Study on magnetostriction characteristics under different measurement conditions under an externally compressive stress
The measurement of magnetostriction characteristics of grain-oriented electrical steel strip under an external compressive stress has always been a main focus in the process of magnetostriction measurement. There are difficulties in the measurement of magnetostriction, especially under compressive stress, mainly because the thickness of test specimen is small, and the test specimen is very easy to deform under the compressive stress. A weight should be placed on the test specimen to prevent a deformation of the test specimen when the measurement of magnetostriction characteristics under an externally compressive stress according to the IEC/TR 62581:2010. But how much weight and how to place aren’t concerned in IEC standard. In this paper, different weights were placed on the grain-oriented electrical steel test specimen under external compressive stress and zero stress. Through analyzed the measured magnetostriction data under different weights to determine the optimal measurement method of grain-oriented electrical steel strip under compressive stress and zero stress. The purpose of this paper is to find the most accurate and high reproducibility measurement method of magnetostriction, which can truly reflect the magnetostriction performance of grain-oriented electrical steel
Rehabilitation coatings-current challenges and opportunities for the future
Underground pipelines used for oil, gas and water distribution in Saudi Arabia and gulf region are estimated more than 33000 km in length with a range of diameters from 8 and 80 inch. Most of these pipelines are buried in different types of corrosive soil conditions and in most cases an external coating is employed along with cathodic protection (CP). Most of the existing pipelines are over 30 years old now and this is the stage to carry out rehabilitation projects for life extension of this aging infrastructure. The selection of the suitable coating systems for the rehabilitation projects is a very complicated process as it requires in depth understanding the coating/environments interactions in that particular environment along with application challenges. This paper discusses in detail the different types of external underground pipeline coating types and their selection criteria for rehabilitation projects along with recent trends and future recommendations
Experimental study on the effect of particle gradation on dewatering performance of geotubes
To clarify the effect of particle gradation of filling soil on the dewatering and consolidation performance of geotubes, the content of four-particle size classes (powder, fine, medium, and coarse) which are commonly used in engineering as the research object was taken. The dewatering rate, soil infiltration and solid-liquid mixing pressure in the bag with time when filling soil with different particles were studied, and the soil loss of the hanging bag was analyzed from the perspective of seepage soil gradation. The research results show that the dewatering process could be divided into the quick dewatering stage, silting stage, and stable stage according to the dewatering rate. According to the performance of soil conservation, it could be divided into the loss stage and reverse filtration stage. Further, based on the effects of powder content, non-uniformity coefficient, and curvature coefficient of soil on the dewatering rate of the hanging bag, a formula for calculating the dewatering rate of geotubes is summarized
On the use of a network of trunk pipelines to compensate for the shortage of water resources at the expense of the country’s deep Siberian rivers
The paper discusses topical issues and problems of water supply in scarce and arid regions of the country, including the redistribution of water flows from high-flowing Siberian rivers, which are heavily overflowing during the flood period. In particular, an overview of world experience in solving water supply problems is given, both through desalination of sea water and the use of underground sources, and through the construction of canals and main water pipelines, from futuristic ideas to projects that have already been implemented and have many years of positive operating experience. Special attention is paid to the domestic union experience, plans to turn large rivers to supply the Central Asian republics, the world’s first nuclear plants for desalination of sea water and a main water conduit to supply the Mangyshlak Peninsula. Based on the results of the analysis performed, the main disadvantages, areas, limitations and advantages of various water supply options are identified, which make it possible to draw a conclusion about the possibility of involving unclaimed capacities of main oil and gas pipelines to solve the problems of compensating for the shortage of water resources at the expense of the country's deep Siberian rivers
Research on 3D MFL testing of wire rope based on empirical wavelet transform and SRCNN
Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) testing is one of the most effective methods in nondestructive testing of wire rope. However, traditional MFL testing devices have problems such as low recognition rate, single detection dimension and fuzzy magnetic leakage image. Based on the non-saturated magnetic excitation 3D MFL testing device, this paper proposes a wavelet denoising method based on empirical wavelet transform (EWT) to denoise the collected 3D MFL signal. After noise reduction, the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) and Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) of the three dimensions have improved. Color imaging technology is used to fuse defect grayscale images into color images, and Super-Resolution Convolutional Neural Network (SRCNN) is applied to MFL images of broken wires. After SRCNN reconstruction, the resolution of defect color images is improved. The color moment feature of the defect color image is extracted as the input of the Elman neural network to quantitatively identify broken wires. Experimental results show that the noise reduction algorithm can effectively suppress the noise in three dimensions, and the broken wires recognition rate after reconstruction has been significantly improved, which verifies the effectiveness of SRCNN in wire rope MFL images
Adaptive feature selection method with FF-FC-MIC for the detection of mutual faults in rotating machinery
In the coupling state of rotor unbalance fault and bearing defect fault for rotor system, the signals contain multiple fault components, and the fault diagnosis of the rotor system needs to contain comprehensive multidimensional feature quantities. However, irrelevant feature information in the multi-dimensional feature quantities increases the complexity of classification calculation and affects the efficiency and accuracy of diagnosis. In order to eliminate redundant and irrelevant features in the feature information, and achieve the goal of fewer diagnostic features and good diagnostic results, this paper proposes an adaptive feature selection based on the maximum information coefficient FF-FC-MIC (Feature-to-Feature and Feature-to-Category Maximum Information Coefficient) method. Firstly, the sparse representation algorithm is used to reconstruct the original signal to improve the signal-to-noise ratio, and the multi-dimensional feature quantity of the reconstructed signal is calculated; Secondly, calculate the correlation between features and features through MIC to obtain a feature set of weak correlation between features; thirdly, use MIC to calculate the correlation between features and signal categories to obtain a feature set with strong correlation between features and signals; Finally, the FF-FC-MIC feature selection method is used for feature adaptive selection and input into SVM to complete fault diagnosis. The method is analyzed by simulation signals and the real experiment signals. The results show that the method can effectively remove redundant and disclosed features in the coupling fault, reducing the characteristic dimension to reduce the fault classification time, and improve classification accuracy. Different experimental cases and various feature selection comparison methods further verify the accuracy and applicability of the proposed method

Dynamic stiffness and vibration analysis model of angular contact ball bearing considering vibration and friction state variation
Force and thermal effect are dominant in giving rise to variation of bearing dynamic stiffness and vibration. On the basis of test and theoretical analysis, the dynamic stiffness and vibration model of angle contact ball bearing considering vibration and friction state variation is established. Firstly, based on the quasi-statics of bearing and hydrodynamic lubrication theory, the motion and force relation between each parts are determined by considering the force and thermal effect. Secondly, the friction power consumption of bearing is calculated adopting integrated method, besides, the conduction heat resistance and convection heat resistance in the bearing system are achieved. A steady-state temperature calculation model of angle contact ball bearing-shaft-house system is built based on thermal network method. Finally, the dynamic stiffness and vibration model of angular contact ball bearing including the thermal-solid coupling effect is obtained, which is employed to realize the theoretical analysis of bearing dynamic stiffness and vibration, its accuracy is verified through typical test results. The calculation results shows that there is a good agreement between house test temperature and calculation temperature. The evolution rule of contact deformation and contact stiffness between ball and outer/inner ring over the whole life under excessive preload is the same. So does the oil film thickness and oil film stiffness. However, the curve shape and amplitude of contact angular between ball and outer/inner ring over the whole life is different. Bearing radial stiffness value has a more significant change than axial stiffness value, both of them represent an overall upward tendency. The radial clearance holds a negative correlation with house temperature, however, the radial displacement has a positive correlation with house temperature. The evolvement curve of contact angular affected by various preload and speed is opposite. The contact load between ball and outer/inner ring has the same trend influenced by preload and speed with EHL. The variation of preload has bigger effect on temperature rise than speed change. The oil film has little influence on contact angular, contact load and temperature under dry-lubricated or lightly lubricated condition
Fault feature extraction of rolling element bearings based on short-time processing
Fault diagnosis of bearings is a crucial part of the maintenance process of the rotary machinery. Extracting the cyclic characteristics of the impact force is of significant importance for the bearing diagnosis. To highlight the fault features from signals combined with heavy background noise, a novel approach for bearing fault diagnosis based on the short-time processing is proposed. Fault signals are regarded as periodic impulse response signals. Firstly, a vibration signal is band-pass filtered with a subsequent spectral analysis. Then we integrate the energy of the filtered signal with a constant length, and the natural logarithm is considered to obtain the energy curve. The energy curve is a straight decaying curve, and its spectral energy is more concentrated on the fault characteristic frequency compared with envelope. Finally, the fault characteristic frequency of the bearing is found by the spectral analysis of the energy curve. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by simulation and experiments. The harmonics and sidebands in logarithmic energy spectrum are suppressed well, and the fault characteristic frequency is highlighted. Comparison of the proposed method with Hilbert envelope method shows that the proposed method can highlight the fault characteristic frequency
Application of A* algorithm in intelligent vehicle path planning
Path planning is one of the important directions in the field of intelligent vehicles research. Traditional path planning algorithms generally use Dijkstra algorithm, Breadth-First-Search (BFS) algorithm and A* algorithm. Dijkstra algorithm is a search-based algorithm, which can search to an optimal path, but the disadvantage is too many expansion nodes, which leads to insufficient search efficiency. BFS algorithm is a heuristic search algorithm, which reduces the disadvantage of too many expansion nodes and improves the search efficiency by heuristic function. A* algorithm is a heuristic search algorithm that combines Dijkstra’s algorithm and BFS algorithm, which has higher search efficiency and can search to an optimal path at the same time, but it is still lacking in the search mode and smoothness of the planned route. This paper first introduces the general path planning algorithm, then introduces and analyzes the A* algorithm, and proposes improvement measures for its shortcomings; finally, the executability and effectiveness of the improved algorithm are tested using simulation, and compared with the traditional A* algorithm, and the results show that the improved A* algorithm has good effect on path planning of intelligent vehicles
