    Evaluation of Perfect Microsatellites in Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) Genome

    Microsatellites or simple sequence repeats (SSRs) consist of a sizable part of genomes and play a crucial role in the function of genes and the organization of the genome. The complete availability of a genome sequence for Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) provides the possibility of accomplishing a genome-wide analysis of SSRs in this species. I analyzed the abundance and density of perfect SSRs in the Nile tilapia genome and observed a sum of 252,047 microsatellites with 1–6 bp nucleotide motifs. This indicates that about 2.7 % of the Nile tilapia whole genome sequence (927.77Mb) is made up of perfect SSRs, with an average length of 135.68bp/Mb. The average density and frequency of perfect SSRs were 271.69 loci/Mb and 5834.46 bp/Mb, respectively. The six classes of perfect SSRs proportional distribution within the Nile tilapia genome were not even. Dinucleotide repeats (40.13 %) with a total count of 101145 of an average length of 26.11 bp happen to be the most abundant class of SSRs, while the percentages of mononucleotide, trinucleotide, tetranucleotide, pentanucleotide, and hexanucleotide repeats was 31.88 %, 11.98 %, 11.52 %, 4.22 %, and 0.26 %, accordingly. The various classes of SSRs repeat differ in their number of repeats with the highest being 95. My results indicate that 21 motifs contain the prevalent categories with a frequency above 1 locus/Mb: A, AAC, AAG, AATAG, AATTC, AC, AG, AGAT, AT, ATCT, ATG, ATGG, ATT, ATTT, C, CCT, CTG, CTTT, GT,  GTTT.&nbsp

    Interactive Effects of Cd and NaCl on Growth and Mineral Nutrition in Hordeum vulgare L. (Var. Raihane)

    In this work, we investigated the combined effect of salt and cadmium on plant nutrition and Cd accumulation in the most cultivated barley variety in Tunisia, Raihane. Seedling were hydroponically subjected to four different treatment: the control without salt and Cd, 50mM NaCl alone, 10µM Cd alone and to the combination of Cd (10 µM) and NaCl (50 mM) during 1 month. At the harvest, plant growth, Cd content in shoots and roots and tissue nutrient concentrations in shoots(Ca, Fe, Mn and Zn) were measured. 50 mM NaCl alone does not significantly affected the morphology and the biomass of plants. However, when subjected to 10 µM Cd alone, plants of barley were less developed and produced low biomass as compared to control ones. NaCl addition to the Cd-treated plants further reduces the development and biomass production.  With respect to nutrient acquisition results showed that NCl alone reduced Ca2+ and Fe2+ concentration in the shoots but not affected that of Zn and Mn. But Cd, applied alone or combined with NaCl disturbed all measured element concentration in the shoots. However, the addition of salt to the Cd-containing medium reduced significantly Cd accumulation in the roots and the shoots of plants. In conclusion, salt in the water irrigation is able to reduce Cd accumulation in this barley variety but it accentuated in the same time the toxic effect of this heavy metal in barley

    New Research on Sugarcane Production through Single Eye Bud Culture

    An experiment was conducted for two consecutive years at Main Sugarcane Research Station, IIMT University, Meerut, India during 201920  to 2020- 21  to study effect of inter and intra row spacing on growth, yield and quality of sugarcane by using single eye bud sets. It comprised total sixteen treatments of four inter row spacing viz., planting of single eye bud sets at 100 cm row spacing (R1), planting of single eye bud sets at 115 cm row spacing (R2), planting of single eye bud sets at 130 cm row spacing (R3) and planting of single eye bud sets at 155 cm row spacing (R4 ), planting of single eye bud sets at 50 cm (S1), planting of single eye bud sets at 65 cm intra row spacing (S2), planting of single eye bud sets at 80 cm intra row spacing (S3) and planting of single eye bud sets at 90 cm intra row spacing (S4) were evaluated in SPD with three replication. On the basis of pooled analysis, the growth attributes such as number of tillers at 90, 115, 185 days after planting and number of shoots at 245 days after planting and yield attributes such as millable cane height, cane girth, number of inter nodes per cane, average cane weight and number of millable canes were improved. The planting of single eye bud sets at 60 cm gave significantly superior cane yield at harvest than rest of treatments. On the basis of pooled results, it is concluded from the study that for getting higher yield of sugarcane crop can be achieved with 125 cm x 60 cm (R2S2) inter and intra row spacing, respectively through single eye bud sets under west uttarpradesh condition

    Self-incompatibility (SI) prevent self-fertilization in a few species of Poaceae, many of which are economically important foods, bioenergy energy and grasses. Your incompatibility ensures pollen diversity and genetic diversity but limits the ability to modify useful genetic diversity. In many domesticated plants it is possible to develop highly efficient homozygous parent lines, which facilitates the formation of more efficient F1 hybrids, a condition known as heterosis. The inability to fully exploit heterosis in transit grasses contributes to lower levels of development in breeding systems compared to breeding plants. However, SI can be overcome by eating grass to build harmonious communities. This generates interest in understanding the basics of selfadaptation (SC), its importance in reproductive techniques and its exploitation for plant development, especially in the context of F1 hybrid breeding

    Challenges and Opportunities in Genetic Improvement of Essential Oil-Bearing Damask Rose (Rosa damascena): A Review

    Damask rose cultivated for essential oil production mainly used in perfume industry. Due to the highly perishable flowers, post-harvest handling of the flowers prior to oil extraction would be considered as a key point in rose essential oil production. Besides its major application in aroma and cosmetic industries, rose essential oil has been reported with valuable pharmacological properties such as antibacterial, antioxidant, and cytotoxic activities. Plant breeders are being encouraged to develop new damask rose cultivars with improved oil content and higher flower yield qualities due to rising market demand. The aforementioned qualities can be improved using traditional breeding methods such as clonal selection and intra-specific hybridization. But, through the convention breeding method creation of genetic variation is time taking, and the preservation of the authentic scent and quality of the rose oil is very difficult. Recent breakthroughs in molecular-markers techniques, genomics, and transcriptomics, have resulted in large volumes of data being generated in damask rose. Several attempts have been undertaken to accelerate the breeding of R.damascena using molecular technologies. However, due to the species' high heterozygosity and polyploidy nature, translating the findings of such studies to practical breeding remains a significant challenge.     Review of Various Sources of Nutrient Management on Maize (Zea mays) under Maize and Mungbean (Vigna radiata L.) Intercropping System

     Experiment was conducted at Research Farm of Kisan (P.G.) College, Simbhaoli (Ghaziabad) during kharif seasons of 2020 and 2021. Fifteen treatment combinations consisting three cropping system viz. maize sole cropping, mung sole cropping and intercropping of maize and mung and five nutrient sources i.e. recommended doses of NPK (RDF). RDF + Farm Yard Marwure (FYM) 6t/h. RDF + Azospirillum" / Rhizobium. RDF + Phosphorus solubilizing bacteria and RDF- Farm Yard Manure (PYM)a Sub + Azospirillum Rhizobium + PSB were used in factorial RBD in four replications. Application of organic and biofertilisers over NPK increased the yield attributing characters and yield of maize. Highest yield attributing characters of maize was recorded with NPK+FYM A+P which ultimately resulted higher yield 29.67 and 32.22 q/ha during 2020 and 2021 respectively.&nbsp

    Instability and Seasonal Production Analysis of Oilseed Crops in India

    The study was conducted based on secondary data collected for the period covered span of 30 years from 1989-90 to 2018-19. The study includes analysis of all nine oilseed crops. The study concluded that more area, production and productivity of oilseeds were contributed by kharif season crops than compared to rabi season in the country. The variation in yield of oilseeds was mostly observed in kharif crops than compared to rabi crops. The sunflower, safflower, nigerseed and castor seed showed more fluctuation in area, whereas in production of all crops showed mild variation except sesamum and in productivity higher instability was noticed in soyabean, safflower and groundnut crops. As per the suggestions are concerned, only improving productivity of oilseeds is a better option rather than area in our country. Therefore research efforts may be concentrated on evolving and popularization of suitable yield increasing technology such as High Yielding Varieties, Biotic and Abiotic stress resistant varieties, instability in production and productivity was minimized by expansion of area under irrigation and large scale promotion of stabilization measures like crop insurance which can enhance the per unit production as well as stabilize the area and yield of oilseed crops

    Constraints Faced by the Vegetable Growers in Marketing of Vegetables and Suggestions to Overcome these Constraints

    This study was conducted in Dahanu and Palghar tahasils of Palghar district of Konkan region. The sample constituted of 120 vegetable growers from 10 villages. The respondents were interviewed with the help of specially designed schedule. The specific aspectwise study of marketing behaviour revealed the constraints such as fluctuation in market price, high commission charges, High cost of transportation, absence of storage facilities, lack of market information, Inadequate physical facilities in the market, prolonged transaction, faulty system of weighment, no grading facilities, illegal deduction while selling, lack of processing facilities and markets are far away are faced by the vegetable growers of the Palghar district and suggestions like providing access to market information, display of prices at each market place, fixing minimum price for the produce, fixing minimum labour charges, more procurement at nearby places, providing lodging and boarding facilities at market place, establishing separate market for major produce were provided to overcome the constraints faced.&nbsp
