    Transgender in Silappathikaram

    Silappathikaram is the first Tamil epic. In this epic that is written by Ilangovadikal, there are records of transgender people living on the margins of society. As Tolkappiyar has recorded transgender people as masculinity challenged, Ilangovadikal too referred transgender as masculinity challenged. Silappathikaram talks about ‘Pedik Koothu (folk play)’ which can only be played by transgender people. Madurapathi, the deity of the Pandyas, one of the three crowned Kings, is understood to be in the bisexual transgender form. Silappathikaram beautifully captures the transcendental imagery of transgender people. It also records that transgender people worked as maids in the harem for Venmaal, the wife and queen of Senkuttuvan. Besides, Silappathikaram registers transgender people as trustworthy. Furthermore, worshiping them in the form of deities and through recording their images, it is clear that the society of the day regarded transgender people as equals without distinction

In the development of Tamil literature, the period in which moral literature originated is called the Moral Era distinctively, which is the same time where many philosophical works of literature refer to the period of origin as the period of philosophical ethics. This study reveals the uniqueness and the generalities of God as claimed in Thirukkural and the God as portrayed in the literature of Thiruvarutpayan that originated in the philosophical period. Grammars are those that characterize literary norms and preserve the richness of language. The separate category of such grammar is the Paattiyal. The earliest of the fully available Paattiyal books by time is the twelve hymns. The three disciplines of epigraphy, terminology, and ethnology consist of 360 volumes. Many Paattiyal books have appeared before this book. None of them are fully available today. The oldest of the texts is the Pannirupaattiyal, the period of which is the tenth century AD. Generally, there are three sections of Paattiyal texts. It is necessary to think about the nature of the compositions, the part that explains the prabandhams, the section on the sequel, the second section that is the grammar of the literary genres, and the nature of the Paattiyal texts
