    The Synthetic Style of Jameel Jalibi and the Context of Research and Criticism

    Dr. Jamil Jalbi (1929-2019), in his criticisms, has not only madetheoretical arguments on the subject of "Amalgam of Research and Criticism" but in practice laid the foundation for his critical theory "Amalgamative Style". The artistic style of his History of Urdu Literature (TARIKH-E-ADAB-E-URDU) can be described as the masterpiece of the creative amalgam of research, criticism, culture and linguistics. From this point of view, Jalbi's Criticisms is the most balanced form of two extremes of traditional research and criticism. Although he calls his style a "New Cri t icism" , i t would not be strange to cal l his style "a modern amalgamation". He has devised a new way of transcending the traditional style of Criticism in Urdu literature. Studying his criticisms, it turns out that his theoretical and applied criticism are incompatible. He considers research and criticism to be interdependent. Not only he promotes an amalgam  of research and criticism, he also emphasizes the integration of non-literary sciences. He believes that a critic should benefit from pure scientific and social studies. The more a critic studies, the more his critical insight will grow. In his view, the research process would be weak without critical awareness, and so would the criticism without meaningful research. He understands that it is important for a scholar to have a thorough knowledge of the Eastern and Western traditions. In fact, over time, even more  artistic aspects of Jalbi's Criticism may be revealed

This is the first complete english translation, explication, lexicon and translitration of Mirza Ghalib's Urdu Poetry in English. While translating Ghalib, Sarfraz Niazi has adopted much and more from Yousaf Hussain Khan's Urdu Ghazals of Ghalib but didnot mention in preface or elsewhere. In fact Taghazulis a term of poetry. Terms are the source of communication in differentlanguages. The style, diction, cadence, imagination, elegancy, inflection andspontaneity in poetry are the elements which increase the beauty of ghazal.Taghazul is not a genre of poetry. In fact it came from the combination ofpainful emotions and desire. It is very important in taghazul to summarizethe delicacy and expression of words. If we look at the history of Urdupoem, from the poets of Anjuman-e-Punjab to Halqa-Arbab-e-Zuaq thereare many important names, but there are two names known as the pillar ofUrdu poetry. These are "Iqbal" and "Faiz". Both poets had the status of pillarin Urdu poetry. Iqbal presented the color of taghazul in his poemsbeautifully. "Shikwa, Jwab-e-Shikwa, Khizar rah, Shama-o-Shair, MasjadQurtaba and Saqi Nama are his very significant poems. Faiz didn't lost theline of taghazul he also continued this method. "Manzar, Tanhai, Raqeeb sy,Aa jao Africa, Mujh sy Pahli c Muhabat mary Mehbob na mang and Shishuka koi Maseeha nhi" are Faiz's key poems.     Exploring the Invariant Core: An Analysis of Multiple Translations of a Selection from Iqbal’s Shikwah

    This paper is an attempt to explore the invariant core among thethree English translations of selected poetry from Iqbal’s Shikwah. Thestudy identifies that the complex nature of poetry makes it difficult for thetranslators to transfer the ST in terms of both content and form. Therefore,good poetry is translated not only once, but several times by differenttranslators with their different approaches and strategies. Accordingly,Iqbal’s Shikwah and Jawab -e- Shikwah is translated by three translators,including two foreign and one indigenous translator. This is a qualitativeresearch, and Viney and Darbelnet’s model of translational analysis wasused as it best suited the qualitative nature of the present research. Thestudy was delimited to the three selected translations of a stanza fromIqbal’s famous poem Shikwa rendered by the three translators Arbury,Singh, and Akhtar. The analysis of the translations has shown that inrendering the original text, the translators have used different proceduresand strategies which consequently resulted in various losses, specificallyin terms of form, however, the invariant core, which comprises both themeand tone, remains almost the same

    The study aims to determine the correlation between the employment of language and the decay of the Normative framework and degeneration of societal norms. It has been seen that irresponsible statements for politicking are generally picked up and hyped by the media. Further, the degradation of language and personal allegations put politics away from partisan political domain resulting into desensitisation of the society. This correlation of lousy language and desensitisation of the society has not been studied theoretically in Pakistan. The assessment, in this study, has been carried out in light of the parameters set out by the Theory of Desensitisation under a larger framework of General Agression Theory delineating that abnormal shifts to neo-normal if repeated with regular intervals. The study confines to two watershed years i.e, 1958 when Pakistan faced first constitutional breakdown and 2013 onwards resulting into polarisation. In order to analyse, a widely read newspaper selected that have been in circulation virtually all over Pakistan since its creation. The editorials, statements of political leaders, reporting of incidents have been studied precisely that determined the course of the political history of Pakistan and the fissures in the social texture of the country. It has been observed that the more such content is given coverage, the more society and polity gets desensitised. Moreover, publication of such content is incremental in nature, that is to say, it expands in terms of coverage and intensity as time goes by. The study concludes that desensitization has been growing over the years resulting into degeneration of the societal norms

    Shanul Haq Haqqee (15th September, 1917 - 11th October, 2005) was a versatile genius having multi-dimensional vision and knowledge. He was at a time great linguist, lexicographer, researcher, scholar, critic, translator, biographer, fiction writer, an acknowledged great poet, a story writer for children, humorist, copywriter and a publicist. His respected father Moulvi Ahteshamuddin was also a great lexicographer, poet, researcher and writer of great eminence. In his works his approach and vision had various angles and innovations. His writings in respect of credibility and correctness of language attained status of a certificate of perfection. During his honorary appointment in Urdu Development Board, Karachi, he served for many noble services which includes his lexicographic work on Urdu dictionary and issuance of quarterly "Urdu Nama".     A letter claims a position of a significant document. This articleintroduces Dr. Abdullah's fourteen unpublished letters, for the first time ever. These letters addressed to re-knowned researcher and established critic of Iqbal, Prof. Dr. Rafi-ud-Din Hashmi. These letters are a discourse between two scholars that circumfuses academic and literary discussions. At the end, the article comprises of explanatory notes regarding those fourteen letters. It would make the  discernment and connotations of these letters easily  comprehendable. Previously, these letters were remotely away from the very sight of literary circles. These letters would hold the pedestal of an impactful, substantial and historic allusion after the publication of this article
