    Economic Analysis of Integrated Pig cum Fish Farming in Assam

    : Integrated fish farming refers to the simultaneous culture of fish or shell fish along with other culturesystems. It may also be defined as the sequential linkage between two or more culture practices. Generallyintegrated farming means the production or culture of two or more farming practices. Fish culture can beintegrated with several systems for efficient resource utilisation. The integration of aquaculture with livestock orcrop farming provides quality protein food, resource utilisation, recycling of farm waste, employment generationand economic development. On farm waste recycling, an important component of integrated fish farming is highlyadvantageous to the farmers as it improves the economy of production and decrease the adverse environmentalimpact of farming. Integrated Fish Farming is one of the best examples of mixed farming. This type of farmingpractices in different forms mostly in the East and South East Asian countries is one of the important ecologicalbalanced sustainable technologies

    Nanotechnology- A Novel Approach to Process Fish and Fishery Products

    In the context of seafood, Nanotechnology can be meant as the understanding and control ofmatter at a nanoscale where unique phenomena enable novel applications in fishery industry. Nanomaterialsare further defined as substances between 1 and 100 nm in size showing physical, chemical and biologicalproperties that are not found in bulk samples of the fish and fishery products. Applications ofnanotechnology have emerged with increasing need of nanoparticle uses in various fields of fishery sciencesand fish microbiology, including fish processing, fish and fishery products packaging, functional fish as fooddevelopment, fish safety, detection of foodborne pathogens, and shelf-life extension of perishable fish andfish products. This review summarizes the potential of nanoparticles for their uses in the fishery industry inorder to provide consumers a safe and contamination free fish and to ensure the consumer acceptability ofthe fish with enhanced functional properties. Aspects of application of nanotechnology in relation toincreasing in fish nutrition and organoleptic properties of fishes have also been discussed briefly along witha few insights on safety issues and regulatory concerns on nano-processed food products.&nbsp

    Preparation of Dal Pakori by Incorporation of Horse Gram Dal

    The present study was undertaken to determine the “Preparation of Dal pakori byincorporation of horse gram dal” was carried out with the objectives to analyse the effect of cooking methodson oxalic and phytic acid content of pulses, to evaluate the organoleptic characteristics of the developed foodproduct, to evaluate the nutritional value of the prepared food product, to evaluate the nutritionalcomposition of the prepared food product. The product namely “Dal pakori” was prepared by incorporationof horse gram which served as treatments- T1 (90g moong dal: 10g of horse gram), T2 (80g moong dal: 20g ofhorse gram) andT3 (70g moong dal: 30g of horse gram) respectively for each of the product prepared. T0(basic ingredients without incorporation of horse gram) served as control for each product prepared. Theorganoleptic evaluation of the products with regard to attributes of colour and appearance, body and texture,taste and flavour and overall acceptability were done using the 9-point Hedoinc Scale (Srilakshmi, 2011)based score card and their nutritional composition was assessed using the food composition table (Gopalan etal., 2011). The data obtained during the study were analyzed statistically using analysis of variance, C.D.techniques and t-test.On the basis of findings, result shows that Dal pakori prepared by the incorporation of moong dal and horsegram in the ratio of 90:10 (T1) was found most acceptable with regards to colour and appearance, body andtexture, taste and flavour and overall acceptability. Nutritive value of prepared product indicates that protein,fiber, calcium and energy was found highest in all treatments comparatively control.&nbsp

    Estimation of Plant Available Boron Status in Some Agricultural Soil of Pasinler Plain With Chemical and Biological Method

     The purpose of this investigation was to determine chemical extraction andbiological method to be used in determining plant available bor in Pasinler Plain Soils. Forthis purpose 11 representative soil samples were sampled. A glasshouse experiment wasconducted using randomised block design was used in three replicates. Corn (Zea maysL.Var.Akpınar) plants were harvested 8 weeks after germination and, rye plants (S.CeraleTetraploid) were harvested 17 day after germination. Boron uptake of the tested plants weredetermined. In order to determine the available boron contents of soils, chemical methods(Azometin-H spectrofotometric and ICP spektrometric) were used: Boron content of testedplants (corn and rye ) were taken as biological indexes.As a result, the Azometin-H spectrofotometric method indicated that 7 of 11 soil samples (1,2,7 and 9 soil number) had not enough plant available B content. Where as the 11 soilsamples had enough sufficiency for B content of corn plants. On the other hand , it wasobtained that B content of rye plants was enough in 7 out of 11 soil samples based on theNeubauer seedling technique.Conclusion in 11 soil samples representing Pasinler Plain ,Azometin-H spectrofotometric andICP spektrometric method produced the highest correlation ( p<0.05 ) with the biologicalindexes

    Effect of Different Weed Management Practices on Yield of Rainfed Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) under Vertisol

    A field experiment was carried out at Agricultural Research Station, Kovilpatti, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University during rabi season of 2017- 2018 to study the effect of different weed management practices in rainfed sesame. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications having ten different weed management treatments in rainfed sesame variety SVPR 1 under vertisol. Application of Alachlor @ 1.5  kg a.i. ha-1 as pre emergence fbQuizalofop ethyl @ 50 g a.i. ha-1 on 25 DAS as early post emergence recorded significantly lesser weed density, dry weight, weed index and higher weed control efficiency and inturn significantly produced higher seed yield (550 kg ha-1) and stalk yield (2432 kg ha-1). It was followed by the application of Pendimethalin @ 1.0 kg a.i. ha-1 as pre emergence fbQuizalofop ethyl @ 50 g a.i. ha-1 on 25 DAS as early post emergence.&nbsp

    Influence of Different Organic Manures on the Growth and Yield of Baby Corn

     Field experiment was conducted at Agricultural College and Research Institute, Killikulam during Purattasipattam (September - October) of 2017 to study the Influence of different organic manures on the growth and yield of baby corn. Baby corn G 5414 was used as test variety. The field trail was laid out in randomized block design and replicated thrice. Three different organic manures were used viz., farmyard manure, poultry manure and vermicompost with or without panchagavya as foliar spray. Significantly higher values of growth parameters were registered with application of 100% N through poultry manure and higher green cob and green fodder yield was obtained with the application of 100% N through poultry manure (10920 kg ha-1 and 29797 kg ha-1 respectively) and it is superior to the rest of treatments. Application of 100% N through poultry manure + 3% Panchagavya spray at vegetative and tasseling stage recorded higher green cob and green fodder yield (10418 kg ha-1 and 28636 kg ha-1 respectively). This was followed by the application of 50% N through farmyard manure + 50% N through poultry manure + 3% Panchagavya spray at vegetative and tasseling stage and application of 50% N through farmyard manure + 50% N through poultry manure which registered higher green cob and green fodder yield (10401 kg ha-1 and 28498 kg ha-1 respectively, 10354 kg ha-1 and 28389 kg ha-1 respectively). These treatments were on par with each other. Application of 100% N through poultry manure produced significantly higher growth and yield of baby corn when compared to the rest of combinations.&nbsp

    PHYSIOLOGICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL CHANGES ASSOCIATED WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF BROWN SPOT DISEASES IN RICE LEAVES

    The healthy and diseased leaves of twelve rice samples collected from six localand six improved cultivars, were assessed for physiological and biochemical changes duringbrown spot infection. The photosynthetic related parameters like chl a, chl b and carotenoidswere studied using spectrophotometry and changes in ionic composition like sodium,potassium, magnesium, calcium and iron were evaluated using flame photometry. The resultreveals reduction in calcium, potassium, iron, chl.'a', chl.'b' and total chlorophyll andincrease in magnesium, sodium, total soluble sugar and carotenoids contents after brown spotincidence. The study concludes that understanding of host-plant interaction for developing arelevant defense mechanism must be given priority and use of resistance cultivars by localgrowers is highly recommende
