence of drought, abnormal and normal months with respect to amount of rainfall indifferent years. This necessitates the statistical assessment of rainfall probability. Puri districtlies in the coastal region of Odisha. The study of rainfall pattern in Puri district is of utmostimportant for proper planning of the crops due to the random nature of rainfall pattern. Theprobability distribution of drought, normal and abnormal rainfall at Puri district ofOdisha is studied monthly and seasonally from rainfall data for period of 20 years (1997-98to 2016-17). The month in which the monthly rainfall is less than half of mean monthlyrainfall is regarded as drought month. The month in which the monthly rainfall is more thantwice the mean monthly rainfall is regarded as abnormal month and the month in which themonthly rainfall is in between half and twice of the mean monthly rainfall is regarded asnormal month. During kharif season (June – September) the probability of normal rainfallremains high and the probability of occurrence of drought months is very low. The probabilityof drought months remains high in rabi season, whereas, in summer season the probability ofabnormal months remains high. The Coefficient of Variation of rainfall is less in wet monthsi.e. months having more rainfall and is high in dry months i.e. months having very lessrainfall. Thus, it can be concluded that the degree of uncertainty of rainfall increases in drymonths and the wet months have high degree of certainty in occurrence of rainfall.&nbsp

    Accumulation of Arsenic in Different Parts of Rice Genotypes from Contaminated Field Condition

    According to recent reports, millions of people across the globe are suffering fromarsenic (As) toxicity. Arsenic is present in different oxidative states in the environment andenters in the food chain through soil and water. In the agricultural field, irrigation witharsenic contaminated water, that is, having a higher level of arsenic contamination on thetop soil, which may affects the quality of crop production. The major crop like rice (Oryzasativa L.) requires a considerable amount of water to complete its lifecycle. Rice plantspotentially accumulate arsenic, particularly inorganic arsenic (iAs) from the field, indifferent body parts including grains. A study was conducted to evaluate rice germplasm fortheir arsenic content in different plant parts and phosphorus content in grains. Results showedthat in the rice plant highest arsenic was accumulated in the roots and the lowest in the grain.The arsenic accumulation follows the order of root>shoot> leaf> grain. The results alsorevealed that IRRI dhan was quite tolerant to arsenic and Satabdi 1 was susceptible to arsenicaccumulation.     Development of Statistical Model for Pre-Harvest Yield Prediction of Kharif Groundnut in Rajkot District of Gujarat State

     Crop production and productivity depend on climate in general and weather in particular. The productivity of the crop depends on soil characteristics and weather conditions during season. The present study of forecasting groundnut yield for Rajkot district based on weekly average data of weather parameters like maximum and minimum temperature, morning and afternoon relative humidity, sunshine hours and past year total rainfall over a period of 35 years (1976-2010) for Rajkot district. The approach used for forecasting yield was original weather variables and week wise approach. The time trend was include as an explanatory variable. For this district, the model of 14 weeks period (week wise approach) was selected. The model for Rajkot district can be used for providing pre-harvest forecast four weeks before expected harvest. The result of the study shows that model selected for Rajkot district for pre-harvest forecast explain more than 75 percent variation.&nbsp

    Proteome Analysis of Nitrogen Starvation Responses in Cyanobacteria

    Carbon dioxide is one of the principle pollutant warming the earth. In the global effort to combat the climate change, several CO2 capture and storage technologies are deliberated. In the past 150 years, anthropogenic activities have pumped enough carbon dioxide into the atmosphere to raise its levels to 400 ppm, higher than they have been for hundreds of thousands of years. Microalgae can provide solutions to the twin challenges of energy security and environmental pollution. Environmental factors play a significant role and control the availability of CO2 which affect carbondioxide concentrating mechanism activity. In this study, the effects of nitrate feeding on microalgal growth and related CO2 fixation were evaluated, as an affinity to increase carbon fixation. On nitrate depletion, the growth of cyanobacterial cells declined. The increasing concentration of nitrate from 5 g/L to 20 g/L rapidly increased the biomass of Phormidium animale from (0.51 mg/ml) to (0.80 mg/ml) on the 20th day of growth. Low molecular weight protein bands were suppressed in nitrate stress condition due to decrease in metabolism and photosynthesis in cyanobacterial isolates. High intensity protein bands of molecular weight 29 – 30 kDa was noted in higher nitrate concentration but in low nitrate concentrations have less intense bands in Anabaena sp. A number of faint bands was noted in Nostoc sp. These results indicated that the protein profile in the carbon concentrating mechanism from growth to protein expression of carbonic anhydrase and RuBisCo.  &nbsp

    Development of Tensio-Emitter- A Soil Moisture Tension Controlled Emitter

    Timely application of irrigation water in precise amounts increases crop yield due to decreasedmoisture stress to plants and loss of water through percolation and subsequent nutrient leaching. Manytimes, automatic scheduling of irrigation is desired as it ensures timely and precise application and reducedlabour cost. Automatic scheduling of irrigation usually involves sophisticated instrumentation which isexpensive and requires external power. Irrigation can be scheduled by measuring the moisture tension inthe soil which is an indicator the amount of water available to the crop. A system which utilizes the sensedmoisture tension to directly control the water applied without using an external power source is desired.This study was carried out to develop a simple and cost effective soil moisture tension controlled irrigationemitter that works without any external power sources. The developed Tensio-Emitter consists of a porouscup and emitter assembly and it functions on the same principle as that of a tensiometer. The TensioEmitter can be calibrated by adjusting the conical valve and the top assembly, so that water flows throughthe emitter only when the soil becomes dry and closes when the soil receives enough water.     SEASONAL INCIDENCE AND MANAGEMENT OF BUDWORM, Hendecasis duplifascialis (Hampson) IN Jasminum Sambac L.

     A field experiment was conducted in Killikulam, Tuticorin, India, during summer season in 2018. The evaporation, sunshine hours and morning relative humidity had positive effect with 0.508*, 0.594* and 0.799**. The mean of evening relative humidity and rainfall had negative effect with -0.559* and -0.774**. A unit increase in the rainfall resulted in a decrease of 3.38 per cent damage. The efficacy of five botanicals and eleven insecticides were evaluate against jasmine bud worm, Hendecasis duplifascialis (Hampson) infesting Jasminum sambac. Chlorantriniliprole 18.5 SC @ 0.1 ml/l, flubendiamide 39.35 SC @ 0.75 ml/l, thiacloprid 21.7 SC @ 0.30 ml/l, dimethoate 30 EC @ 2.0 ml/l and novaluron 10 EC @ 1.00 ml/l recorded lower infestation (6.21, 6.64, 7.64, 7.92 and 13.69 per cent infested buds per five clusters per 10 plants, respectively). Among, the botanicals NSKE @ 5.0 per cent and pungam oil @ 2.0 per cent was superior against budworm followed by pungam oil @ 2.0 per cent with 81.67 and 76.10 per cent reduction, respectively.&nbsp
