Design of highly reflective film for smart radiation device

    Get PDF
Smart radiation device (SRD) based on the asymmetrical Fabry-Perot cavity automatically tune its IR emittance depending on the ambient temperature, making it an ideal choice for thermal control system of spacecrafts. The low solar absorption is desirable for SRD to prevent the spacecraft from overheating by sun light. In this paper, a multilayer highly reflective film with LHk stacking layers is designed to reduce the solar absorptance (As) of the Ag/Al2O3/VO2 structured SRD. The reflective film achieves a high reflection band in ~220 nm bandwidth from 460 nm to 680 nm, which results in a reduction of the solar absorptance by 25.56 % for SRD working at low temperature and 24.27 % at high temperature as the stacking factor k= 5. The simulation results indicate that an economic reflective film with k= 3 can achieve effective suppression of As of SRD, demonstrating the promising potential of the proposed reflective film in thermal control application of spacecrafts

Study on treatment of loess subgrade disease by cement mixing pile

    Get PDF
Affected by the difference of geological conditions, the cause of settlement of road subgrade is different, and the concealment of subgrade disease is strong. If it is not timely maintenance, it will cause the further development of subgrade disease. A finite element model is established to study the settlement control technology by using cement mixing pile for collapsible loess. The results showed that when the loess is relatively shallow and the cement mixing pile penetrates the loess, the settlement and post-construction settlement of the foundation are small, which can be controlled within the limits of the specification. The cement content of mixing pile should be selected according to different regions, moisture content and other indicators. For the loess with particularly high moisture content and organic matter content, the cement content and construction technology should be determined by indoor and on-site test pile

Reliability of quantitative risk models: a case study from offshore gas production platform

    Get PDF
In response to the competing factors governing the operation of oil and gas facilities, i.e., the stringent safety and environmental regulations, and the challenging business environment that entails minimizing the running cost, a risk-based inspection (RBI) program became a vital part of all Asset Integrity Management (AIM) frameworks. The objective is to ensure asset mechanical integrity while optimizing the maintenance and inspection resources and minimizing production downtime. There are different risk models being used to manage operational risk for equipment. The decision-maker should be attentive to the subjectivity and reliability of the risk results to establish an adequate risk target that can achieve the ultimate goal of RBI by determining the cost-effective inspection and maintenance plan without compromising plant safety, integrity or reliability. This paper presents evaluations of the most quantitative RBI models through a case study from an offshore gas producing platform. A case study was implemented for topside equipment on an offshore platform. The study analyzed the impact of contributing factors to the probability of failure (PoF) model through a sensitivity analysis to quantify the reliability and subjectivity in the failure probabilities. A sensitivity analysis and comparison between both API consequence modelling methodologies (i.e., CoF level 1 and 2) were performed to manifest the reliability of risk results. The sensitivity analysis revealed the variance in the calculated risk and demonstrated that a risk target/threshold should be established based on the deployed risk model. Using the same risk target for different risk models cannot effectively define all equipment items that actually need more resources to mitigate the risk. And can result in omitting critical equipment which can jeopardize asset integrity and lead to major losses, or spend resources on unnecessary equipment

On the use of a network of trunk pipelines to compensate for the shortage of water resources at the expense of the country’s deep Siberian rivers

    Get PDF
The paper discusses topical issues and problems of water supply in scarce and arid regions of the country, including the redistribution of water flows from high-flowing Siberian rivers, which are heavily overflowing during the flood period. In particular, an overview of world experience in solving water supply problems is given, both through desalination of sea water and the use of underground sources, and through the construction of canals and main water pipelines, from futuristic ideas to projects that have already been implemented and have many years of positive operating experience. Special attention is paid to the domestic union experience, plans to turn large rivers to supply the Central Asian republics, the world’s first nuclear plants for desalination of sea water and a main water conduit to supply the Mangyshlak Peninsula. Based on the results of the analysis performed, the main disadvantages, areas, limitations and advantages of various water supply options are identified, which make it possible to draw a conclusion about the possibility of involving unclaimed capacities of main oil and gas pipelines to solve the problems of compensating for the shortage of water resources at the expense of the country's deep Siberian rivers

An efficient solar water desalination system using natural vacuum pressure

    Get PDF
An innovative design of a solar natural vacuum desalination (SNVD) system is proposed and investigated. To obtain a vacuum pressure in a desalination chamber its height is considered as 9.5 m. The waste heat in the system is efficiently utilized for both brine and distilled water. Seawater is preheated by the produced warm water, then, it is heated again by the outlet rejected hot brine before it is charged into the evaporation chamber. In addition, inlet pure water to a flat-plate collector is preheated by the condensation latent heat of the evaporated vapor from the evaporation chamber. Later, the outlet hot water from the collector is used as a heat source to the evaporation process. An optimum design of the system components was provided under the actual weather conditions for the shortest day of the year. It was found that the collector area is required to be 23 m2 to produce 66.6 liter of distilled water during. A mathematical modeling of the system was provided to establish a transient simulation and investigate the hourly performance of the system. Based on the annual performance of the system, the system can produce 76.5 liter of distilled water daily that is corresponding to 3.5 liter per one quadratic meter of collector. The annual average specific productivity of the system is obtained as 1.44 liter per kWh of solar radiation. Moreover, the maximum annual production is estimated as 92.88 liter of distilled water per day. Accordingly, the evaporation ratio (ER) is dependent on the solar irradiation and the annual average is found 0.0175 (or 1.75 %) where the gain output ratio (GOR) was estimated as 0.97 on yearly average basis

A convolutional neural network method based on Adam optimizer with power-exponential learning rate for bearing fault diagnosis

    Get PDF
The extraction of early fault features from time-series data is very crucial for convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in bearing fault diagnosis. To address this problem, a CNN framework based on identity mapping and Adam optimizer is presented for learning temporal dependencies and extracting fault features. The introduction of four identity mappings allows the deep layers to directly learn the data from the shallow layers, which alleviates the gradient disappearance problem caused by the increase of network depth. A new Adam optimizer with power-exponential learning rate is proposed to control the iteration direction and step size of CNN method, which solves the problems of local minima, overshoot or oscillation caused by the fixed values of the learning rates during the updating of network parameters. Compared to existed methods, the identification accuracy of the proposed method outperformed that of other methods for bearing fault diagnosis

The discriminant statistic based on MPE-MWPE relationship and non-uniform embedding

    Get PDF
The slope fitting line between MPE (multi-scale permutation entropy) and MWPE (multi-scale weighted permutation entropy) is recently proposed as a discriminant statistic for testing the nonlinearity of a time series. The main objective of this paper is to demonstrate that the selection of the optimal parameters of the non-uniform embedding is essential for the proposed discriminant statistic. In particular, the presented case studies indicate that the modified discriminant statistic based on non-uniform embedding can detect differences between such time series which remain indistinguishable if the original approach is used

Active damping control of HEVs using Ansys and Matlab/Simulink software

    Get PDF
This paper presents Parallel Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) powertrain design as well as a motor-based control approach that is designed to control or reduce driveline oscillations by introducing a Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller and a Fuzzy logic sliding mode controller. Because the torque of the electric motor can be decreased or increased more quickly than that of the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), the vibration increases significantly. To solve this problem, an electric motor control-based Active Damping Control (ADC) strategy is employed to assure smooth driveline function and provide seamless driving experience for the driver. First, the basic level modeling of a hybrid electric powertrain in Ansys Simplorer environment is created and the performance was studied during the certification drive cycle. Thus, the main components of the powertrain– traction motor, battery and ICE – are researched, and basic models were built. The components were developed based on the Ansys software by using an automotive system level behavioral HEV library with VHDL-AMS language built in Ansys Simplorer environment. In addition, comparison of both controllers was presented. The simulation results show that using the ADC reduces more than 30 % of the driveline oscillations, thereby improving the drivability of HEVs

Study of torque pulsation control of switched reluctance motor by auto-disturbance rejection control

    Get PDF
The switched reluctance motor drives the rotor based on the principle of minimum reluctance, which is structurally simpler, but the doubly salient structure of the stator and rotor leads to severe torque pulsation. This paper briefly introduces the switched reluctance motor and the auto-disturbance rejection controller for suppressing the torque pulsation of the switched reluctance motor. Then, the auto-disturbance rejection controller was simulated in the MATLAB software, and it was compared with the direct torque control strategy. The results showed that the switched reluctance motor installed with the self-reluctance controller reached the set rotational speed faster, with a smoother torque change; when the set speed changed abruptly, it was adjusted to the new rotational speed faster, with a smooth and stable torque change; when the load torque changed abruptly, it was adjusted to the new torque smoother and faster, and the adjustment to the rotational speed was also faster
