    Effect of Arbuscular Mycorrhiza and Fly Ash Amendment in Red Lateritic Soil to Compare the Chilli Growth

    Application of fly ash with soil may act as a source of readily available micro and macronutrients to the plants and improve physico-chemical and biological properties of the soil. In contrast lateriticsoil is low fertile, deficient in available phosphorus and other nutrients to the plants. In the experimentCapsicum annuum (chilli) were grown as test crops planted in lateritic soil and fly ash separately, and in thecombined mixture of them, with inoculation of the arbuscular mycorrhiza, Acaulospora delicata. Parameterswere compared for AM spore count, root colonization, growth and productivity of chilli in term of height, leafnumber, leaf area, root collar dimeter, number of flowers and fruits, fresh weight and dry weight. Among allsoil samples the growth of chilli showed maximum in combined mixture of lateritic soil and fly ashinoculated with the AM. Also the combined treatment of AM inoculated lateritic soil and fly ash showedbetter mycorrhization than others. Hence application of AM inoculated low fertile soil with fly ash maypresent better productivity

    Effect of Irrigation Levels and Plastic Mulch on Summer Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench.)

    An experiment was conducted to study the effect of irrigation levels and plastic mulch on okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.Moench.) during summer season in 2017 at Instructional Farm, CAET, JAU, Junagadh. The effect of four drip irrigationlevels viz.; 1.0 ETc (I1), 0.8 ETc (I2), 0.6 ETc (I3) and 0.4 ETc (I4) in conjunction with three mulch conditions; silver blackplastic mulch (M1), black plastic mulch (M2) and no mulch (M3) were studied on growth and yield response of okra. Theexperiment was laid out in split plot design taking twelve treatments replicated thrice with mulching as the main plot factorand irrigation levels as the subplot factor. Results of the study indicated that irrigation levels and mulching significantlyinfluenced weed intensity, dry weight of weed, plant height, no. of fruits per plant, weight of fruits per plant and yield perhectare as compared to drip alone. Weed parameters were recorded lowest in combination of 0.4 ETc with silver blackplastic mulch. The treatment combination of 0.8 ETc with silver black plastic mulch recorded maximum values of plantheight (69.13 cm), fruits per plant (26.60 nos), weight of fruits per plant (441.67 g), crop yield (22424.24 kg/ha) (174.92 %higher than no mulch treatment) and water use efficiency (57.59 kg/ha-mm). The treatment combination of 0.8 ETc dripirrigation level with silver black plastic mulch was found most economical and resulted in highest crop yield with bestwater use efficiency.&nbsp

    Gender Roles in Cooking Energy-Related Tasks among Rural Households in Oji-River Local Government Area, Enugu State, Nigeria

    The study assessed gender roles in cooking energy-related tasks in Oji-River Local GovernmentArea (LGA) of Enugu State, Nigeria Data were collected from a sample size of 180 respondentsin 6 communities using questionnaire. Percentage, mean score and standard deviation were usedfor data analysis. Results of the study revealed that firewood (96.1%), palm fronds (83.9%) andpalm kernel shell (75.6%) and kerosene (83.3%) cooking energy sources were available in thestudy area. Findings confirmed that rural women were exclusively responsible for cooking offood (97.4%), child care (94.6%), energy sourcing/gathering (88.5%), carrying energy sourceshome on their heads (86.2%) and fetching of water (85.1%) while the men were responsible forcutting of tree branches/twigs (64.2%), farm work (56.3%) and sales/marketing of energysources (54.6%). Furthermore, the results demonstrated that procurement and consumption ofcooking energy sources leads to air pollution ( = 3.47), causes cataracts and blindness (eyeproblem) ( =3.05), leads to respiratory diseases ( =2.97), causes injuries and falls from trees (= 2.53) and could cause abortion ( =2.51).It is recommended that in order to reduce hardshipand health hazards associated with energy-related tasks rural, the respondents should beencouraged to consider using cleaner cooking energy sources which lessen drudgery andhardship and saves time involved in cooking and energy source procurement and utilization,reduces air pollution, improves ventilation and women‟s health.&nbsp

    Papaya (Carica papaya) is the third most important fruit crop in India next to mango& banana. Papaya belongs to the genus Carica of the family Caricaceae with 48 species of all thespecies Carica papaya L. is the most important and best known. It is cultivated all over theworld. The original home of papaya is Tropical America. It has been reviewed by Schroeder(1958), where archaeological, historical and biological information have been used to pin pointthe possible origin of papaya (Singh, 1990). The design of the study is aprerequisite for any scientific investigation, so this chapter seals with the material and methodsadopted for conducting the present study. The present research had been taken up in Lucknowdistrict of Uttar Pradesh.     Effect of Incorporation of Moringa Leaf Meal at Varying Levels on Serum Biochemical Profile in Japanese Quail Diets

    An experiment was conducted to study the effect of moringa leaf meal (MLM) at varying levels in the diet of quails onserum biochemical profile. One hundred and fifty day old quail chicks were randomly allotted into 5 experiment groups(T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5) each with 3 replicates of 10 chicks. MLM was incorporated at 0, 1.5, 3.0, 4.5 and 6.0% levels,respectively, in the different experimental groups. All the diets formulated were iso-caloric and iso-nitrogenous. At the endof the experiment, blood was collected from 2 birds/ replicate, thus a total of 30 birds and serum was separated. Resultsrevealed that the albumin, calcium and phosphorus contents were increased (p<0.05), while glucose decreased (p<0.01)with increase in the level of MLM for 0 to 6.0 % in the diet. And the values for total protein and globulin increased(p>0.05), while triglycerides, total cholesterol and creatinine decreased (p>0.05) with linear increase of MLM in quaildiets. Further, increase (p<0.05) in HDL Cholesterol level and decrease (p>0.05) in LDL and VLDL Cholesterol levelswere recorded in serum with increased level of inclusion of MLM from 0 to 6.0 % in the diet. The present study indicatedthat moringa leaf meal can be included up to 6.0 % level in the diet of quails for production of low cholesterol meat withoutany adverse effects on production performance

    ANALYSIS OF LAND DEGRADATION IN GANYE LOCAL GOVERNMENT OF ADAMAWA STATE, NIGERIA

    Land degradation is the consequence of important processes active in arid and semi-arid ecosystem,where water is the original limiting factor in execution of land practice and management. The research studyidentified and mapped degraded areas in Ganye local government from the land use and land cover maps of1986, 1996, 2006 and 2016 (Landsat ETM). Satellite images were processed and classified into five different landuse classes. Extend of area coverage of degraded areas were obtained from the land use land cover classification.The result obtained showed the area extend of degradation, agricultural lands continued to expand, urban/builtup areas continue to increase. The rich vegetation cover continued to decline as a result of anthropogenicactivities. The water surfaces area decline as a result of draught and erratic rainfall, while bare surface areascontinued to increase which shows that land is being degraded. It recommends campaign awareness todiscourage bush burning and planting of cover crops

    Knowledge of Farmers about ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Tools in Bilaspur District, Chhattisgarh

    The study was conducted in CHHATTISGARH state during the year 2019-20 to assess theknowledge of farmers about ICT tools in farm communication and to find out the relationship with socioeconomic characteristics of farmers using these tools. Many farmers of these districts are already gettingMulti Message Services (MMS) and using other ICT tools. Total 120 farmers were randomlyselected from the 2 villages i.e. Birkona and Biranpur from Bilha block of Bilaspur district. The ex-postfacto research design was used for the study. The findings of the study revealed that 37.50 per centof the farmers had medium level of knowledge about ICT tools followed by high (34.17%) and low(28.33%) level of knowledge. Variables such as material possession, social participation, extensionparticipation, mass media exposure and cosmo-politeness had positive and significant relationshipwith knowledge of farmers about ICT tools at one per cent level of significance whereas; educationand annual income had positive and significant relationship at five percent level of significance

    Antagonistic Potential of Trichoderma spp., Botanicals and Fungicides against Alternaria solani Causing Early Blight of Tomato in-vitro Conditions

    The tomato is the edible, often red berry of the plant Solanum lycopersicum, commonly known as a tomato plant. Thespecies originated in western South America and Central America. The area under tomato cultivation in Manipur accountsfor about 0.15 million hectares with an average production of 2.10 million tonnes and productivity of 12.02 tonnes ha-1during 2016-17. The major constraints in production of tomato are biotic and abiotic stress. Among the biotic stress Earlyblight caused by Alternaria solani inflicts tremendous losses to the crop. The present research was carried out to study invitro evaluations of native Trichoderma spp., botanicals and fungicides against Alternaria solani causing Early blight oftomato which induces losses in Manipur. Food poison technique and Dual culture were aided in this investigation. Theinvestigated results revealed that among bio control agents tested Mix (Trichoderma asperellum + Trichodermaharzianum), Trichoderma viride and Trichoderma asperellum effectively controlled mycelial growth of the pathogen by74.92% and 73% respectively. Botanicals used in this study significantly inhibited the growth of the fungus, among whichgarlic (Allium sativum) gave the best results by showing 74.17% of inhibition at 10% concentration followed by garlic 5%and ginger 10% showed 66.98 to 61.05% inhibition, among fungicides Propiconazole 13.9% + Difenoconazole 13% gavethe best results by showing of 100% inhibition at 0.1% concentrations.&nbsp

    Knowledge and Attitude of Cucumber Growers in Janjgir Champa District of Chhattisgarh

    Cucumber (Cucumis sativas L.) is of the most important vegetable cum salad cropsgrown throughout the world, belongs to the family Cucurbitaceae. In India the total productionof vegetables is 169.1 million metric tonnes in that cucumber has 1,050.10 tonnes hectare(National Horticulture Board). Janjigir District consists of 9 blocks, one block was selected onthe basis of highest cultivation area under cucumber, jaijaipur block selected purposively for thepresent study. 120 cucumber growers were selected from 10 villages using proportionate randomsampling method. A well-structured pre tested interview schedule was used for the study. Thedata was analysed using cumulative frequency method, percentage analysis, correlation. Thestudy revealed that more than half of the farmers (54.16%) had medium level of knowledgefollowed by 33. 33 per cent high had high level knowledge. More than half of the farmers(58.33%) had medium level of Adoption followed by 33.33% per cent had high level of adoption.Multiple regression revealed that the variables namely Education, land holding, socialparticipation shows positive significance at 0.05 level relate to extent of adoption aboutcucumber growers. The major production constraints faced by the farmers were low price fortubers due to influctuations in price ( 93.33%) , shortage of labour (87.5%), Exploitation ofmiddleman (86.66%) were the major constraints faced by the cucumber constraints.&nbsp
