    Wheat Crop Growth Monitoring using Multi-Spectral Vegetation Indices in Bhal Region, Gujarat State

    he applications of Remote Sensing techniques in the field of agriculture are wide and variedranging from crop discrimination, inventory, assessment and parameter retrieval and assessing long-termchanges and short-term characterization of the crop environment. The spectral crop profile development, asmonitored using Vegetations Indices derived using Multi-Spectral Remote Sensing data offers uniqueadvantages in crop identification and crop growth stage estimation. The analysis based on values of NormalizedDifference Vegetation Index (NDVI) at regular time interval provides useful information about various cropgrowth stages and performance of crop in a season. In the present study, Multi-date Landsat-8 data for the Rabicrop season from October-2017 to April-2018, covering Dholka and Dhandhuka Talukas in AhmedabadDistrict, was downloaded from https://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/. The spectral Vegetation Indices (VIs) namelyNormalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) and short-waveinfrared - Water Stress (SWIR - WSI) Index were generated using the NIR, RED and SWIR channel digitaldata. Field data was collected in the selected sample locations in the study area for identification of wheat andother competing crops grown during rabi season.Multi-date spectral indices of wheat & cotton were generated at different growth stages. The spectral profiles ofthese two crops indicate that the crops are well separated at different growth stages since their crop phenology isquite distinct. The Water Stress Index (WSI) and Normalized Difference Vegetation Indices (NDVI) resulted theexactly opposite profiles and their intersection points can also indicate about the spectral emergence andphysiological maturity stages of wheat crop. The study revealed that during normal crop season, the NDWIvalues were positive for both the crops throughout the growing season. The positive values of NDWI were dueto higher NIR-Channel reflectance than SWIR-channel, which indicates sufficient quantities of water in thevegetation canop

    Determination of Shape of Different Varieties of Raw Rice by Projection Method

    Paddy (orzya sativa L.) is the worlds most important food crop and is primary food source for overone third of the worlds population. The objectives were to analyse the shape of raw rice varieties in terms ofroundness roundness ratio and sphericity. Jirafull, sarna, komal, sonam, gurmarima, goraknath, ir36,mansuri, karhani, rambhog, which are the very common varieties of rice found, the shape of the raw rice wasmeasured using the projection method. Among the selected varieties roundness value of raw rice varies from0.45-0.71 for raw rice roundness is highest for jirafull and the lower for ir36. The value of roundness ratio ofraw rice varies from 0.034-0.557 for raw rice sphericity is highest for jirafull and lowest for ir36. The value ofsphericity of raw rice varies from 0.31-0.48. This study can be useful for designing of various types ofprocessing and handling device and equipment for rice

It affects not only the developing nations but also to thedeveloped ones. Each and every year a huge amount of milk and money is spoiled throughmastitis. Moreover, it affects body condition of bovines and their udder health status is alsoadversely affected. Both milk yield and quality gets lowered. It is rightly said thatprevention is better than cure. Proper management conditions are like prevention for themastitis. There are several and easy management strategies through which unwantedconditions in the farm may be eliminated.     Constraints to Use of Social Media in Accessing Agricultural Information among Crop Farmers in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State, Nigeria

    The study was conducted to ascertain constraints to use of social media in accessingagricultural information among crop farmers in Makurdi Local Government Area of BenueState, Nigeria. Simple random sampling technique was used to select a sample size of onehundred and twenty respondents. Primary data were collected using a structuredquestionnaire. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage and mean scores as well asinferential statistics which include factor analysis and logistic regression were used for dataanalysis. Findings revealed that the mean age of the farmers was 35years, 57.5% were male,62.5% were married while 70.8% had formal education with a mean farming experience ofabout 9 years. All (100%) the respondents indicated that mobile phone was available to them,67.5% indicated availability of desktop computer while laptop was available to 65.8% of them.Results also showed benefits of use of social media to include enriched medium of accessingagricultural information (x= 2.37), easy and convenient way of communicating with fellowfarmers (x=1.89), encourage peer learning (x =1.89) and promotion of active participation inextension programmes (x= 1.75). Results of factor analysis showed that the respondents wereconstrained by techno-infrastructural and knowledge-related factors. It was thereforerecommended that government should provide and ensure regular supply of physicalinfrastructure such as electricity in order to encourage the use of social media in accessingagricultural information for increased productivit

    A Stochastic Frontier Modeling of Boro Rice Farmers in Bogura District of Bangladesh

    Due to its importance in the agricultural area, technical efficiency has enhanced in this study to recognize the contributionof the assigned factors of the farmers of Bogura district, Bangladesh following multistage sampling technique. Toaccomplish its goals stochastic frontier model exploits using authors surveyed cross-section data of 98 farmers collected in2017-2018 cropping year. The maximum likelihood estimate of parameters and the efficiency scores of individual farmersare calculated using stochastic frontier approach. Although the model captures the mean efficiency, 0.803 it is evident thatmaximum 45.93% farmers belong to the efficiency group 80-90 percent and 18.37% belong to the groups, 60-70 and 70-80.Besides these, 15.30% farmers expose to the efficiency group greater than or equals to 90 and rest 1.02% farmers to thegroup less than 60. Furthermore negatively skewed pattern of the farmers’ technical efficiencies are observed by the densitycurves. The empirical evidence suggests that the production frontiers of seed cost and irrigation cost is positive andstatistically significant for Bogura district indicating that an increase of these variables could increase Boro production.Thus it is recommended that Boro farmers need to take care about seed and irrigation cost as well as their systems toimprove the production which could be an important message for the marginal farmers and concerning authorities for thebetterment of the food reservation of the country

    In Banana production India has first rank in the world. In agriculture, the production of fruits andvegetables are of so vital importance that it provide three to four time more income than cereals per unit of land.The fruit crops hold a great promise for accelerating income of the farmers. Realizing the importance of fruitcultivation many farmers are diverting their resources towards plantation of fruit crops. Area under fruit crops is,therefore, increasing day by day. Banana could be considered as poor man’s apple and it is available throughoutthe year unlike seasonal availability of other fruits. Tamil Nadu state rank in banana production in India is firstwhere area is 113.7 thousand hectare and production is 5136.2 thousand M.T. the banana in the state has beenreportedly being cultivated under traditional manner (NHB, 2018-19). By and large, the farmers are cultivatingonly the traditional varieties of banana. The profitability of the banana products has not been quite substantial.The profitability of banana production depends upon the income generating capacity and cost structure of theenterprises. However, much information is not available on the economic aspect of banana cultivation at microlevel. Hence a study encompassing the above-mentioned issues is a felt need and it is quite justified in taking upsuch a study.     SOCIO ECONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ADOPTERS OF SPRINKLER IRRIGATION SYSTEM OF SRIKAKULAM DISTRICT OF ANDHRA PRADESH

    The present study was undertaken in Srikakulam district Andhra Pradeshpurposively. Only few of the farmers have sprinkler irrigation system in different crops in thisdistrict. Six villages were selected purposively from this district on the basis of higher number offarmers having sprinkler irrigation system. Thus, total 6 villages were selected. From eachselected village, 10 farmers were selected randomly making a sample of 60 beneficiaries and 60non beneficiaries’ total 120 respondents. 23.33% of beneficiaries possess 2 farm material and(28.33%) of non-beneficiaries possess 2 farm materials. Half (50%) of beneficiaries source ofirrigation is other type except bore well, river, canal and pond and (33.33%) ofnon-beneficiaries source of irrigation is bore well. 33% of beneficiaries have medium level oflivestock category and (48.33%) of non-beneficiaries has belongs to livestock category

    The study was conducted in role performance of gram panchayat members in agriculturaldevelopment in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. The analysis showed that the most important constraintaccording to the gram panchayat members were ‘Ground water level going down day by day’ secured 1st rankwith Mean Percent Score of 86.99, followed by ‘Unavailability of improved seeds and other inputs in the villageitself’ (85.32), ‘Lack of training’ (83.64), ‘Due to personal work there is less time for agriculturaldevelopmental work’ (80.53), ‘Low support prices for cereal crops’ (76.46), ‘Lack of finance’ (74.64), ‘Noninvolvement of women members in panchayat meetings and disregarding the view-point of those who attend’(72.30), ‘Lack of co-operation from officials in providing loan to the poor people’ (68.79).&nbsp
