Ornaments in Silambu
Ornaments are worn in order to enhance the natural beauty. The ornaments worn by the people of the Sangam period were in harmony with their life-style. While we know that both men and women wore ornaments, it is interesting to witness that an epic emerged centralising one particular ornament, i.e., Silambu. Knowing the ornaments wore by the different characters in Silappathikaram and through them understanding the course of the epic are the aim of this work
Versatile of Chekkizhar
Chekkizhar was a great poet in the medieval period of Tamil Nadu. He wrote his master piece work Periya Puranam which has considered as a greatest work in Tamil language. In this work the various skills of Chekkizhar has been exposed. He shows his mastery in the field of literature, fine art, medicine, law and history. As a chief minister of Chola empire he had various skills in the field politics, literature, art and architecture. The poem beautifully records various events in the life of Pallar community. The personal life, agricultural works, religious conditions, belives, economic states, social conditions were beautifly recorded in this work. The feudal conduction at that time and the untouchablity a cruel custom which dominates the society at the time were recorded in this book.
