Hydrogeothermal potentials of Rogozna mountain and possibility of their valorization
The subjects of this study are hydrogeothermal potentials of Rogozna mountain (Serbia) and possibility of their use. Thermo-mineral springs at the mountain's foothill are the leftovers from an intensive volcanic activity during the Tertiary. The most famous and the most valuable ones are the springs in Novopazarska Spa, Banjska and in the village of Vuca, with a number of springs yet to be examined. The hydrogeothermal potential of these springs is significant, with the total thermal power of 4.6 MWt and the thermal energy of 145.4 TJ/year, but these could be greatly enlarged through the additional investigation in the interior of Rogozna. It is believed that the primary reservoir lies at the approximate depth of 2 km and that the water temperature is about 120 degrees C. In the area of Rogozna mountain there are a lot of thermomineral springs (TM) with outlet temperature between 30 and 54 degrees C. The main goal of this study is to determine the thermo-mineral capacity and energy potential in the area of three spas. This study allows the hypothesis that thermo-mineral springs in the area of Rogozna mountain have large potential. The researched area of Rogozna mountain is insufficiently investigated geo-space, which is rich in thermo-mineral springs. Thermal sources in Rogozna mountain produce heat power of 4.6MWt or 1.4% of heat power given by all the sources in Serbia. The waters of these springs are solely used for balneological and recreational purposes. Yet they could successfully be used in warming and cooling the space, for greenhouses in fruit, vegetable and flower production. In the end, all geospatial data with the help of GIS advanced techniques were digitized and visualized
Implementation of Face Recognition Algorithm on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA)
The aim of this study is to implement an algorithm for face recognition, based on fast fourier transform (FFT), on the field programmable gate array (FPGA) chip. Implemented program included the initialization process of two single-IP-core ROM blocks, each with an image of a human face, which are sent to the real components of two-channel IP CoreFFT block. The result of classification could be displayed in the form of either a word "yes" or "no" on the seven-segment display or the information about the reference to the folder with the found match face. Due to the lack of memory on the chip, the results are discussed based on the results obtained by the simulation, whilst the implemented part of the system included displaying images on VGA monitor and result of the algorithm shown on seven-segment display or realized as a software solution in Matlab. The results show 79% accuracy and the advantage of presented system lies in the possibility of working with images in real time. The results obtained in this study can be a good starting point in the implementation of complex algorithms for face recognition using all the benefits that FPGAs offer
Urban System in Serbia-The Factor in the Planning of Balanced Regional Development
This paper analyzes the basic characteristics of Serbia's urban system after World War II. The term urban system is largely determined by the use and functioning of the space in which it exists. We used the methods common in urban geography, notably the Rank-Size Rule and the Law of the Primate City with the aim of identifying the basic regularities, as the first step in an in-depth study of an under-researched topic. The research seeks to contribute to explaining the causes of the previous and current situation in the national settlement network, as a prerequisite for planning the future organization of the settlement network. Our study, conducted in Serbia, finds polarization apparent in the prominent domination of the capital city in terms of population, and this is a key feature of Serbia's urban system. The current situation is the result of an intensive process of urbanization, but also of the establishment of new administrative boundaries after the disintegration of Yugoslavia. The study also seeks to suggest the most appropriate development model for Serbia's urban system that could help overcome the extreme population concentration in Belgrade and create a basis for organizing an optimal system of centers. Keeping in mind that uneven regional development is determined by the features of the urban system, polycentric development is a common model for overcoming extreme polarization on a global level
Noise: The disease of urban environments: Management and protection measures
Communal noise is the noise that comes from living together. It is the noise in the interior or exterior, whether in the working or living environment, spaces in public buildings or open public areas. The issue of communal noise has been partially resolved on paper by lows and by-lows on the permissible noise levels in the environment. However, the question is how much noise the community will tolerate, i.e, at what point citizens will start fighting noise. Numerous cities have signed strict regulations for reducing noise levels, both day and night, with a proposal for permitted limits. This paper presents commonly used methods for managing and protecting against the harmful effects of noise
The origin and development of Garden cities: An overview
An overview of Garden City development as well as its significance in urban planning, are given in this paper. The Garden City idea, which had a major role in the 20th century urbanism, was born in London. The author of this concept is Ebezener Howard who is considered a pioneer of modern urban planning
Geografske predstave o Balkanskom poluostrvu na karti istoka Svetog Jeronima
The paper analyzes the Map of East designed by St. Jerome (Eusebii Hieronymi), a Christian priest and confessor and one of the most knowledgeable people of his time (IV-V A.D.). The map focuses on the Balkan Peninsula, the Black Sea region, Asia Minor and Middle East. The schematic outline of the map reveals the contours of shores, islands, peninsulas and river flows. As typical of maps designed by medieval monks, the East is located on the upper side of the map and there is abundance of mythological biblical presentations. A great body of toponyms on the map suggests that St. Jerome had great geographical perception but his priority was the biblical context of the map not geographical accuracy. He originated from the Balkan Peninsula, the Roman province of Dalmatia, but having been a priest and the church leader he was more interested in locations of ancient and biblical myths, places visited by St. Paul and historical sites from where the early Christianity had spread. By interpreting toponyms, the paper analyzes the content and context of the map, and provides instructions for further reading and understanding. The analyzed toponyms refer to relief, islands, seas, rivers, regions and cities. The interpretation of toponyms represents a scientific contribution to historical cartography and historical geography of the ancient Balkan Peninsula and Middle East.U ovom radu autor je analizirao Kartu Istoka čiji je autor Sveti Jeronim (Eusebii Hieronymi), jedan od crkvenih otaca i najobrazovanijih ljudi svoga doba (IV-V vek). Tumačenje toponima predstavlja naučni doprinos istorijskoj kartografiji i istorijskoj geografiji Balkanskog poluostrva i Bliskog istoka antičkog doba
Cooperation of the pre-service chemistry and geography teachers on an interdisciplinary lesson planning
The aim of this research was to examine the effects of a new platform for raising the pre-service chemistry and geography teachers' awareness of cooperation possibilities associated with the planning relevant interdisciplinary lesson. The research featured the participation of 16 students of the Faculty of Chemistry and 28 students of the Faculty of Geography of Belgrade University. Two workshops were conducted within the research. During the first workshop the participants worked in small groups on the tasks which served to strengthen their awareness on the relevant science education. The second workshop comprised the jointly planning the interdisciplinary lessons in groups with members of the pre-service teachers of both subjects. The participants' lesson plans contain goals that can be classified as those relevant for the individual and those relevant for society. Half of the lesson plans contained formulations of goals that can be assessed as relevant for certain professions. The activities planned for the attainment of the stated goals support an interdisciplinary approach, encompass the concepts envisaged by the chemistry and geography curricula, and the activities specific to these two subjects
Improvement of the relationship between environment and tourism: case study of the national park Djerdap in Serbia
The relationship between the environment and tourism can be perceived from several different aspects. The concept of sustainability and its principles are one of the most frequently analysed approaches and the motivational basis for visiting can show how much the protected nature and healthy environment matter to the tourists. Based on the internal motivators, we examined whether the tourism in Derdap is controlled, on a smaller scale, and qualitatively focused. A total of 484 respondents participated in the survey research. The comparison of attitudes was performed in relation to the demographic attributes of the respondents (gender, age, education). Target getups of tourists who prefer sustainable tourism have been identified. Sustainable tourism is a significant determinant in the further development of tourism in the protected area National Park Derdap. The results of the research, based on 12 statements, performed t-testing and one-factor variance analysis (ANOVA), show that the visitors 'greatest interests are related to the environment (natural as well as cultural value of the area). The researched motivational factors (new experiences and events, relaxation and rest, acquiring new knowledge - cultural and educational motivation) are based on sustainability. The results of this research can be applied in practice by implementing them through various management and marketing plans in the National Park Derdap
Megalopolis - Urban Phenomenon
The spatial and demographic city growth, as well as the increasing urban concentration, have called into question the classic notion of the city. Given that the city is a complex human phenomenon, it is increasingly difficult today to determine the boundaries of the city, i.e. the zones where one city ends and another city begins. So, the city and its surroundings make an interdependent functional and spatial whole. The consequence of such development of the cities in the 19th century and their suburbanisation in the 20th century directly implies the emergence of complex types of morphological urban regions, i.e. the formation of an urban phenomenon - the megalopolis, which has not been precisely defined to date
