    Research on IGOA-LSSVM based fault diagnosis of power transformers

    Power transformer is an important part of power equipment, and its functionality affects the proper operation of the whole power network. In order to diagnose power transformer faults effectively, the authors propose a fault diagnosis strategy based on an improved locust optimization algorithm for least squares vector machines (IGOA-LSSVM). Firstly, it was required to address the problem that the diagnostic prediction accuracy of the least squares vector machine is reduced due to its parameters. So this paper introduces the locust optimization algorithm with simple algorithm structure and good performance for optimizing the parameters. And at the same time, the authors generate an improved locust optimization algorithm with self-learning factors, proportional weight coefficients and Levy flight strategy. Secondly, the improved locust optimization algorithm is used for optimizing the least squares vector machine parameters. Finally, in the simulation experiments, the results of the benchmark test function illustrate that the IGOA algorithm has better performance, and the test results of a fault samples diagnosis of the power transformer equipment illustrate that the IGOA-LSSVM has good prediction effect and improves the fault identification accuracy compared with ACO-LSSVM and PSO-LSSVM in five types of fault diagnosis

    Tests of selected anti-vibration gloves available on the Polish market

    The authors of the paper conducted tests of anti-vibration gloves available on the market (17 types) in accordance with the methodology of the EN ISO 10819: 2013 standard. The main purpose of these studies was to verify the data provided by manufacturers in product specifications and user manuals. Based on the determined values of the vibration transmissibility coefficients, it was found that, despite the certificates held by all the tested gloves, as many as 6 types do not meet the minimum requirements for anti-vibration gloves, and two types achieve properties on the verge of meeting these requirements. Two types of gloves (despite the certificate) did not show any significant vibration damping in the whole tested frequency range. The obtained test results indicate the need to verify the anti-vibration properties of the available certified gloves from unverified suppliers. It also seems necessary to assess the effectiveness of protection of anti-vibration gloves in the conditions of their actual use

    Effect of particle gradation on the triaxial test of soil using three-dimensional DEM analysis

    Numerical simulation of triaxial test are carried out for soil specimens with varying particle size by DEM analysis under the flexible boundary. For the purpose, soil state characteristics such as shear band formation, variation law and the difference between the global void ratio and the local void ratio are particularly focused. Results shows that the shear band of multi-graded specimen is more difficult to create, but it is thicker than that of single-graded specimen. Overall void ratio changes mostly due to particle movement at the shear band and independent to particle gradation. The shear strength of the multi-graded sample is better than that of the single-graded specimen

    Seismic response analysis of tunnel with cavity behind lining

    For the seismic safety of tunnels with cavity behind lining, based on the finite element method, the viscoelastic artificial boundaries are introduced to study the influence of the location of cavity behind lining on the seismic response of tunnel structure under vertically incident SV wave. The analysis results show that the cavity behind the lining has a significant effect on the seismic response of tunnel structure, and the appearance of cavity behind lining will significantly change the dynamic characteristics of tunnel structure; when the incidence frequency of wave is close to the natural vibration frequency of tunnel structure, the lining stress has the largest amplification when the cavity appears behind the vault; Regardless of the cavity location, the maximum of lining stresses always appears at the arched foot, and the vault stress has the largest amplification; Under the Taft wave, the maximum stress 1.642 MPa of lining without cavity appears at the arched foot, and the minimum 0.118MPa at the arched waist, the stress amplification at the vault can reach about 760 %, which is unfavorable to tunnels. In addition, the soil property also has a great influence on the tunnel; the layered site will lead to the obvious change of the seismic wave, hence the geological data should be collected in detail in the seismic design of tunnel. Meanwhile it is proposed that the PE material can be filled back into the cavities behind the tunnel lining to reduce the earthquake damage of tunnels

    Vertical vibration modeling for 2:1-roping traction elevator system

    This paper presents a vertical vibration model for 2:1-roping traction elevator system. In this model, masses of suspension ropes are considered and their kinetic energy is calculated by applying Rayleigh method. Equations of motion for free vibration are derived. To verify the improvement of the model, an output dependent only modal test scheme using eigenvalue realization algorithm is conducted to obtain natural frequencies from a real elevator installation. The comparison of experimental results and numerical results of proposed model and previous similar models is presented on calculation of natural frequencies. The results show that proposed model is able to reflect the 5th natural frequencies more exactly under 0 % and 100 % load conditions

    Amorphous FeVO4 as high-capacity cathode precursor for lithium second battery

    Various vanadates have been investigated to accelerate the development of advanced technologies, especially in the area of electronics. Amorphous FeVO4 was synthesized by the liquid phase precipitation method. This precursor was firstly discharged and then charged as cathode material of lithium second battery, in which the valence of two kinds of metals can be changed. Thermal analysis (TG-DTA), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) have been used for their characterization. The result revealed the existence of two pairs of redox couples, Fe3+/Fe2+ and V5+/V4+. The electrochemical investigation has shown that at higher potentials amorphous FeVO4 can react with 1, 1.5 and 2 mol Li, respectively

    Reliability of quantitative risk models: a case study from offshore gas production platform

    In response to the competing factors governing the operation of oil and gas facilities, i.e., the stringent safety and environmental regulations, and the challenging business environment that entails minimizing the running cost, a risk-based inspection (RBI) program became a vital part of all Asset Integrity Management (AIM) frameworks. The objective is to ensure asset mechanical integrity while optimizing the maintenance and inspection resources and minimizing production downtime. There are different risk models being used to manage operational risk for equipment. The decision-maker should be attentive to the subjectivity and reliability of the risk results to establish an adequate risk target that can achieve the ultimate goal of RBI by determining the cost-effective inspection and maintenance plan without compromising plant safety, integrity or reliability. This paper presents evaluations of the most quantitative RBI models through a case study from an offshore gas producing platform. A case study was implemented for topside equipment on an offshore platform. The study analyzed the impact of contributing factors to the probability of failure (PoF) model through a sensitivity analysis to quantify the reliability and subjectivity in the failure probabilities. A sensitivity analysis and comparison between both API consequence modelling methodologies (i.e., CoF level 1 and 2) were performed to manifest the reliability of risk results. The sensitivity analysis revealed the variance in the calculated risk and demonstrated that a risk target/threshold should be established based on the deployed risk model. Using the same risk target for different risk models cannot effectively define all equipment items that actually need more resources to mitigate the risk. And can result in omitting critical equipment which can jeopardize asset integrity and lead to major losses, or spend resources on unnecessary equipment

    Structural mechanics analysis of bolt joint of rigid flexible coupling manipulator

    As the key connecting part of the rigid flexible coupling manipulator, the structural dynamic characteristics of the bolted joint are analyzed by using the joint simulation technology of pro/e and ANSYS. Based on the spring equivalent principle, the finite element equivalent model of bolt joint is established, the relationship equation between contact surface pressure and bolt preload is derived, and its stress state is analyzed; Based on the micro convex deformation model and Hertz contact theory, the tangential stiffness equation and normal stiffness equation of the bolted joint are derived respectively. The three-dimensional model of the bolted joint is established by using pro/e and imported into ANSYS for joint simulation. The simulation experiments reveal the influence of bolt joint vibration characteristics under different conditions from the aspects of bolt diameter, pre tightening force, bolt group number and bolt distribution. The conclusions have important engineering value for the structural optimization of rigid flexible coupling manipulator

    Making humanoid robots teaching assistants by using natural language processing (NLP) cloud-based services

    Humanoid robots have a substantial potential to serve as teaching and social assistants. However, the expectations of the children from robots to interact like humans are huge. This study presents a general model for understanding the natural language in human-robot interaction by applying Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) language models as a service in the Internet of Things. Thus, the physical presence of the robot can help in fine-tuning the GPT model by prompts derived from the environmental context and subsequent robot actions for embodiment understanding of the GPT outputs. The model uses web or cloud services for Natural Language Processing (NLP) to produce and play human-like text, question answering or text generation. Verbal questions are processed either via a local speech recognition software or via a Speech-to-Text (STT) cloud service. The converted question into machine-readable code is sent to one of the GPT language models with zero- or few-shot learning prompts. GPT-J model has been tested and deployed either in the web or cloud with options for varying the parameters for controlling the haphazardness of the generated text. The robot produces human-like text by using Text-to-Speech (TTS) cloud services that convert the response into audio format rendered on the robot to be played. Useful requirements how the model to be used in order to be feasible were determined based on the evaluation of the outputs given from the different NLP and GPT-J web or cloud-services. We designed and implemented the model in order to be used by a humanoid NAO-type robot in the speech language therapy practice, however it can be used for other open-source and programmable robots and in different contexts
