    Advancements in Soil Nutrient Sensing for Real Time Nutrient Management based Recommendation System

    Rapid soil testing and site specific nutrient management are the keys to improve agriculturalproduction sustainably to feed the growing global population, which is projected to cross 9 billion bythe end of 2050. A number of soil nutrient sensors are being developed to meet the demand. Thispaper is focused on the various recent developments in the field of soil nutrient sensors and theirsensitivity for particular nutrients. The incorporation of these sensors to develop agriculture decisionsupport systems is also been discussed. It may be concluded that it is better to integrate a number ofsensors (optical and electrochemical) to obtain real time data on nutrient level in soil for a particularcropping season to provide the farmers with a real time report and support. Technologies to convertthe results into farmer friendly reports and databases to store the real-time data are also very muchessential. The entire study is summarized to have an idea of the development in the field of soilnutrient sensors globally in order to gain insights for the sustainable agricultural production indeveloping countries, such as India, where cost and population are the governing factor

    The tomato is the edible, often red berry of the plant Solanum lycopersicum, commonly known as a tomatoplant. The species originated in western South America and Central America. The area under tomatocultivation in Manipur accounts for about 0.15 million hectares with an average production of 2.10 milliontonnes and productivity of 12.02 tonnes ha-1during 2016-17. Present research was carried out to study theeffect of different culture media and pH on mycelia growth of Alternaria solani. Among seven culture mediathat were tested, the fungus grew best on Richards agar, OatMeal Agar and Coon’s media. The most suitablepH for growth of fungus was 6.0 and 7.0. Native Trichoderma spp. has good effect on controlling early blightof tomato in filed conditions.&nbsp

    The basic objective of this research is to study beneficiaries’ knowledge about MGNREGA inBapatla Mandal of Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh. MGNREGA aims to provide a steady source of incomeand livelihood security for the poo, vulnerable and marginalized. As the scheme assures 100 days guaranteedemployment to the rural por in order raise their standard of living and empower them economically, it hasbeen receiving variegated responses from different parts of the country. So, it felt necessary to study aboutthe knowledge of beneficiary respondents about MGNREGA. In this regard, a primary field study has beenconducted with 60 job card holders of MGNREGA regarding their insight on the programme whether itraised their standard of living and brought any changes in their financial aspects or not.     : Sericulture, the production of raw silk by means of raising caterpillars. Sericulture is ourimportant agro-based rural industry that helps our economy and generates higher income and employment.It is practiced in a wide range of agro-climatic regions like forests, hilly areas and plains. In fact, the recenttechnological advancements have made it possible to practice it on an intensive scale, mainly due toincreased profits obtained from it as compared to most of the crops and enterprises. Sericulture has a specialplace among the agro-based cottage industry of our country. The government of India initiated variousprogrammes to promote sericulture in the country, following which sericulture took a rapid slide towardsprogress, emerging as one of the most economically viable, small scale agro-based industries. Hence thepresent study was undertaken to find out the adoption level of the sericulture farmers towards improvedsericulture technology with respect to socio-economic profile of the farmers of Udalguri block of Udalguridistrict, Assam. The study revealed that most of the respondents (43.33%) had medium level of Adoptionfollowed by low (28.34%) and high (28.33%).&nbsp

    CARDBs have been assigned a vital role in agricultural development of ourcountry. It is through the branches of these banks that various programmes of the governmentare being implemented in the agricultural sector. The basic task of these banks is to developagriculture sector, which is the main occupation of the majority of people in our country and amajor contributor to national income. However, the PCARDBS in Kerala are passing throughits rough stage today. Many number of them are running at loss. The present study attempts toanalyse the performance of these banks by specially considering the loan utilisation patternand repayment behaviour of farmers who have availed loan from these bank. Data for thestudy was collected from sixty farmers who availed loan from Alathur PCARDB in Palakkaddistrict of Kerala and was subjected to analysis using the statistical tools such as percentageanalysis, indices and logistic regression analysis.&nbsp

    Knowledge of the Guava Growers about Recommended Production Practices in Kaurihar, District of Prayagraj (Allahabad), Uttar Pradesh

    The research was conducted in Kaurihar block of Prayagraj district of U.P. The purpose of thestudy was to assist the Socio-economic profile of the guava growers and the knowledge regarding therecommended guava production practices. Kaurihar block was purposely selected because of the maximumproduction. 20 villages were randomly selected from the block, 120 respondents were selected 6 from the eachvillage. The results shows that majority 49.17 per cent of the respondent belongs to Low Level of SocioEconomic Status, followed by 44.17 per cent and 06.66 per cent respondents belongs to Medium and HighLevel of Socio Economic Status respectively. Majority 67.50 per cent of the respondent has Medium Level ofKnowledge, followed by 26.67 per cent respondents has Low Level of Knowledge, and remaining 5.83 per centof respondents has High Level of Knowledge. Majority of the respondents were from Medium level ofProgressiveness, Medium level of Risk bearing Capacity and Low socio-economic status, the respondents werehaving high knowledge in Improved Variety, Packaging of produce and Marketing, Medium knowledge inIntercropping, High Density planting, Propagation method, Row-Row & Plant-plant distance, NPK ratio,Irrigation, Major Disease, Insect Pest and Pruning of plant, Low knowledge about Bahar treatment, DiseaseControl, Insecticides, Mulching, Training of Plant and Post-Harvest. Correlation between Socio-economicprofile and Knowledge of guava cultivation Risk bearing Capacity 0.899, Progressiveness 0.889 and Source ofInformation 0.792, shows Strong positive correlation.&nbsp

    STUDY ABOUT THE ATTITUDE OF FARMERS TOWARDS ICT (INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY) TOOLS

    The study was conducted in CHHATTISGARH state during the year 2019-20 to assess theattitude of farmers towards utilization of ICT tools in farm communication and to find out the relationshipwith socio-economic characteristics of farmers using these tools. Birkona and Biranpur villages were selectedrandomly from Bilha block of Bilaspur district. Most of the farmers of these districts are having access todifferent ICT tools and using both old and new ones. Among 120 farmers selected for the study, more thantwo-fifth (44.17%) of the farmers had favourable attitude towards ICT tools followed by 30.83 per cent hadleast favourable and 25.00 per cent had most favourable attitude. Variables such as education, land holding,annual income, economic motivation, risk orientation, scientific orientation and extension participation hadpositive and significant relationship with attitude of farmers towards ICT tools. Hence, it is high time preparethe farmers to use these ICT tools for their wellbeing through proper educational activities

    MAPPING OF GULLY AREAS USING GIS AND REMOTE SENSING IN PART OF MUBI SOUTH/MUBI NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

    Gully erosion is one of the most serious environmental problems in the world today, it threatens, the naturalenvironment. This study used Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing to study Gully erosion based onband ratio formula method. Quick Bird satellite image of 2015 was used as base map to delineate the boundary of thestudy area. LandSat TM of 2010 was used to generate gully erosion map of the study area, 100m steel tape was used tomeasure the width, depth and length of the gullies. Photographs were taken using digital camera. Database was createdand the photographs were link with table which enable simple query and analysis of the gullies in pictorial forms to bedone. The band ratio formula was carried out using ArcGis 10.0 software. The research findings indicated high erodedgullies are of high intensity and are bare lands whereas less eroded gullies are of less intensity and are low slope areas.The study recommends the use of GIS and Remote Sensing for efficient and effective management of gully erosion
