Comparative didactic and methodological analysis of the geography program for elementary school in Serbia and North Macedonia

    No full text
The beginning of the 21st century is characterised by a digital society in which it is no longer sufficient for an individual to be able to read, write and calculate in order to be considered educated. The development of new technologies, especially information and communication technologies, has changed people's lives dramatically. They have also had an impact on the education system. Pupils are expected to have computer and media skills, the ability to learn independently, think critically, solve problems, work in a team, be creative and take initiative. The didactic-methodical analysis of the Geog-raphy Program for elementary schools will determine the extent to which it is possible to contribute to the development of the aforementioned skills in pupils. Geography programs are designed in a special way in all countries of the world. The aim of the paper is to analyze the Geography Program for primary schools in Serbia and North Macedonia in order to observe their similarities and differences. The results of the research indicate a significant similarity in the planned learning outcomes in both countries, while deviations are observed in the order of the studied teaching topics by class.Editor: Blagoja Markosk

    No full text
Regional planning is exposed to various criticisms today due to its unclear position in the federal planning system, as well as incoherent methodology among other inconsistencies. Nonetheless, despite those critics, the importance and role of regional plans and/or strategies is indisputable, primarily in creating a base for directing development processes. Nowadays, regional planning is going through significant methodological changes as a reflection of overall changes in the planning doctrine, new geopolitical circumstances, and the effect of the "acceleration" of time. The modified perception of space as a global and dynamic environment, and the intensive application of advanced technologies in the planning process, cause the need for refitted methods and techniques in regional planning. Those updates will revive regional planning and make the decision-making process more transparent. This paper will focus on new technologies that are in application in some countries with advanced regional planning. The province of British Columbia in Canada is one of those countries. The regional district of Vancouver will be used to analyze the differences between traditional and contemporary concepts in regional planning through the application of advanced models in policy making.

Return migration at the beginning of the 21st century is an increasingly important topic in academic and public debates. The increased volume and intensity of return migration flows compared to previous periods has led to the need for a more systematic understanding of the characteristics of this process, including the process of reintegration as an integral part of it. As return migration mostly takes place between developed and developing countries, less developed countries have recognised return migrants as an important resource for overall development. In the Republic of Serbia, return migration represents one of the most intensive migration processes in recent decades. The aim of the dissertation is to analyse the characteristics of socio-geographical aspects (spatial, demographic, social, economic) of return migration in Serbia. The focus of the analysis is also on reintegration and the role of return migration in the development process. The research is based on the analysis and processing of census data and the results of field research conducted on the territory of four local self-government units in Serbia - City of Leskovac, City of Zaječar, City of Užice and City of Zrenjanin. It was found that returnees mainly return to the developed parts of the country, more often to urban settlements. Return migrants in Serbia predominantly are not economically active. It has been found that the characteristics of reintegration depend on various socio-demographic characteristics, the migration experience of returnees, the level of development of local self-governments and the type of settlements to which they return. The development potential of returnees is related to their individual competences, affinities, desires and opportunities to contribute to development, as well as their perceptions and the actual situation on the market

This paper investigates the problem of rapid urbanization and uncontrolled construction on Kopaonik mountain in Serbia. Kopaonik is known for its natural beauty and winter sports attractions, but in recent years, it has experienced a significant increase in urbanization. The paper analyzes the current state of urbanization in Kopaonik, including the increase in the number of building permits, the number of built buildings, and the increase in tourist capacities. Environmental challenges and infrastructural problems arising from rapid urbanization are also discussed. This paper also explores the dilemmas between the economic benefit brought by tourism and the need to preserve nature. The author investigates the views and concerns of citizens regarding urbanization through a survey. The survey results provide insight into different perspectives and dilemmas regarding this topic. Also, the role of the Kopaonik National Park and local authorities in controlling urbanization is considered. Kopaonik National Park emphasizes the need to stop further construction to preserve nature, while the local self-government of the municipality of Raška advocates controlled urbanization that will support the region's economic development. Through this analysis, the paper explores the key aspects of urbanization in Kopaonik, providing insight into the complexity of the challenges and the need for a balance between economic benefit and nature conservation in this beautiful mountain area

    No full text
This study presents the trend analysis for a specific category of variables, namely the average annual precipitation. The geospatial distribution of the obtained results in Central Serbia is visualized using Geographic Information System (GIS) numerical analysis. The primary objective of this study is to identify potential changes in the trends of average annual precipitation within the observed area. Methodologically, the Mann-Kendall trend test, trend equation, and trend magnitude were employed for trend analysis. The data used for the analysis were sourced from the Meteorological Yearbooks of the Republic Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia, encompassing a total of 24 meteorological stations and spanning the period from 1949 to 2018. Based on the obtained results, statistically significant positive trends were observed in 17 time series, favoring the alternative hypothesis. Conversely, a decline in precipitation was noted in the remaining 7 time series. Among the time series, the largest increases in the total amount of precipitation over the past 69 years were recorded ont he area of the Dinaric Mountains. Conversely, the lowest increase in average precipitation was observed in the central part od the country.Furthermore, the time series with the greatest decrease in average annual precipitation was recorded ont he southeastern part of the country. In order to effectively address water-related challenges associated with precipitation fluctuations, it is essential to gain a comprehensive understanding of the shifting trends in precipitation over the region of Central Serbia

Comparative Geomorphometric Analysis of Drainage Basin Using AW3D30 Model in ArcGIS and QGIS Environment: Case Study of the Ibar River Drainage Basin, Montenegro

    Get PDF
Geomorphometric analysis provides crucial insights into the hydrological characteristics by delineating the land-surface features of a drainage basin. The study focused on analyzing the geomorphometric parameters of the Montenegrin segment of the Ibar River drainage basin using the ALOS Global Digital Surface Model 30 m (AW3D30). Geomorphometric parameters, covering linear and areal parameters, were computed using standard mathematical formulas in LibreOffice Calc software and hydrology tools in commercial GIS software ArcGIS, as well as open-source software QGIS with SAGA GIS modules. Results reveal a dendritic pattern in the stream network, with an inverse relationship between stream length and order, and an elevated bifurcation ratio indicating heightened vulnerability to flooding, influenced by geological, geomorphological, and climatic factors. Furthermore, examination of diverse areal morphometric parameters, such as drainage density, stream frequency, form factor, circularity ratio, and elongation ratio, unveils the hydrological dynamics of the Ibar basin. This characterization illustrates the region as possessing high permeability and dense vegetation cover, suggesting vulnerability to erosion and consequent effects on water and sediment discharge. Additionally, this study underscores the significance of user-defined parameters in geomorphometric modeling, particularly in selecting algorithms within analysis software, which significantly impact drainage basin parameters

The Danube has a length of 588 km in the Republic of Serbia. The water transport on this river is underused. The hazardous events have a great impact on the traffic on this river, and the understanding of these events is of great importance. This study focuses on hazardous events on the Danube with the main focus on the port of Novi. The hazardous events used in this study are extreme air temperatures, devastating winds, drought, and heavy precipitation. The hazardous events were represented using geographic information systems (GIS), geostatistics, and numerical methods. The potential of the river transport network and the port capacity were analyzed and compared with the hazardous events of the last 30 years. The results showed that three areas of the port are of great importance for port security, and two areas are extremely affected by hazardous events. The distance of the port of Novi Sad from heavy precipitation events is 6.8 km in the southwestern direction. The periods of extremely low precipitation (climatic drought) were in 1994, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2019, and 2021. Extreme average maximum temperatures were in 1995, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2015, and 2019. On the other hand, minimum average temperatures were in 1994, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2017, and 2018, and the strongest winds were in 1995, 1998, 2003, 2009, 2012, and 2014. The methods and techniques of GIS, used in this research, have confirmed new potential geographical positions of the port that can be better adapted to future climate changes. Another main objective of this research is to recommend better spatial planning and construction of new green corridors
