Ocena jakości życia pacjentów geriatrycznych z chorobą Parkinsona rehabilitowanych i usprawnianych w oddziale psychogeriatrii
Introduction. Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder leading to the gradual deterioration of motor skills and the occurrence of emotional and somatic disorders.
Aim. The objective of this paper is to assess the psychophysical state and quality of life of geriatric patients with Parkinson’s disease who are being rehabilitated at the psychogeriatric department, as well as to get acquainted with this very disease and its course.
Material and Methods. The assessment has involved 100 geriatric patients with Parkinson’s disease. The research tool applied to determine the clinical condition was a questionnaire consisting of the author’s questionnaire, personal information, as well as the Hoehn–Yahr stage and the Polish version of the Short Form Health Survey (SF-36).
Results. The analysis of the conducted research concluded that patients with Parkinson’s disease display a low assessment of their quality of life and an impaired functioning in everyday life. Regarding physical activity, 65% of respondents believe that rehabilitation and regular physical activity have a positive impact on their health and quality of life.
Conclusions. Parkinson’s disease has a negative impact on the psychophysical condition as well as quality of life of patients and limits the performance of everyday activities that require energy. Rehabilitation and physical activity have a positive impact on the health of patients, improving their mental and physical condition and quality of life.Wstęp. Cel.
Materiał i metody. Badanie zostało przeprowadzone wśród 100 pacjentów geriatrycznych z chorobą Parkinsona. Do określenia stanu klinicznego użyto narzędzia badawczego, jakim jest kwestionariusz ankiety, złożony z autorskiego kwestionariusza, metryczki, a także Skali Hoehna–Yahra oraz kwestionariusza oceny jakości życia SF-36, wersja polska.
Wyniki.
Wnioski. Choroba Parkinsona wpływa negatywnie na stan psychofizyczny i jakość życia pacjentów, ogranicza wykonywanie czynności życia codziennego, które wymagają nakładu energii. Rehabilitacja i zajęcia ruchowe wpływa pozytywnie na stan zdrowia chorych, poprawia stan mentalny i fizyczny oraz jakość życia pacjentów
From icing to helipads: CFD-based solutions to contemporary rotorcraft challenges
This paper presents an overview of how computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has been used to address a range of engineering and operational challenges in rotorcraft development. Drawing on the author’s two decades of experience at the Łukasiewicz – Institute of Aviation in Warsaw, Poland, it highlights real-world applications of CFD in rotorcraft-related design and engineering. The case studies discussed include tail rotor icing in an unmanned helicopter, directional instability in a gyroplane, engine nacelle cooling in a modern helicopter, and airflow hazards near rooftop helipads in dense urban settings. Using multiphysics simulations, CFD helps reduce reliance on costly experiments, supports flight safety improvements, and informs regulatory decisions. The paper demonstrates the practical value of CFD as a tool in rotorcraft engineering and planning for urban air operations
The Museum Colonial Complex. Challenges of Decolonization in Central-Eastern Europe upon the Example of the State Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw
The article concerns the beginnings of the history of the State Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw, which were interpreted in the perspective of decolonial museology. Using concepts such as “Polish colonial complex” and “internal European colonization”, the author points to the entanglement of the Museum and ethnography in the network of global colonialism, and at the same time describes the different situation of a country in the Central and Eastern Europe, which did not have the position of an empire and did not established overseas colonies. The last part of the article includes postulates for decolonial activities in museums in this region, where the colonial past and involvement is not as clear and unequivocal as in the case of Western colonial empires
“I Am Unprepared, but I Am Ready”. Voices from the Death Chamber
W swoim tekście Autor pyta o możliwość przygotowania do własnej śmierci, a przedmiotem rozprawy czyni arcydzieło Wiktora Hugo, Ostatni dzień skazańca (Le Derniere Jour d’un condamné, 1829), którego „akcja” dzieje się w realnej celi śmierci. W zakończeniu zestawia swoje uwagi o nieprzygotowaniu do śmierci z opowiadaniem Lwa Tołstoja, Śmierć Iwana Iljicza, w którym śledzi heideggerowską przestrzeń „się” (das Man), oplatającą z wielu stron bohatera opowiadania.Death comes unexpectedly, and it is impossible to prepare oneself for it. Youth knows nothing about death, while old age – an existence whose profound meaning is summarized in “the death chamber”, the apt poetic phrase applied by Tadeusz Różewicz – is closer to thinking about it. Dariusz Czaja asks about the possibility of preparing oneself for one’s death and renders the object of his discourse Victor Hugo’s masterpiece: Le Dernier Jour d’un condamné (1829), whose “plot” takes place in an actual death chamber. He ends by comparing remarks about unpreparedness for death with Leo Tolstoy’s The Death of Ivan Ilyich, in which he follows the Heideggerian space of das Man, embracing the story’s protagonist on all sides
Strategic information and its systemic processing in the space of current scientific discourse
Strategic information is a concept that has been known in management for a long time, but new ideas are constantly being born in the context of its systemic processing. In the following study, the thesis was adopted that the context of current conditions in the environment determines challenges in the field of systemic processing of strategic information. So what is the subject of scientific inquiry today and can any primary areas be identified? The aim of the article is to establish a general framework of the current scientific discourse on strategic information and its systemic processing based on a review of the latest scientific publications and the identification of key threads. In the research part, the method of systematic review of the literature on the subject using the resources of the EBSCO database was used. In the next step, the method of determining nomothetic binary oppositions was used. Such oppositions appear in a set of concepts that synthetically capture the content of individual texts. The procedure used showed that the current leading issues are related to: identifying strategic information resources in previously ignored areas of reality; revealing strategic potential through new information resources; modifying the scope and parameters of information considered strategic; changing the rules of the market game based on the innovative use of information revealing strategic importance
Human, too human? Experience, Learning, Interaction with AI
The contribution addresses the topic of interaction with AI with the aim of investigating the importance of interface characteristics for the acceptance of and interaction with produced innovations, with a special focus on social robotics. While on the one hand the realisation of anthropomorphic products would seem to facilitate interaction, on the other hand the analysis of the literature conducted has revealed ambivalent reactions towards AI applications characterised by traits that are far too like humans. The importance of the contribution lies in emphasising the need to keep the two components, the artificial and the human, separate to foster an interactional and communicational exchange destined to become increasingly frequent in the future, as is already the case in most social contexts. The multiplication of the spheres of interaction between humans and AI embodied in social robots makes it possible to consolidate a partnership with interesting developments from an epistemological point of view and with possible applications in which two intelligences of different natures, organic and inorganic, can for the first time work together to produce knowledge. The pairing of social robots with humans makes it increasingly clear that it is possible to work in integrated and mixed teams composed of different types of actors, which already demonstrate interesting levels of effectiveness in work and training. However, these considerations also give rise to the need to reflect on the training possibilities for individuals and social groups characterised by individuals who are not necessarily adequately prepared to interact with the AI embodied in social robots. Thus, from the scenario outlined emerges the need to review the canonical theoretical frameworks of the sociological tradition, founded on the study of relations between human beings, as a horizon rich in epistemic opportunities is discovered from the emergence of new forms of interaction between human and non-human. Hence the need to search for a theoretical conceptual framework within a phenomenological perspective, declined in this work in a symbolic interactionist key
Bakhtin asserted that Dostoevsky’s most direct link to varieties of ancient Menippea was Christian literature, such as the Gospels or the Apocalypse. However, Bakhtin does not elaborate upon the Menippean aspects of these works which could have served as templates for Dostoevsky’s own. Whereas Bakhtin believed that, “The Menippean forms are based on man’s inability to know and contain his fate,” the case of the Pharisees in the Gospels was a bit more complex. Th e serio-comedy of the Pharisees was created by the ability of the God-man to know and contain their fate. In the end, what Bakhtin termed the “reduced laughter” of Stepan Trofimovich’s case comes from the same source. This paper examines Stepan Trofimovich as the embodiment of the Menippean elements of Jesus’ interactions with the Pharisees in the Gospels, focusing specifically on the journey of Stepan Trofimovich’s idea as it is introduced in “Instead of an Introduction” to its ultimate defeat in his “last peregrination.” Five specific aspects of the Menippea as defined by Bakhtin are employed in the analysis: 1) the absence of epic or tragic distance, with the subject presented on the plane of the present day, 2) the bold and unrestrained use of the fantastic and adventure devoted to a purely ideational and philosophical end, 3) insanity of all sorts, 4) no abstractly philosophical or religiously dogmatic resolution to ultimate questions, rather their embodiment in carnivalistic acts and images, and 5) the creation of an extraordinary plot situation or a provocative anacrisis.
The Evolution of Japanese Engagement in Africa from 1973 to 1993
This article discusses the evolution of Japanese engagement on the African continent between 1973 and 1993. It highlights the primary causes of the change in Japan’s approach to Africa and examines the actions and decisions taken by the Tokyo government. Japan’s official development assistance to the African continent remains an important aspect. The article highlights the United States’ role and its administration’s approach toward China in the early 1970s. This, along with the first Oil Shock in 1973, significantly influenced Japan’s perception of its own foreign policy. Japanese initiatives aimed at increasing engagement on the African continent are also discussed by the author. The shift in Japan’s perception of African countries, from indifference to verbal lobbying on the international stage, will play a crucial role. The United Nations is a significant player in this regard. Japan’s foreign policy towards the African continent is most effectively guided by the creation of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development in 1993, which is the article’s conclusion
On Theological, Philosophical and Sociological Themes
The article is the report of an attempt to connect Manlio Sgalambro, philosopher and theologian, standard-bearer of "negative theology", with Luigi Moraldi, hermeneutist and exegete of the "gnostic texts", who was part of the international team of translation of the Nag-Hammadi manuscripts. The meeting did not take place, but it remains a correspondence of great interest both for the contents it deals with and for the specific approaches of the two great intellectuals on the subject that, even in the present of this 21st century, continues to be overwhelming for the general system of knowledge
Coincidents
There are at least two notions of coincidents: a narrower one — proposed by Zdzisław Augustynek and introduced into the ontology of spacetime – and an adequate one, which — despite the lack of its definition — corresponds to point objects in physics. In this article, we (1) reconstruct the definition of narrower coincidents and (2) discuss their specific types. Next, (3) we draw attention to the problem with this understanding of the term “coincident” and make an attempt to extend the notion of coincident so that its legitimacy comes not from metaphysics but from physics. Finally, (4) we consider the status of coincidents — both narrower and adequate ones – in ontologies other than point-eventism
