    Knowledge and Adoption Level of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Practices among Paddy Growers in Kathua District of Jammu and Kashmir

    Keeping in view the importance of integrated Pest Management in paddy, a study wasconducted in Kathua district of J&K with the objective to find out the knowledge level and adoption levelof IPM practices among paddy growers. Primary data were collected from 200 farmers from four blocksnamely Hiranagar, Ghagwal, Barnoti and Kathua using random sampling method. Partially structuredinterview schedule was used for data collection, using personal interview. The study revealed that thepaddy growers of selected area were not having proper knowledge about Integrated Pest managementPractices. They were familiar to cultural practices while they had poor knowledge about mechanical,biological and chemical practices regarding IPM. Therefore, their adoption level was also poor andlimited to cultural practices only. Findings also show a large gap between knowledge and adoption inrespect to IPM practices. The results suggest that paddy growers with more knowledge level of IPMpractices had more adoption level of IPM practice

    In Bihar movement of organic farming gaining support from farmers as well as consumers. Nowa day’s consumers are also becoming conscious about healthy and nutritious food. The farmersfrom different area also adopting some organic farming practices. Hence the present study wasundertaken to find out the adoption level of respondents towards organic vegetable productionpractices was conducted in Nawada block of nawada district. The 120 respondents were selectedfrom 6 villages of nawada district by proportionate random sampling method. The data werecollected by personal interview method with the help of pre-structured interview schedule. Thestudy revealed that majority of the respondents had medium level of socio-economic status. Italso revealed that theadoption level towards organic production practices was medium to highlevel respectively and this is a positive sign for increasing the awareness about organic vegetable(brinjal) production so as to provide the future generation a healthy and chemical free diet.&nbsp

    India has been predominantly an agriculture-based country and its economylargely depends upon agriculture since time immemorial. Developmental efforts over the lastfew decades have been doubtlessly strengthened our industrial base. However, agriculturecontinues to be the mainstay of our economy even today, as it occupies the central place inrural life. The contribution of agriculture towards country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP)was about 14.2 per cent in 2019-20 besides sector providing employment to 58.4 per cent ofthe work force. Banana plants are the largest plants on earth without a woody stem. Bananais the most delicious fruit used as subsidiary food. It is consumed as table purpose as well asculinary fruit, its leaves are universally used for serving meals in South India and choppedbanana stems are used as cattle feed. Some species of banana yield fibre, which is used formaking ropes. The tip of inflorescence is cooked as a vegetable in some places. It is used asraw material in industries for preparation of banana powder, chips, juices and beer. The juiceof banana stem is used in making paper bond, tissue paper etc. The design of the study is aprerequisite for any scientific investigation, so this chapter seals with the material andmethods adopted for conducting the present study. The present research had been taken up inLucknow district of Uttar Pradesh. The details regarding methodology adopted in selectionof location, methods of data collection in the selection of the samples, the nature and sourceof data, and the various statistical analytical tools and techniques employed in achieving theobjectives of the study.&nbsp

    Importance of water for dairy animals is known since immortal time. These days, availabilityof quality water for dairy animals in many parts of the world has become a challenge. Water isconsidered as most important nutrient for dairy animals and should be given priority. It is used fordrinking, feeding, cleaning, and many other dairy farm operations. Water intake is affected by severalfactors like production levels, body weight, dry matter of feed offered, mineral contents, ambienttemperature, etc. Apart from these aspects water intake, now days, can be used to predict milk yield, drymatter intake, daily gain and even oestrus level too. Restricting water intake may affect drinkingbehavior of cows. These days, advance systems are used to measure the accurate amount of waterintake by the dairy cows so that other related aspects could be studied more effectively. Effective studyof water consumption under different physiological states of dairy animals may help in understandingdairy production in a better way. This article aims to enlighten new horizons of water intake for dairyanimals which may help in effective and progressive ways to create easiness in animal welfare andfarm operations.&nbsp

    Impact of Organic and Inorganic Sources of Nitrogen on Growth Phenology, Yield and Quality of Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

    A field experiment was conducted at Agronomy Research Farm of CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisarduring Rabi season of 2017-18 and 2018-19 to study the impact of integrated nutrient management on growth phenology,yield and quality of wheat. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications consisting often treatments combinations i.e. T1-Control; T2-100% recommended dose of nitrogen (RDN) + 25% N through FYM; T3-100% RDN + 25% N through vermicompost; T4-75% RDN + 25% N through FYM; T5-75% RDN + 25% N throughvermicompost; T6-50% RDN + 50% N through FYM, T7-50% RDN + 50% N through vermicompost; T8-25% RDN +75% N through FYM; T9-25% RDN + 75% N through vermicompost and T10-100% RDN . Treatment T3 (100% RDN +25% N through vermicompost) has taken significantly higher number of days to 50% heading (94.67 and 96.33), 50%anthesis (102.33 and 104.33) and to maturity (150.00 and 150.33) during both the consecutive years, respectively.Similarly T3 had significantly higher grain yield (5654 and 5798 kg/ha), hectoliter weight (82.50 and 83.35 kg/hl), grainappearance score (7.81 and 7.93 scale/10) and protein content (11.94 and 12.31%) of wheat during both the consecutiveyears, respectivel

    A field experiment was conducted entitled “Effect of methods of crop establishment and phosphorusfertilization on mungbean (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek) during (August-October) of 2017 at Research Farm of AfghanistanNational Agriculture Science and Technology University (ANASTU), Kandahar, Afghanistan. The experiment was laid outin a split plot design with seven treatment combinations, i.e. main plots as three crop establishment methods (Flatbedbroadcast planting, raised bed planting and Flatbed row sowing) and four phosphorus application rates (0,45,60 and 75 kgP2O5). The experimental findings indicated that the growth attributes, plant height (cm) (41.9), number of branch plant-1(4.8),dry matter accumulation(g/m2) (481.5), root dry weight (g) plant-1(1.53), leaf area index (3.56) and yield, i.e. grain yield(1,424 t/ha), stover yield (4,203 t/ha), biological yield (5,627 t/ha) and harvest index (24.8%) were significantly enhanceddue to raised bed plating method along with application of 75 kg P2O5, whereas the minimum growth attributes and yield wasobtained in the plots cultivated as flatbed broadcast planting method with no phosphorus application level

    Knowledge of the Farmers towards Adoption of Recommended Jute Production Practices in Kishanganj District of Bihar

    The research was conducted in Kochadhaman block of Kishanganj district of Bihar. Thepurpose of the study was to assist the Socio-economic profile of the Jute growers and the knowledgeregarding the recommended Jute production practices. Kochadhaman block was purposely selected due tomaximum production of June in this block. Ten villages were randomly selected from the block and 120respondents were selected from twelve villages which were selected randomly. The results shows thatmajority of the respondents were from medium level of progressiveness, medium level of risk bearingcapacity, it was found that majority (50.84%) of the respondent belongs to low level of socio-economicstatus, followed by 40.83 per cent and 08.33 per cent respondents belongs to medium and high Level ofsocio-economic status respectively. Majority (55.84%) of the respondent has medium Level of knowledge,followed by 28.33 per cent respondents has low and remaining 15.83 per cent of respondents has highlevel of knowledge. It was found that respondents were having high knowledge in land preparation,sowing time, harvesting methods, retting process, fiber extraction and marketing, medium knowledge inimprove varieties, seed rate, depth of sowing, NPK ratio, FYM application, Irrigation management, insectpest control measures. It was found positive correlation between annual income, education,progressiveness with knowledge of the respondents
