Marine Renewable Energy and Economic Sustainability: Policy Frameworks for Scaling Offshore Wind and Tidal Power

This study investigates the policy frameworks necessary for scaling marine renewable energy (MRE), specifically offshore wind and tidal power, within the context of economic sustainability. The objective is to critically examine how current policies support or hinder the expansion of MRE and to propose strategic frameworks that align environmental goals with long-term economic development. Drawing on a qualitative, comparative case study methodology, the research analyzes policy instruments and institutional arrangements in selected leading MRE countries, including the United Kingdom, South Korea, and Canada. Data sources include government policy documents, international energy databases, and expert interviews. The paper uses two theoretically related to each other concepts: ecological economics, which breaks down the interdependence between economic systems and natural ecosystems, and the policy cycle model and helps to assess the success of policy-making and its application. The value of this study is that it helps to support the filling of policy/governance gaps that inhibit the wider uptake of marine renewables. The conclusion shows that there is a need to have integrated, adaptive, and inclusive policy processes that enhance innovation by minimizing the risks associated with investments as well as equitable distribution of benefits among coastal environments. This paper provides policy recommendations that can be used to scale MRE technologies as it promotes sustainable economic results and extends on the expanding data on the policies of energy transition and blue economies

Multinational Corporations and the New Scramble for Africa: Neocolonial Patterns in the Quest for Global Market Expansion

This research examines how multinational corporations (MNCs) have contributed to the reproduction of neocolonial formations in Africa, with a focus on how these patterns of colonialism have been reproduced using the process of economic domination, resource abduction and political pressure. These are the main aims to critically evaluate the implications of MNCs on African sovereignty and development pathways and to explore the currents of local resistance and policy contingencies. The study uses a qualitative methodological framework, and it builds on case studies in Nigeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Ethiopia, where it examines documents and secondary data. Theoretical scaffolding is based on postcolonial and dependency paradigms, which highlight structural injustice of colonial antecedents and perpetuated by modern global capitalist systems. The importance of the study is in the fact that it contributes to a deeper analysis of the socio-economic and political influence of MNCs in the context of the globalization process, both predicting the counter-strategies and reforms. Significant evidence reveals the misuse of weak regulatory frameworks by MNCs which leads to environmental degradation, labour violations and displacement of the community hence compromising the sustainability of development. The protests of indigenous people, legal obstacles, and pan-African programs including the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) are all examples of the growing movements to reclaim economic sovereignty. However, gaps exist in the research on assessment of the long-term consequences on institutional capacity and community resilience. The research study finds that without strong mechanisms of governance and clear policies that are established and implemented, MNC dominance will continue to reinforce inequality and dependency. Some of the proposals include strengthening regulatory frameworks, supporting transparency, economic models that are community-based, and Pan-African economic integration as a means of achieving equitable development

The Nature of Knowledge in Plato’s Philosophy: A Study of Episteme and Doxa

The question of knowledge, which has always been mistaken for erroneous knowledge, is one of the most contentious discussions in the history of philosophy. One of the most well-known philosophers of antiquity, Plato contributed much to setting a benchmark for knowledge. Based on several of Plato's dialogues that inquire about the possibility of genuine knowledge, this article seeks to investigate the difference between true and false knowledge. Plato examined two standards for knowing in accordance with Parmenides' well-known claim that knowledge belongs to beings and not to non-beings. First, knowledge is associated with veracity. Second, there needs to be perfect knowledge. Additionally, he demonstrates that actual knowledge is distinct from sense perception and needs to be unified through the use of the dialectic method, a unique Socratic and Platonic debating technique. These dialogues highlight the differences between real and incorrect knowledge, citing traits like stability and infallibility. This study suggests that one of the best strategies we have to combat erroneous information or what is referred to as inaccurate knowledge nowadays is to use Plato's dialogues as a foundation upon which we can challenge any belief that purports to be real knowledge
