    ATTITUDE OF FARMERS TOWARDS THE ACTIVITIES OF PRIMARY AGRICULTURAL CO-OPERATIVE CREDIT SOCIETIES IN KOTTAYAM DISTRICT OF KERALA

    PACS were introduced in India to meet the credit needs of farmers. The studyhas been conducted to find out the attitude of beneficiaries and non- beneficiaries towards theworking of PACS and to find out the association between socio-economic profile and attitudeof respondents. A non- random sampling procedure has been used to draw a sample of 120respondents of which 60 were beneficiaries and 60 were non-beneficiaries, fromchanganassery taluk of Kottayam district, Kerala. The study revealed that more than two fifthof beneficiaries (41.67%) were having medium level of attitude followed by low (36.67%) tohigh level (21.67 %). Among the non- beneficiaries majority (58.33%) were having low level ofattitude followed by medium (31.67%) to high level (10%). It clearly shows that most of thefarmers are not satisfied with the working of PACS. Hence the officials should take immediateactions to improve the performance of PACS

    KNOWLEDGE OF THE BENEFICIARIES AND NON BENEFICIARIES TOWARDS ACTIVITIES OF KISAN CALL CENTERS

    Government and private organizations are engaged in providing knowledge basedinformation on agriculture to farmers through ICT based applications. It includes farmers portal andkisan call centers (KCCs). These portals are facilitating dissemination of information and advisories tofarmers. These portals, mobiles based platforms and kisan call services, can be integrated together todisseminate knowledge based information among farmers effectively. Kisan call centers is one of thebest sources to have two wave communications with the farmers and scientists at around the all overIndia with a toll free number providing services through the year. The extent of utilization of theseservices depends on the farmers attitude towards kisan call centers. The study revealed that most of therespondents (55.00%) had medium level of knowledge followed by low (13.33%) and high (31.66%) &respondents (68.33%) had medium level of attitude followed by high (20.00%) and low (11.66%)

The funding agencies selectthe project proposal based on the innovative ideas and research background of the scientist.Therefore, the measurement of the impact of these documents in the scientific community ismandatory. The present study focused on analyzing the impact of research output publishedby Professor Dr.M.Pandian, Plant breeder, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Tamil Nadu,India based on citations, and h index of his published documents. In this study, GoogleScholar and Scopus database used to collect the data up to the year 2020. According to theGoogle Scholar database, it was found that 413 citations of research documents published byresearchers from different places of the world cited his research papers, whereas Scopusshows 73 citations of documents. The papers published by this researcher would help inreceiving awards from different agencies at national and international level

    KNOWLEDGE AND ADOPTION OF PRODUCTION PRACTICES AMONG CHICKPEA GROWERS OF ANDHRA PRADESH

    India is the largest producer of pulses in the world. Pulses ensures food security with its rich sourceof protein. To feed the growing population of India, the production of pulses also need to be increased. Hence, inorder to improve the production and productivity of pulses, the knowledge and adoption level of pulse growersshould be learnt to understand the technological gap exists in between them. Among various pulse crops,chickpea has been widely cultivated. Thus, the knowledge and adoption level of production practices on chickpeaamong the chickpea growers of Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh was studied. Twelve villages from six mandals of threeblocks of Kurnool district constitute the 120 chickpea growers. The primary data were gathered with the help ofstructured interview schedule through persona interview during 2019-2020. The findings revealed that chickpeagrowers had medium level of knowledge and adoption of production practices of chickpea because of mediumlevel of innovative proneness, farm power and social participation. Hence, it was recommended to conducttraining programmes and awareness campaigns to improve the knowledge and adoption of various productionpractices, which in turn increase the production and productivity of chickpea.&nbsp

    Impact of Thermal, Agitation and Microwave Assisted Extraction Techniques on Ascorbic Acid Content of Red Beet (Beta vulgaris L)

    The processing techniques for food product incorporation or consumption, generally influencesthe stability of ascorbic acid, same is true for red beet, because ascorbic acid is a natural water-solublevitamin and highly sensitive to heat, light and air. The objective of the study was to investigate the influenceof extraction techniques viz., thermal, agitation assisted and microwave assisted extraction on ascorbic acidcontent of red beet using different solvent compositions like distil water, distil water with 0.5 % citric acid,20% ethanol, 20% ethanol with 0.5 % citric acid, 50% ethanol and 50% ethanol with 0.5 % citric acid.The impact of extraction techniques was evaluated on the basis of different temperatures (40, 50 and 60 oC),agitation speeds (150, 170 and 190 rpm) and microwave power levels (160, 320 and 480 W). WithSpectrophotometric results it was found that highest ascorbic acid content was in agitation assisted extractionas 104.0132 µg/g dry weight (DW) at 190 rpm in T5 sample (where 50 % ethanol used as solvent) followed by48.1247 µg/g DW in microwave assisted extraction in T6 (50% ethanol + 0.5% citric acid) and 20.4423 µg /gDW was obtained in thermal extraction at 40oC followed by 20.0757 at 60oC in T5 (where 50 % ethanol usedas solvent). The results indicate that solvent type and extraction methods significantly influenced ascorbicacid content extracted in the samples.&nbsp

    Biosolubilization of Different Nutrients by Trichoderma spp. and their Mechanisms Involved: A Review

    Trichoderma is an effective biocontrol agent. It uses different mechanisms to manage and control the spread of a disease by apathogen. This property of Trichoderma has been long known. Recently, there have been investigations into the mineralsolubilising ability of the bioagent and it has been shown to solubilise minerals like phosphorus, iron, copper, manganese, zincetc. which are essential for plant growth and development. As it is known, these elements are abundant in the soil but are mainlypresent in forms that cannot be taken up by the plants. Hence activities to increase the availability of these minerals are essentialfor the uptake by the plants, which is possible through the activity of soil microorganisms and plant roots in the rhizosphere.Here, we have made an attempt to summarise the mechanisms, that Trichoderma spp. use in order to solubilize these mineralsand hence increase their bioavailability.&nbsp

    Dairy cattle are important part of the livestock sector in India. It is well known that thethermal environment has an integral role in maintaining the health and productivity of cattle.Climate is one of the most important factors in animal adaptation to its surrounding environmentand variation in climatic variables such as temperature, humidity, air movement, photoperiod,and solar radiation may impose stress on the productive and reproductive performance traits ofanimals. According to World Health Organization, World Meteorological Organization and theUnited Nations Environmental Program, global warming would be a greater frequency andgreater duration of exposure to hotter temperatures, especially during the summer months.Because of the climate change effects, summer temperatures have been increasing worldwideand this trend will continue in near future also. Among the livestock, dairy animals are likely tobe impacted greatly by the effects of climate change. The IPCC (2007) predicts that by 2100 theincrease in global average surface temperature may be between 1.8°C to 4.0°C. India alsoexperiencing increased average temperatures and humidity, and more hot spells recently. Heatstress due to high ambient temperature and humidity elicits harmful effect on growth, productionand reproduction of farm animals. Typical hyperthermia sometimes occurs during severe heat insummer and as a result of hard expose to sun throughout the world.&nbsp

The major coffee production in Kerala is from Wayanaddistrict. However, there are many challenges faced by coffee growers in Wayanad. Hence the study aims to evaluating thevarious challenges faced by coffee growers of Kaniyambetta panchayat of Wayanad district, which is the 2nd highest coffeeproducing panchayat of Wayanad. The study found that the major problems of coffee growers were related with productionand harvesting.
