Productivity forecast with digital greenhouse automation system for sustainable agriculture
Greenhouses are a popular agricultural production method by providing artificial climatic conditions. Providing optimum climatic conditions depends on the equipment of the greenhouse. Greenhouse equipment consists of systems such as heating, ventilation, shading, irrigation, and fertilization. In modern greenhouse cultivation, all these have become controllable with smart systems. These modern greenhouses, in other words smart greenhouses, can read the ambient conditions in real-time with their advanced sensor systems and enable processes such as irrigation, adjustment of ambient temperature, and ventilation to be carried out autonomously. In this study, the working principle, general structure, design, and types of equipment used in the greenhouse automation system are explained, and the system is designed and simulated on the Unity Engine
Traveling wave effect of multi-span through concrete-filled steel tubular arch bridge
To explore the different influence of traveling wave effect on the isolated and non-isolated arch bridge, the isolated and non-isolated multi-span arch bridges models are established respectively, three measured seismic waves were selected, and under the eight kinds of apparent wave velocities and multi-point consistent excitations, the structural responses of the two models, including the internal force response, the arch rib velocity, the pier’s internal force response, the bridge deck acceleration, and the shear force and displacement of isolation support of different arch ribs position in two models, were compared and analyzed. The results show that the isolation effect of the isolation structure is obvious; the wave effect of the isolated structure is significant, the two structures show different internal force response curves in different positions of the arch ribs under the influence of different seismic waves; the influence of the apparent wave velocity on the force and shock reduction rate of the arch ribs is complex; the vertical acceleration of the arch ribs and bridge deck of the isolated structure is reduced significantly; and the shear force and displacement of the isolation bearing increase with the increase of the apparent wave velocity. The study shows the traveling wave effect of multi-span through a concrete-filled steel tubular arch bridge with and without isolation, and the results will be used for the seismic design and analysis of structural diseases caused by the wave effect
“The tonic’s not always in a bottle”: a qualitative study investigating a heart rate variability biofeedback coherence intervention for individuals with gastrointestinal disorders
Gastrointestinal disorders (GID) affect psychological and physical health and can be impacted by stress and ability to self-regulate emotions. The aim of this study was to gain an in-depth understanding of individuals with GID experiences of a Heart Rate Variability biofeedback (HRV-BF) coherence intervention. Six patients, who had already been diagnosed with GID, were interviewed using a semi-structured interview schedule to investigate how engaging in an HRV-BF coherence intervention affected their levels of stress and their GID condition. All transcripts were explored using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Analysis of the accounts indicated four superordinate themes: (1) Autonomy, (2) Self-regulation, (3) Acceptance, (4) Mind-Body-Spirit. The field of HRV-BF interventions in the area of gastroenterology is promising. However, it is recommended that further studies involving psycho-physiological interventions, with mixed-method designs and larger samples, are undertaken
Vibration and instability of a fluid-conveying nanotube resting on elastic foundation subjected to a magnetic field
Using the nonlocal Euler-Bernouli beam model, this paper is carried out to investigate the vibrations and instability of a single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) conveying fluid subjected to a longitudinal magnetic field. The nanobeam with clamped-clamped boundary conditions lies on the Pasternak foundation. Hamilton’s principle is applied to derive the fluid-structure interaction (FSI) governing equation and the corresponding boundary conditions. In the solution part the differential transformation method (DTM) is used to solve the differential equations of motion. The influences of nonlocal parameter, longitudinal magnetic field, Pasternak foundation on the critical divergence velocity of the nanotubes is studied
Design optimization and feasibility analysis of pneumatic DTH Hammer with self-rotation bit
This paper presents a novel pneumatic Down-The-Hole (DTH) hammer with self-rotation bit used for rock drilling, and the mechanical structure and working principle are mainly covered. A unique mechanism with ratchet and pawl incorporated in pneumatic DTH hammer is proposed for percussion-rotation drilling to break rock. The drill bit can rotate while the drill pipe stays still because of the structure design and reduces the friction between the drill pipe and borehole. Firstly, the rationality of mechanical invention is verified via the finite-element software ANSYS and the numerical simulation of impact dynamics. Moreover, the energy transfer regulation is revealed in the impact process under differential final impact velocity, which can help practical experience in mechanical design. Finally, based on the experimental study on the novel hammer, we found that its function can satisfy the requirement, as well as overall performance, was improved
Numerical modeling of the stress-strain state of the ice beam by specified constitutive model
Ice cantilever beam is a generic construction component in cold region, referring recent decade research, many reports demonstrated ice mechanic characteristics separately, however, in most previous numerical simulations of ice material are based on the ‘Coulomb-Mohr’ constitutive models. In this article, author also used another ‘user defined constitutive model’ (‘Exponent’ temporary name), which is governed by “nonlinear isotropic harden power law” to simulate the ice cantilever beam mechanic behaviors. As per these numerical results, author made a few comparisons between ‘Coulomb-Mohr’ and ‘user defined’ model, all these compared results contain stress, strain, deformation items in elastic and plastic states respectively, in the meantime, author established series charts, such as ‘stress distributions on failure surface’, ‘dependance of loads with deformations’, ‘dependency of loads and flexural stress with equivalent and plastic strain’, etc., to prove the availability of ‘user defined’ constitutive model. Besides, author proposed some parameter assumptions for further research
Dual-phase-lag model on microelongated thermoelastic rotating medium
The dual-phase-lag (DPL) model is applied to study the influence of rotation on a two-dimensional micro-elongated thermoelastic medium problem. Mechanical force along with the layer of the elastic half-space interface and micro-elongated thermoelastic half-space is applied. The analytic expressions for displacement component, temperature distribution, micro-elongational scalar and stress components have been derived and represented graphically. The rotation has been studied in the presence DPL model and Lord-Shulman theory
An efficient solar water desalination system using natural vacuum pressure
An innovative design of a solar natural vacuum desalination (SNVD) system is proposed and investigated. To obtain a vacuum pressure in a desalination chamber its height is considered as 9.5 m. The waste heat in the system is efficiently utilized for both brine and distilled water. Seawater is preheated by the produced warm water, then, it is heated again by the outlet rejected hot brine before it is charged into the evaporation chamber. In addition, inlet pure water to a flat-plate collector is preheated by the condensation latent heat of the evaporated vapor from the evaporation chamber. Later, the outlet hot water from the collector is used as a heat source to the evaporation process. An optimum design of the system components was provided under the actual weather conditions for the shortest day of the year. It was found that the collector area is required to be 23 m2 to produce 66.6 liter of distilled water during. A mathematical modeling of the system was provided to establish a transient simulation and investigate the hourly performance of the system. Based on the annual performance of the system, the system can produce 76.5 liter of distilled water daily that is corresponding to 3.5 liter per one quadratic meter of collector. The annual average specific productivity of the system is obtained as 1.44 liter per kWh of solar radiation. Moreover, the maximum annual production is estimated as 92.88 liter of distilled water per day. Accordingly, the evaporation ratio (ER) is dependent on the solar irradiation and the annual average is found 0.0175 (or 1.75 %) where the gain output ratio (GOR) was estimated as 0.97 on yearly average basis
Recent advancements of signal processing and artificial intelligence in the fault detection of rolling element bearings: a review

Effect of damping ditch on blasting vibration reduction by field experiment and numerical simulation
In order to analyze the influence of a damping ditch on the blasting vibration, a large number of on-site monitoring tests with or without damping ditch were carried out based on the foundation pit excavation project. Based on the Sadovsky’s empirical formula, the optimized vibration velocity attenuation model was established by using the waveform subsection correspondence method and least square method. The calculation results are in good agreement with the measurement results. The average errors in radial direction and vertical direction are 17.04 % and 10.76 % respectively. A series of finite element models were established to study the influence of the damping ditch geometry on the damping effect. The experimental and numerical results show that the damping ditch can obviously reduce the blasting seismic effect, with the highest damping ratio in the area near blasting source. For different damping ditches, the damping ratio first increases and then decreases proportionally to the increase of distance between the measuring point and the blasting zone. The damping ditch depth has the best damping effect on blasting vibration, followed by the distance between the damping ditch and the blasting source, and finally the damping ditch width, which is consistent with the damping mechanism of theoretical analysis. The attenuation of the surface wave is only related to the damping ditch depth. The research results can provide a reference for the design of blasting vibration isolation
