Gust muzyczny polskich muzyków na podstawie wyników Konkursu Piosenki Eurowizji

    No full text
The article shows the results of research of the musical taste of Polish musicians based on the analysis of their verdicts in the Eurovision Song Contest. Poles made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994. At that time, the winners were chosen only by the jurors, but from 1998 to 2008 they were mainly chosen by the viewers. Since 2009 the winner has been chosen by the jurors and the viewers. According to Pierre Bourdieu’s theory, juries are composed of members of the dominant class (Warnerian approach) or the middle class (Holtian approach). The audience is a mixture of the dominant, middle, and low class. Based on this theory, the music taste of the jurors should be very different from the music taste of the audience. The author checks whether this is true and concludes that the theory of aesthetic omnivorism better explains the contemporary distribution of tastes than Pierre Bourdieu’s theory.W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki badań gustu muzycznego polskich muzyków na podstawie analizy ich werdyktów w Konkursie Piosenki Eurowizji.

Between sales mechanism and medium: Art in the age of blockchain and NFT

    No full text
The text considers the status of NFT artwork and how it is affected by its close relationship with blockchain. Doubts about the media character of NFT art are raised. Two perspectives are juxtaposed: one that denies NFT art the status of a medium and treats it as a certificate of authenticity and ownership for sales purposes (Richard Vigniel, Dave Krugman), and another according to which the meaning and value of NFT art can only emerge when the NFT is not solely a sales mechanism but becomes a medium of art (Christiane Paul). In the former case, the media and artistic nature of NFT-related works will be determined outside the blockchain platform and the NFT. The author, referring to the selected works of Eve Sussman and Masaki Fujihata, points out that the two aspects can be combined, and the deconstructed sales mechanism can become a medium for NFT art. The question of whether this is the only possible kind of NFT media art remains open

Psychiatric disorders in handwriting: A review

    No full text
Handwriting is a complex process that involves multiple regions of the brain and motor functions at its functional core. Throughout these neurobiological functions, psychological, cognitive, and emotional processes are engaged, making handwriting a unique trait of the individual, much like their personality. This is the reason why handwriting is such important scientific evidence in forensic investigations, however, its role could go beyond that and deeper into medical practice, as recent literature suggests. Although the basic patterns of handwriting remain fundamentally the same, the mental and emotional state of an individual might change some aspects and content of his or her writing. In some cases, traits might be proportionally linked to certain psychiatric disorders. This paper proposes a review of the physiological and psychological alterations that affect handwriting and analyses the possibility of using handwriting as a tool in clinical practice, diagnosis, and follow-up of patients, as well as an instrument that objectifies forensic psychiatric diagnostics. &nbsp

LTC private insurance — premium challenges in the context of the feminization of old-age — case of Poland

    No full text
The article addresses the problem of fi nancing the risk of long-term care in old age using private insurance as a challenge for the Polish market — due to the lack of systemic solutions in Poland for taking on old-age LTC risk, and the still low level of total expenditure on LTC risk. Attention was focused on the issue of the cost of private LTC insurance in the context of the feminization of old age — as a factor infl uencing both demand and supply. Therefore, the research issue is the empirical analysis of the pure premium as determining the cost basis of the instrument, taking into account diff erences in life expectancy and the risk of old-age dependency due to age, as factors determining the risk, but also the potential interest in purchasing an instrument and the need for the insurer to calculate the premium in a unisex formula. The aim is to check whether the cost of risk management in the private LTC insurance formula would be acceptable, considering the age at which the decision to purchase it was made. The main finding is the identification of a demand barrier for individual private LTC products related to the high cost of such insurance in relation to average incomes. The contribution exceeds the ceiling of 10% of the average net salary (this is the amount that should be voluntarily transferred from the income received) for Polish women and men aged 45 and over. On the other hand, the insurer would have to significantly increase the pure premium based on unisex life tables to maintain a safe and profi table portfolio structure. If the pure premium is left at the average level for gender, the profi tability of the portfolio is maintained only up to a maximum of 40% of women’s share, and yet women should (for social and demographic reasons) be the main recipients of this product

The article presents a perspective on the contemporary employment crisis from the viewpoint of managing generational diversity. The research findings presented are also supported by continuous observation of the situation and transformations in the Polish labor market. Reality (in which we live) is changing faster than ever in history. Every day, we implement new technologies, develop advanced technological solutions, and enhance artificial intelligence. The recent years have been a period of permanent crisis, examples of which can be found in most areas of socioeconomic life. The crisis affecting the labor market, particularly in the employment process, is at least partially caused by the lack of popularization of the concept of managing generational diversity at a time when representatives of up to four generations, extremely different from each other, are interacting simultaneously.

The paper addresses the question of whether it is possible to secure information about a listed architectural object when it is comprehensively renovated with regard to specific functional uses. The subject of the consideration is the seat of the Historical Institute of the University of Wrocław – a building complex with a multifaceted history that has undergone thorough renovation and conservation work in recent years. The origins of the complex date back to the turn of the 13th to 14th century, and it has experienced changes in almost every subsequent century. At the end of the 19th century, the complex received its current form as a four-winged structure with a courtyard in the middle and a facade facing Szewska Street. This renovation, which adapted the buildings to the needs of a police headquarters, was intended to erase the traces of the complex’s older, historical functions. However, the current renovation works have brought to light numerous valuable relics from each phase of its use. The article discusses methods for the visual representation of an architectural object and its elements, which facilitate the preservation of information obtained during renovation works for potential use in the HBIM environment

The present study is an attempt at reconstructing the role of the Silesian Province in German defense and operational concepts during the German Empire. This subject has thus far not attracted much scholarly attention due to the destruction and dispersal of a considerable amount of archival materials, the focus on planning issues regarding the Western Front, and the fact that any considerations relating to Silesia as an element of the German defense system were overshadowed by the idea of using East Prussia as a launching pad for the future deployment of troops. Past research perspectives have also been dominated by the point of view of operational planning and a very narrow perspective of the history of Silesian fortresses. Based and new sources, the article discusses the issues of Silesia as an area of defense and operational planning, taking into account all the factors mentioned above
