Socioeconomic determinants of Banija as a problematic region
This paper represents the research of Banija as a problematic region. In
comparison to the other parts of the Croatia, Banija historically has been underdeveloped
region. However, the dissolution of SFR Yugoslavia and the conflict that
followed strongly disrupted the former course of development. The paper mainly
deals with researching demographic and economic (agriculture and industry) characteristics
and problems because they are the most pronounced and represent the
real socioeconomic status and essence of the problematic status of the region. There
are many comparisons of parameter values from the beginning of the 21st century to
values from 1991 because of significant differences best show the intensity of Banija
regression during a short period of time
Methodological basis of migration research in cultural geography in the case of refugees from Croatia in Serbia
This paper gives an overview of the demographic characteristics and the
position of the Serbs in Croatia. The emphasis is on the period between in 1991., and
2011. At the end of the detail exposed position of the Serbs in the Croatian society and
what are the demographic perspective. When comparing the data have been some
difficulties. Methodology 1991 census., and the 2001 census., and 2011th differ in terms
of the definition of resident population. The current territorial organization of Croatia is
different compared to the pre-war. Changed the boundaries almost all municipalities,
some cadastral communities, and was changed to a smaller number of placenames.
Some data is not available, so the comparison is missing
Polovi rasta i razvoja kao determinante prostorno - funkcionalne strukture regije Podrinje
During the second half of the twentieth century several theories and con¬cepts are defined. These theories at the center of their research put causes and consequences of uneven regional development. The growth poles theory is at the foundation of a broader conceptual circle of polarized development. Also, it represent a starting hypothesis for defining other theories. At the beginning of the second half of twentieth century a few growth poles were formed in Podrinje region. In the fifties, the primary growth pole - fabric for production of the cellulose and synthetic fibers 'Viskoza', and the secondary growth pole - hydropower plant 'Zvornik', were build. Also, there have been built a several smaller industrial facilities in Kru¬panj and Ljubovija, which have had a role of local growth poles. Their join action changed spacious, functional, demographic and economic structure of Podrinje region. Also, these growth poles created a new system of relation in space. Cities have become zones of extreme concentration of population and functions, thus increased uneven development between the centers (cities with suburban surroundings) and periphery (villages at the longer distances in lower zone of influence).Tokom druge polovine XX veka definisano je nekoliko teorija i koncepata koji u centar svojih istraživanja stavljaju uzroke nastanka i posledice neravnomernog regionalnog razvoja. Teorija polova rasta i razvoja nalazi se u osnovi šireg koncepcijskog kruga o polarizovanom razvoju. Takođe, predstavlja polaznu hipotezu za definisanje drugih teorija.
Contemporary world migration - towards new terminology, patterns and policies
In the last decades, after the Cold War and the fall of the Berlin wall, the strengthening of overall population mobility is evident on local, regional, national and global scale. In addition, there are changes in the scope and direction of migration, their structural characteristics and increasing in the number of determining factors and consequences, which affects the complexity of this phenomenon. It is important to point out the emergence of new forms of migration as a result of intensifying pace of globalization, which is an integral part of the migration. The total number of migrants in the world (internal and external) in the first decade of the XXI century reached the highest value in history and is around one billion, with small, but continuous increase in share of total population. This means that one in every seven person in the world has changed place of residence, either within their own country (about 700 million of internal migrants) or moved to another country (244 million international migrants). Therefore some authors points out that all of us are becoming migrants. Also, the number of irregular migrants recently has reached its highest amount, which implies an intensification of government actions to regulate migration through the creation of effective policies, spatial mobility and intensification of bilateral, regional and international negotiations in this domain. Estimates show that the number of migrants will continue to grow, especially the number of climate migrants, persons who left their homes due to changes in the environment. That is why it is of crucial importance in a first place to understand migrations properly and then to create the steps towards the best solutions in solving the problems caused by population movement in space and create proper migration policies
Volcanism of hot spots on the reunion as the example
Reunion (French.: La Reunion, formerly: Ile Bourbon) is beside the Mauritius the largest and the youngest island on the Mascarene Plateau in the Indian Ocean. The island is of volcanic origin, formed through volcanic activity initiated by deeply settled "hot spot" inside the Earth's mantle. It was formed within the last 2,000,000 years from lava effusions whose volume is up to now nearly 75,000 km(3). Only 3% of its volume is emergent and the total height from the sea floor is 6,500 m. The island is about 40 km in width with about 800,000 inhabitants. The capital city is St Denis. The nature of the island is impressive: active volcano, mountains above 3,000 m in height and deep canyon, frequently exceeding 2,000 m in depth. Since 2010, about 40% of its area is announced a National park and a UNESCO World Heritage site
Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) as the Basis for Local Forest Management. Example of the Municipality of Topola, Serbia
In this article we clearly showed that determination of spectral index of vegetation can be of great help in forest management, particularly on the regional and local levels. Forest detection technology based on remote sensing has advanced to a point where it surpasses all other types of wood detection techniques. The main goal of this paper is to present the results of the implementation of remote sensing in the analysis of forests in the municipality of Topola through the use of normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). With regard to the fact that vegetation in Serbia is increasingly destroyed, the authors of this paper would like to suggest application of a method that is based on interconnectivity of surface evaluation and analytical deciphering of remotely sensed images. Forests are clearly distinguished on images in terms of their borders, forms, and tonalities, which makes them easily noticeable even on the small images. The application of this method is not limited only to analysis of the current state of forests. It may also cover degraded forest areas and help in the detection of illegal timber harvesting. Hence it can serve as the basis for the much better future local forest management of Serbian municipalities, and can easily be applied to other Balkan countries that have similar situations in the sphere of local forest management
Identification and ecological aspects of large-scale brownfields in the republic of srpska
Large-scale brownfield sites are the most apparent brownfield category in the Republic of Srpska, and they are the most valuable asset when it comes to explaining this spatial phenomenon. Transition and armed conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina have caused, among other things, brownfield formation; a decline in industrial employment alongside a reduction in the size of the armed forced have further increased the number and total area of brownfields in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Srpska. Their ecological characteristics, as in other transitional countries, are largely responsible for the definition of brownfields, but they are not the most significant barrier to the revitalization of large-scale brownfield sites. The present paper will provide the methodology of large-scale brownfield identification as well as an accompanying distribution map of these sites in the Republic of Srpska
Parity of liveborh children in Serbia: pattern by educational level of women
This paper explores the pattern of parity of liveborn children with respect to the women's educational level. Cohort method of demographic analysis based on data from Census of Population and Households (2011) is used in this research. The analysis includes all women who were above reproductive age and those who aged between 40 and 49 years at the moment of conducting of the Census 2011. The indicators which are used in this analysis are: percent of childless, share of women by order of birth and probabilities of an increasing of family. The educational structure of women includes three modalities: low-educated, secondary-educated and high-educated women. Results show that pattern of parity of liveborn children has differed with regard to the women's educational level
Globalizacija i kulturni identitet
This paper aims to analyze an important phenomenon of our world, namely the contradictory relationship between globalization and cultural identity. Globalization is a multidimensional phenomenon that encompasses not only economic components but also cultural, ideological, political and other. Globalization in its archaic forms goes back to ancient history and roots linked to the emergence and spread of human society. The modem form reached in the second half of the 20th century, and the intensity and the culmination of the 80s and early 90s of the 20th century (the global age, postindustrial and postmodern age). Globalization is a complex process that integrates a number of factors whose interaction of globally achieved thanks to the expansion of knowledge, technologies and information across national borders. Impacts encourage globalization manifested in a series of changes in economic, political, social and especially cultural sphere, which is the subject of this paper. The concept of global values, commonly identified with the values of Western culture (americanization, westernization), and the effects of globalization is manifested through its effect on the national cultural forms. In literature and discussions amount to be different points of view the relation between globalization and culture, but the essence of the conflict based on opposing theses that reflect the "dual character" of cultural globalization. The first is a proponent of the negative impact of globalization on homogeneous national and local culture, while the other prefers diversity of cultural content, expressed through the cosmopolitan culture that does not negate the sense of national belonging. The authors in this paper analyze different interpretations of a complex relationship between culture and globalization and to emphasize the positive and negative effects arising from the relationships and connections between the global and the local.
Cultural tourism in the context of relations between mass and alternative tourism
In the initial stage of its development, cultural tourism represented one of the alternative forms of tourism, opposed to mass tourism. The beginning of the 1990s indicates a period of transformation of cultural tourism which, unlike the original orientation towards elite clientele, found a new opportunity for development in the orientation towards the mass market. Orientation to the mass market was mainly driven by supply-oriented logic, because the creation and marketing of cultural attractions became a development option for numerous destinations. Nowadays, new cultural tourism is focused on the integration of production and consumption, and increasing linkages between suppliers and consumers. Instead of passive consumption, cultural tourists demonstrate a proactive approach to meeting their needs, wanting to actively participate in creating experiences while travelling. On the other side, suppliers focus their attention on the close interaction with consumers and co-creation of high quality experiences
