    A Gender-Based Perspective on the Publication Performance of Female Academicians in Information and Document Management Departments in Türkiye: The TRDizin Example

    Bu çalışmada, Türkiye’deki Bilgi ve Belge Yönetimi (BBY) bölümlerinde görev yapan akademisyenlerin bilimsel üretkenliklerini toplumsal cinsiyet temelli bir bakış açısıyla incelenmektedir. Araştırma kapsamında, akademik dergileri sistematik biçimde tarayan ve açık erişim sağlayan en kapsamlı ulusal dizinlerden biri olan TRDizin tercih edilmiştir. Bu tercih, TRDizin’in Türkiye'de üretilen akademik bilgiye erişimi kolaylaştırması, dergilerin görünürlüğünü artırması ve Yükseköğretim Kurulu (YÖK) ile Üniversitelerarası Kurul (ÜAK) tarafından atama ve yükseltme süreçlerinde resmi olarak kabul edilmesinden kaynaklanmaktadır. Çalışmada yer alan kadın akademisyenlerin belirlenmesinde Yükseköğretim Kurulu Başkanlığı’nın 2024 yılına ait Yükseköğretim Program Atlası (YÖK Atlas) verileri temel alınmıştır. Bu verilere göre Türkiye genelindeki BBY bölümlerinde 62’si kadın ve 75’i ise erkek toplam 137 akademisyen görev yapmaktadır Araştırma kapsamında, akademisyenlerin cinsiyetlerine göre dağılımları, unvanlara göre sınıflandırılmaları, TRDizin verileri üzerinden yayın performansları, yayın türlerinin kadın ve erkek akademisyenler arasında dağılımı, yazar rolleri, atıf göstergeleri ve kendine atıf oranları analiz edilmiştir. Ayrıca, akademik kadronun cinsiyet bazlı H-indeks değerleri, yayınların yer aldığı dergiler ve bu dergilerin yüzdelik payları ile akademisyenlerin yürüttüğü projeler değerlendirilerek alandaki bilimsel üretkenliğin toplumsal cinsiyet bağlamında farklılaşıp farklılaşmadığı ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular doğrultusunda BBY alanında toplumsal cinsiyet temelli yayın performansına dair literatüre katkı sağlamayı amaçlamaktadır. Ayrıca, üniversitelerde toplumsal cinsiyete duyarlı politika geliştirilmesine yönelik öneriler sunularak, kadın akademisyenlerin bilimsel görünürlüğünün ve katkılarının artırılmasına yönelik stratejilere ışık tutulması hedeflenmektedir. Bu yönüyle çalışma hem mevcut durumun değerlendirilmesine hem de ileride yapılacak karşılaştırmalı araştırmalara zemin hazırlayacak niteliktedir

    Materials for Biosensor Designation of DNA Comet Assay for Radiotherapy Patients’ Exposure Monitoring

The comet assay, a widely used technique to detect DNA strand breaks at the single-cell level, is recognized for its sensitivity and adaptability in radiation biodosimetry. However, enhancing the throughput, sensitivity, and automation of the assay is vital for clinical applications. The innovations presented in material selection, sensor design, and automation mark a significant step forward in the use of the comet assay for radiation exposure monitoring, paving the way for personalized medicine approaches in radiotherapy and beyond.     Nurse-Led Transfer Programme With Patient Relatives: Effect on Reducing Transfer Anxiety in Intensive Care Unit Patients

    Background: The transfer of patients from intensive care units (ICUs) to general wards often causes significant anxiety, negatively impacting recovery, well-being and increasing the risk of readmission. Aim: This study was aimed to evaluate the impact of 'Nurse-led Transfer Programme with Patient Relatives' on anxiety and haemodynamic parameters in patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery (CVS) who are being transferred from the ICU to a general ward. Study Design: This monocentric, non-randomised quasi-experimental study was conducted on 150 patients hospitalised in CVS-ICU. Before transfer, patients' anxiety levels were assessed using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-I) and vital signs were recorded. Then, the transferring with a patient relative intervention was implemented, and the patient was assessed by the nurse immediately before the transfer and 30-60 min after the transfer. Results: Patients in the nurse-led patient relatives transfer group showed significantly lower state anxiety scores immediately before (34.3 +/- 5.3 vs. 61.3 +/- 2.5) and after transfer (28.5 +/- 2.4 vs. 33.4 +/- 3.1) than in the control group (p < 0.001). After controlling for baseline anxiety and ICU stay duration, the intervention had a significant effect on anxiety levels (Pillai's trace = 0.926; F = 1739.3; p < 0.001). Although vital signs also improved significantly within groups over time, between-group differences were not clinically substantial. Conclusions: The findings suggest that the Nurse-led Transfer Programme with patient relatives effectively reduces patients' anxiety during and after transfer from ICU to the general ward, thereby supporting the provision of holistic care to both patients and their families. Relevance to Clinical Practice: Involving relatives in ICU-to-ward transfers may ease patient anxiety and improve transitions. Nurse-led programmes with family presence support holistic care and can be integrated into discharge protocols to enhance outcomes and continuity

Vergi idaresi, takdir komisyonunun katma değer vergisi indirimine ilişkin talepleri reddetme yetkisinin olduğu yönünde bir yaklaşım sergilemektedir. Bazı mahkeme kararlarında da katma değer vergisi indirimlerinin reddine dair işlem, takdir komisyonunun matrah takdir etme görevi kapsamında değerlendirilmektedir. İdarenin ve mahkemelerin bu yöndeki değerlendirmelerine katılmamakta ve takdir komisyonlarının katma değer vergisi indirimini reddetme yetkisinin bulunmadığını düşünmekteyiz. Söz konusu bu düşüncemizi temellendirebilmek amacıyla öncelikle takdir komisyonları ve katma değer vergisi indirimi hakkında bilgi verilecek ve böylece takdir komisyonlarının katma değer vergisi indirimleri yönündeki talepleri reddetme yetkisinin olmadığı hususu ortaya konulmaya çalışılacaktır

    Is Transauricular Vagus Nerve Stimulation the Spark for Modulation of Synaptic Alterations in Ulcerative Colitis?

    ObjectiveThe group of diseases that include Crohn's disease and Ulcerative colitis, characterized by chronic inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract, is called inflammatory bowel disease. It still cannot be treated adequately with the treatment methods, including surgery. Our study aimed to investigate the effect of transcutaneous auricular vagal nerve stimulation (tVNS) on inflammation in colonic tissue and synaptic proteins in the enteric nervous system in rats with experimentally induced colitis.MethodsIn our study, 9 (total 36) male Sprague-Dawley albino (180-230 g) rats representing four groups were used. Groups: The Sham group was determined as the Sham + tVNS group, Colitis group, and Colitis + tVNS group. The Sham group was intracolonic injected with saline. The Colitis group was intracolonic injected with trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS). TVNS was performed in animals for 30 min, 2 times daily for ten consecutive days. Enteric nervous system synapse structures were evaluated using the immunohistochemical method.ResultsAs a result of the study, we can say that in general, the number of Neuroligin-1 and Neurexin-2 alpha positive cells and immunoreactivity percentages were significantly decreased in the TNBS-induced colitis groups compared to the sham groups, while they increased in the tVNS-applied groups. The results suggest that tVNS supports neuronal recovery while treating inflammation in the colon.ConclusionOur study is the first in the literature to show the effects of tVNS on ENS synapse formation.     Hormone Therapy and Oral Medications in Breast Cancer

    About 80% of cases of breast cancer have expression of the estrogen receptor (ER). Estrogen is the primary cause of cancer cell growth in ER-positive malignancies. The ER enters the nucleus upon binding estrogen and binds to DNA to trigger the production of estrogen target genes, ultimately resulting in the advancement of the cell cycle. The gold standard for treating ER-positive breast cancer is estrogen deprivation, which involves using hormone therapy to stop the body from producing estrogen or from allowing estrogen to bind to the receptor. Although endocrine therapy (ET) has proven effective, low-grade side effects may reduce quality of life in the long term.     Effects of kettlebell exercise training on functional capacity and metabolic costs of activities of daily living in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension: A randomized controlled trial

    Aims Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is characterized by exercise intolerance, dyspnea and fatigue symptoms. Therefore, PAH patients may experience more inconvenience performing activities of daily living (ADL). The aim of this study was to examine the effects of Kettlebell exercise training (KET) on functional capacity, metabolic cost and cardiovascular responses in PAH patients during ADL. Methods Thirty-two PAH patients were separated into the intervention Group (IG) or control group (CG). The IG participated in KET, 3 days/week for 8 weeks, and the CG received no exercise program. Responses were measured using a mobile ergospirometer during the 6-min walk test (6MWT) and ADLs. Peripheral muscle strength was evaluated using a hand dynamometer; dyspnea with the Modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) and London Chest Activity of Daily Living (LCADL); fatigue with the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS); physical activity with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF); anxiety and depression with the Hospital Anxiety-Depression Scale (HADS); quality of life with the EmPHasis-10, and sleep quality with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Results The IG showed significant improvement in 6MWT (p < 0.01), task oxygen uptake (p = 0.02) and peakVO(2) (p < 0.01). Relative task-related oxygen uptake (% of peakVO(2)) and dyspnea improved in ADLs (p < 0.05). Peripheral muscle strength significantly improved (p < 0.05). Significant improvements were seen in the EmPHasis-10, FSS, mMRC, IPAQ-SF, HADS-A and HADS-D scores (p < 0.05). Conclusion KET improved functional capacity, quality of life, peripheral muscle strength, fatigue, dyspnea, physical activity level, anxiety and depression in PAH patients and reduced dyspnea in many activities of daily life

    Is the use of vaginal progesterone a factor in pregnant women diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus?

    OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectofvaginal progesterone used to prevent spontaneous preterm birth in the development of gestational diabetes mellitus. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study that investigated pregnant women aged 18-39 years. The study participants underwent a 2-h, 75-g oral glucose tolerance test at 24 and 28 weeks of gestation. A total of 3,066 patients met the inclusion criteria, and 418 were diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus based on at least one abnormal plasma glucose value during screening. The remaining 2,648 patients, who had normal plasma glucose levels, were classified as the control group. The two groups were compared based on various factors, including age, parity, pre-pregnancy body mass index, smoking status, gestational age, and use of vaginal progesterone. RESULTS: The use of vaginal progesterone was statistically significant at a higher rate in the gestational diabetes mellitus group compared to the control group (22.0 vs. 16.0%; p=0.002). The mean duration of vaginal progesterone use was 53.4 +/- 14.6 days (ranging from 28 to 90 days), and this duration was statistically significantly longer in the gestational diabetes mellitus group (59.9 +/- 14.8 vs. 52.0 +/- 14.2; p<0.001). CONCLUSION: The findings suggest that the use ofvaginal progesterone may increase the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus, and the risk appears to rise with the duration of progesterone use. It is important to consider that patients on prolonged vaginal progesterone, particularly those started early in pregnancy, may be at increased risk of diabetes. Therefore, it may be advisable to repeat the oral glucose tolerance test performed at 24-28 weeks in the following weeks
