GIS and geographical analysis of the main harbors in the world
This paper points out the possibilities of better exploitation of marine traffic as well as its connection with other kinds of traffic. Special attention is given to the analysis of 1,081 harbors about their availability during the year. The methods and algorithms used in GIS are buffers, cluster, method of interpolations, and network analysis. The methods used for the purpose of conducting numerical analyses are algorithms that served for the analysis of the network, its transport features, and the connectivity with harbors in terms of geospace. The main results found in this research showed that harbors have good connectivity in the first place with road traffic and after that with air and railroad traffic. According to data from 2019, all traffic lines cover 4.1 × 1015 km, and the road traffic has the most significant potential in connection with the harbors. The most connected harbors and airports are in the east coast of North America, west coast, north Europe, southern Europe, south-east Australia, a central part of Oceania, and south-east Africa. The results in the modified Likert scale between airports and harbors showed medium results. The densest road network is located in the eastern part of USA, western and central part of Europe, and east coast of China. The number of possible connected lines between main road nodes and harbors is 0.8 × 109. This type of traffic showed excellent results and connection with harbors. The number of possible connected lines per month between railroads and harbors is 1.3 × 103. This type of traffic showed low connectivity with the harbors. In the end comparison of harbors with air, road and railroad networks were established. The geographical position of harbors was analyzed, and better understanding was performed on a global scale
Intra-urban location of foreign and domestic knowledge-intensive business service firms in Belgrade
While it is widely acknowledged that foreign investments in knowledge-intensive business services (KIBS) play an important role in reshaping the economy and spatial structure of many postsocialist cities, there is a lack of research on their intra-urban locational behaviour, particularly in comparison with domestic investments in the same sector. This analysis is focused on the underlying factors that shape both foreign and domestic KIBS firms’ location choices in Belgrade, a city facing dynamic restructuring induced by the complexity of the postsocialist transition. For the modelling KIBS intra-urban location choices, this study uses disaggregated micro-geographic data on firms opened during 2011-2019 period. The findings suggest that domestic and foreign KIBS firms exhibit both similarities and differences in spatial behaviour. Firms from both groups are attracted by economies of localisation and commercial zones, while avoiding the densely populated areas in Belgrade. On the other hand, domestic KIBS firms are attracted by city’s main transportation arteries and the traditional CBD area, while foreign KIBS firms tend to agglomerate in the emerging new business district in New Belgrade, an area with plenty of new high-quality office buildings, high-status residential areas, good intra-urban accessibility and airport proximity. This study indicates that foreign KIBS firms produce a spatially bounded “global city zone” and raises a question about their local embeddedness and role in the development of the local economy
Supplementary material for the article: Dabović T, Pjanović B, Tošković O, Djordjević D, Lukić B. Experts’ Perception of the Key Drivers of Land-Use/Land-Cover Changes in Serbia from 1990 to 2012. Sustainability. 2021; 13(14):7771. https://doi.org/10.3390/su13147771
Negative trends in land use and land cover changes (LULCCs) are embodied in environmental, economic and social problems, keeping entire societies away from sustainable development goals (SDGs). This recognition incites a need for securing comprehensive and transdiciplinary knowledge on the complex interplay between LULCCs and their drivers. It should inform land use policy makers and produce adequate sustainable social responses. However, fragmentation in both academic and governmental arenas is an important impediment to the needed application of sustainability to land use policy. With this regard, the study offers a transdisciplinary, bottom-up and reproducible framework for understanding key drivers of LULCCs at the national/regional level where sustainable land use policies should be defined. Its main component is the repeated measure ANOVA of the experts’ survey data. The analysis allows aggregation of experts’ different disciplinary, professional and experiential perceptions and produces comparable results. It is tested in Serbia in three sub-periods during post-socialism. Main results confirm that LULCCs and drivers are complexly intertwined and need to be analysed within a comprehensive and transdisciplinary framework. Furthermore, the study should enable the transdisciplinary discussion, learning and knowledge coproduction that are required to inform land use policy makers about the needed trans-sectoral coproduction of policy responses towards SDGs.Supplementary material for: [https://doi.org/10.3390/su13147771]Related to published version: [http://gery.gef.bg.ac.rs/handle/123456789/1116
Urednici: Dejan Filipović, Velimir Šećerov, Dejan S. Application of GIS in the analysis of landslide and flash flood vulnerability on the example of Lužnica river basin
The application of GIS enables easier and more efficient spatial analysis, modelling of phenomena and processes, as well as predicting future events, and is especially important when investigating processes that degrade environment and endanger humans, other living beings and material goods. Landslides and flash floods are among the natural disasters that cause enormous consequences and often cause human casualties in the territory of the Republic of Serbia. In spite of this fact, for the most part of its territory vulnerability assessment zoning to these disasters was not carried out. The basin of Lužnica River, the right tributary of Vlasina River, is located in the southeast of Serbia, in one of the poorest parts of Serbia. The occurrence of the aforementioned disasters would further burden local communities, which is why a vulnerability analysis in order to reduce the risk is necessary. Using GIS, landslide and flash flood susceptibility zoning was carried out, and based on that, the vulnerability of settlements and road infrastructure was then analyzed. Very high landslide susceptibility was determined on 23.5% of the total basin area, while high landslide susceptibility have share of 20.5%. About 47.4% of the Lužnica River basin territory belongs to the classes of very high and high flash flood susceptibility. Territories of 19 settlements were determined to be of very high or high landslide vulnerability, and it is similar in the case of flash flood vulnerability. Almost 44% of total state roads length is in the very high and high landslide susceptibility classes, and almost all intersections between rivers and roads are considered to be in the class of very high and high flash flood vulnerability
Značaj prostornog planiranja za održivi razvoj turizma
Pojava masovnih turističkih kretanja i prezasićenosti turističkih destinacija dovodi do neophodnosti uključivanja koncepta održivosti u proces upravljanja destinacijom i planiranja njenog razvoja. Urednici: Dejan Filipović, Velimir Šećerov, Dejan S. Hydrological analysis of the September 2014 torrential floods of the Danube tributaries in the Eastern Serbia
Torrential flood as a rainfall precipitation driven natural hazard occurs in the watershed that responds within several hours due to a rugged topography. The extraordinary torrential flood event from September 15 2014 in the Eastern Serbia with its severe consequences, widespread material damages and casualties, draw an attention of the Serbian public and is a topic of this work. The combined method of Soil Conservation Service and synthetic unit triangular hydrograph is used to calculate the effective rainfall and peak discharges in five affected watersheds (Podvrska, Velika Kamenica, Slatinska, Zamna, and Mala Kamenica) in order to define the extremeness of this event. Special attention is given to the determination of the lag time defining the unit hydrograph and the curve numbers of the studied watersheds on the base of land use and hydrological class of soils with regard to geology, considering antecedent soil moisture conditions. Taking into account the high curve number (due to the high share of soils with an unfavorable hydrological conditions and high share of agriculture areas in land use), the shortest time to peak (due to the highest mean slope of river bed), the highest specific maximal discharge on subject date (4.58 m(3)s(-1) km(-2)) as well as sediment transport data, the highest priority for erosion and torrential flood control works is attributed to the Mala Kamenica watershed. The results of this work may be a significant contribution to the flood risk assessment on a watershed level in this part of Eastern Serbia that should always start with reviewing and analyzing the historical torrential flood events
Application of Angot Precipitation Index in the Assessment of Rainfall Eerosivity: Vojvodina Region case study (North Serbia)
The paper aims to provide an overview of the most important parameters (the occurrence,
frequency and magnitude) in Vojvodina Region (North Serbia). Monthly and annual mean precipitation
values in the period 1946–2014, for the 12 selected meteorological stations were used. Relevant parameters
(precipitation amounts, Angot precipitation index) were used as indicators of rainfall erosivity. Rainfall
erosivity index was calculated and classified throughout precipitation susceptibility classes liable of triggering
soil erosion. Precipitation trends were obtained and analysed by three different statistical approaches.
Results indicate that various susceptibility classes are identified within the observed period, with a higher
presence of very severe rainfall erosion in June and July. This study could have implications for mitigation
strategies oriented towards reduction of soil erosion by water
