CLIMATE CHANGE, FARMERS’ ADAPTATION CAPACITY AND CROPS PRODUCTION: A DISAGGREGATED MICRO-LEVEL STUDY FROM SOUTHERN PUNJAB, PAKISTAN
The present study aims at providing insights, based on disaggregated micro-level surveyed data, about the climate resilient crop production strategies available for small, medium and big landholder farmers by investigating a number of micro-level factors – ranging from socio-economic to demographic – that assess the farmers’ capability for the adaptation of climate change strategies. This research study gradually maintains three contemplation in the analysis: primarily; the study focuses on the nexus between climate change and crops production, Secondly; study estimates the impact of climate change adaptation strategies on crops production, Thirdly, the novelty of the study lies in putting forward the economic, social and demographic factors which envisages that how the farmers can enhance their capacity to become more effective in adapting the strategies. Our conclusive findings suggest that, for the farmers producing crops at small scale, the farmers’ health and medical treatment, education level, gender, marital status, land ownership, and access to market are the significant factors augment farmers’ adaption capacity to climate change, while for the farmers producing crops at a significantly lagers scale, their experience does matter. The study would be helpful in suggesting prudent policy on agriculture crops production that on which grounds the different farmers, who have some different level of crop production and farm size, can be provided opportunities to limit the devastating effects of climate change in Pakistan

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE KARTARPUR CORRIDOR: PAKISTAN’S COMPLIENCE WITH INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS RELATING PROTECTION OF THE RIGHTS OF RELIGIOUS MINORITIES
Historically, Pakistan has remained on the list of countries failing to meet international standards relating freedom of thought, conscience, and religion or belief. Although, the constitutional and domestic legal structure of Pakistan provide rights to religious minorities, yet government remains less interested in the implementation of such rights. Moreover, restrictions on the rights of religious minorities and social pressure of the religiously dominance society have been forcing the religious minorities to step back from claiming their constitutional rights. Despite, being signatory to many international instruments relating rights of minorities, Pakistan has never reached to a level to claim obligation of those international standards. Kartarpur corridor for Sikh pilgrims which has been widely acknowledged for giving a new dimension and a positive development towards the protection of the rights of minorities, as well as improved Indo-Pak relations. Keeping in view the positive response it is expected that it would lead to provide minorities a good-will gesture and pave the way for better diplomatic relations and increased trade between India and Pakistan. This paper investigates the significance of the Kartarpur Corridor in the context of Pakistan’s Efforts to Oblige International Standards Relating Protection of the Rights of Religious Minorities. This paper explores the expected outcomes of the project in the context of the protection of the rights of religious minorities and symbolic significance of the project by employing religious diplomacy as a mean to develop improved trade and diplomatic relations
WHY THEY KEEP SILENCE: A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW
It is of essential importance for organization to sense errors in their strategies and frameworks and to transform as per their needs. Subsequently, they apportion extraordinary amount of their budgets for such assessments yet these attempts regularly fail as the employees who are exposed to such lope holes directly, don\u27t uncover or express any data with respect to these shortcomings. Therefore, organizational spending is worthless. This state of being expressionless observant towards organizational issues is named as "Organizational Silence". This study has assessed a large portion of the literature to find out antecedents such circumstances
BOARD COMMITTEE’S CHARACTERISTICS AND SELLING, GENERAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE COST BEHAVIOR: EVIDENCE FROM PAKISTAN
This study aims to provide further evidence on asymmetric cost behavior from one of the emerging economies, Pakistan. The study provides also empirical evidence on the potential impact of board committee’s characteristics on nature and magnitude of asymmetric cost behavior. This study develops three multiple regression models through the use of panel data fixed model to examine the behavior of Selling, General and Administration cost (SG&A) and the influence of board committee’s characteristics and other control variables in a sample of 86 listed companies during 2014-2018. The analysis provides evidence on SG&A asymmetric behavior, where the analysis finds that SG&A increase by rupees 0.20 but decrease by rupees 1.17 for an equivalent activity change of 1 rupee. These findings are inconsistent with the traditional assumption that views costs as behaving in a linear fashion. Moreover, the study also revealsthat firmyear observations with Average Number of Members in Committee (ANMC) overlapped members in Remuneration and Audit Committee (OMC) Board Compensation (BC) exhibit cost asymmetry. However, higher economic growth and institutional ownership found to exhibit greater cost stickiness. The findings of this study offer new evidence on SG&A asymmetric cost behavior from an emerging economy. Additionally, the findings of the study bridge a large gap in literature on the association among corporate governance and SG&A asymmetric cost behavio
PORTFOLIO OPTIMIZATION WITH MEAN-VARIANCE & MEAN-CVAR: EVIDENCE FROM PAKISTAN STOCK MARKET
The stock market in any country plays a significant role in economic development through saving mobilization and providing diversification opportunities. The investors and wealth managers always looked for those securities, investment to which leads towards maximum returns. The Markowitz portfolio optimization model is based on risk and reward trade off where the returns are measured with Mean and Variance is used as proxy of risk. The framework is criticized due to its normality of returns assumption and in case of non-elliptical distribution the optimization results may lead towards suboptimal portfolios. In emerging markets, returns are attributed to high volatility, low liquidity and increased market concentration. Such volatile phenomena signify the presence of downside risk. The expected shortfall or CVaR has reported ability to measure loss beyond VaR and regarded as coherent risk measure. This study investigated the impact on asset pricing of PSX stocks with Mean Variance and Mean-CVaR model by analyzing KSE100 index stocks for the time period 2009-2018. The empirical findings of the in sample performance of Mean-CVaR optimization for non-normal stocks indicated higher Sharpe ratio while for normal stocks return data portfolio selection and optimization with MV model SR is higher. The results of this study are useful for the investors and fund managers to understand PSX behavior and in selection of optimal portfolios
FACTORS AFFECTING BANKERS’ BEHAVIORAL INTENTIONS TO ADOPT GREEN BANKING IN PAKISTAN: AN EMPIRICAL STUDY
It is evident from the historical facts and scientific studies that human beings are the major reason behind the rising global temperatures due to their detrimental act of releasing greenhouse (or heat-trapping) gases for meeting their increasing demands of energy for domestic and industrial usage. As a result, since the start of the industrial revolution, average global temperature has been increased by one degree Celsius. Hence, there is a growing realization of undertaking extraordinary endeavors for a sustainable environment management around the globe and the organizations have started to invest efforts on minimizing their carbon footprints and considering their environmental impact. In the financial sector, banks can play a pivotal role in reducing the unfavorable environmental impact by introducing Green banking. However, despite the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) Green banking adoption guidelines, no bank has adopted Green banking completely. This attracts research on identifying the factors that influence bankers’ behavioral intentions to adopt Green banking (BIAGB). Hence, the current study aims to highlight the most influential factors which influence bankers’ BIAGB. With regard to this, the data was collected from 300 respondents on a structured questionnaire based on a 7 point Likert scale. The findings indicate that potential for profitability (PP), Management Commitment and Support (MCS), and Corporate Social Responsibility / Image Improvement (CSR) contribute in predicting bankers’ BIAGB. On the basis of these findings, the study implies that with such knowledge of bankers’ BIAGB, banks can adopt Green banking practices (GBP) more swiftly than ever befor
IS GREED REWARDED? DEVELOPING HEURISTICS FOR GREEDY INVESTORS USING UPPER PARTIAL MOMENTS
Rules of thumb play an important role in making investment decisions. This study gives the rule of a thumb/heuristic known as “Pleonexia rule” based on the trait of greed of an investor. The heuristic in the paper is developed using the Upper partial moment (UPM) ratio, which is based on upside risk only, nonrestrictive to normal distribution and risk-taking and risk-neutral investors can be accommodated. Portfolios are formed by using the monthly prices taken from Pakistan Stock Exchange for the period from Dec 1999 to June 2018. Two staged methodology is proposed for the development and empirical testing of the Pleonexia rule. At first stage forecasted the probabilities to know whether it is possible to develop such type of rule or not. At second stage the Pleonexia rule is developed and tested by using the probabilities. The results reveal that on average there are above 90% chances that the investors get minimum returns or gains by meeting the benchmark which is PSX-100 index. Moreover, greed is not rewarded because there is less probability of getting gains higher than the optimal level. These results are better for the developing countries like Pakista
