Primena teorije polova razvoja- studija slučaja Srpsko Podunavlje
Urednici: Dejan Filipović, Velimir Šećerov, Dejan S. Application of GIS in selection of location for construction of nuclear power plants in Serbia
The use of nuclear energy in the world represents one of the main
alternatives to fossil fuels. Significant greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel
combustion could be replaced by cleaner energy such as nuclear. In this paper, by
using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), available databases and Analytic
hierarchy process (AHP), the results in the selection of the location for the
construction of nuclear power plants (NPP) in Serbia were obtained. The research
area includes zones between large rivers (Danube, Sava, Tisa, Velika Morava) with
an area of 8757.45 km². An analysis of natural (seismicity, geological background,
hypsometry, slope of the terrain, distance from faults, ground cover, land use
method) and anthropogenic conditions (distance from the state border, settlements,
roads and railways) was carried out, with the elimination of protected areas from
further research due to of its ecological significance. After multi-criteria analysis,
weighting coefficients were assigned for each criterion using the AHP method. The
results showed that 0.02% of the area is suitable, and 8.68% partially suitable for the
construction of nuclear power plants. This paper provides an adequate overview of
the most suitable locations for the use of nuclear energy, so that the obtained results
can be applied in further research by national services in charge of nuclear sciences
Shaping Sustainable Urban Environments by Addressing the Hydro-Meteorological Factors in Landslide Occurrence: Ciuperca Hill (Oradea, Romania)
Romania is one of the countries severely affected by numerous natural hazards, where landslides constitute a very common geomorphic hazard with strong economic and social impacts. The analyzed area, known as the "Ciuperca Hill", is located in Oradea (NW part of Romania) and it has experienced a number of landsliding events in previous years, which have endangered anthropogenic systems. Our investigation, focused on the main causal factors, determined that landslide events have rather complex components, reflected in the joint climatological characteristics, properties of the geological substrate, and human activity that further contributed to the intensive change of landscape and acceleration of slope instability. Analysis of daily precipitation displays the occurrence and intensive distribution between May and September. Higher values of rainfall erosivity (observed for the 2014-2017 period), are occurring between April and August. Erosivity density follows this pattern and indicates high intensity events from April until October. SPI index reveals the greater presence of various wet classes during the investigated period. Geological substrate has been found to be highly susceptible to erosion and landsliding when climatological conditions are suitable. Accelerated urbanization and reduced vegetation cover intensified slope instability. The authors implemented adequate remote-sensing techniques in order to monitor and assess the temporal changes in landslide events at local level. Potential solutions for preventative actions are given in order to introduce and conduct qualitative mitigation strategies for shaping sustainable urban environments. Results from this study could have implications for mitigation strategies at national, regional, county, and municipality levels, providing knowledge for the enhancement of geohazard prevention and appropriate response plans
Evaluation of Geo-sites in the Podrinje-Valjevo Mountains with Respect to Geo-tourism Development
The Podrinje-Valjevo Mountains (located in Western Serbia) constitute the longest mountain range in Serbia and possess numerous and diverse geo-heritage sites. In prior research, this region has been poorly investigated in terms of evaluating its geo-sites for geo-tourism potential. The aim of this paper is to evaluate and compare protected geo-sites in the Podrinje-Valjevo Mountains in order to determine their current state and potential for future geo-tourism development. This is done by applying the modified geo-site assessment model (M-GAM). Eight geo-sites were analysed and evaluated: Kovacevica Cave, Tresnjica Gorge, Taor Springs, Gradac Gorge, Crna River Gorge, Petnica Cave, Ribnica Gorge, and Ribnica Cave. The research results show the analysed geo-sites possess substantial geo-tourism development potential for making the Podrinje-Valjevo Mountains a geo-tourism destination. However, there is a lot of room for improvement of additional values such as promotion, tourist infrastructure, visitor centres, tour guide services, and interpretative panels. The results also show that there are certain differences between the evaluation of hydrological and speleological geo-sites within a region. Therefore, in order to comparatively analyse with maximum relevance, it is proposed to use the model to evaluate the same type of geo-sites
Experts’ Perception of the Key Drivers of Land-Use/Land-Cover Changes in Serbia from 1990 to 2012
Negative trends in land use and land cover changes (LULCCs) are embodied in environmental, economic and social problems, keeping entire societies away from sustainable development goals (SDGs). This recognition incites a need for securing comprehensive and transdiciplinary knowledge on the complex interplay between LULCCs and their drivers. It should inform land use policy makers and produce adequate sustainable social responses. However, fragmentation in both academic and governmental arenas is an important impediment to the needed application of sustainability to land use policy. With this regard, the study offers a transdisciplinary, bottom-up and reproducible framework for understanding key drivers of LULCCs at the national/regional level where sustainable land use policies should be defined. Its main component is the repeated measure ANOVA of the experts’ survey data. The analysis allows aggregation of experts’ different disciplinary, professional and experiential perceptions and produces comparable results. It is tested in Serbia in three sub-periods during post-socialism. Main results confirm that LULCCs and drivers are complexly intertwined and need to be analysed within a comprehensive and transdisciplinary framework. Furthermore, the study should enable the transdisciplinary discussion, learning and knowledge coproduction that are required to inform land use policy makers about the needed trans-sectoral coproduction of policy responses towards SDGs.Supplementary material: [http://gery.gef.bg.ac.rs/handle/123456789/1281
Urednici: Dejan Filipović, Velimir Šećerov, Dejan S. Efects of military geography problem based learning on cadets’ cognitive achievements
Problem based learning requires independent discovery of the problem solving process within the set problem situation using new previously acquired knowledge, experience and new information. The experiment established to what extent military geography problem based learning influences on the educational achievements of cadets in the field of military geographic space analysis. The research sample (N=110) consisted of two groups that studied through problem and traditional teaching. Differences in achievement after the control and final exam were proved by the ANOVA test, which showed that problem teaching has greater effects in the domain of understanding and application of knowledge, as opposed to acquiring factual knowledge where there is equality with traditional teaching. The results improved a military geography teaching practice and provide a basis for further research in area
