The article concerns the effects of the Resolution of the Prussian Parliament of 14th October 1919, according to which, before the Plebiscite envisaged in the Treaty of Versailles, the Opole (Oppeln) district (Regierungsbezirk) was separated from the Province of Silesia and given the status of the Province of Upper Silesia, and the Province of Lower Silesia was created from the merged Wrocław (Breslau) and Legnica (Liegnitz) districts. After the Plebiscite, in accordance with the decision of the Council of Ambassadors of 20th October 1921, the Plebiscite area was divided and the portions of the Upper Silesian and Lower Silesian Provinces (from the border region of Wrocław) were assigned to Germany and Poland according to decision made on 10th July 1922. As a result of the Act of the Prussian Parliament of 25th July 1923, two separate Provinces of Upper Silesia and Lower Silesia were established, but the division of the property of the former Province of Silesia between them was decided by the Act of 26th October 1926

The present paper aims to investigate the evolution of political views in perhaps the most talented Polish political author of the Enlightenment. The research covers the period from the Four-Year Sejm to the Duchy of Warsaw era. The author utilized two most important of Kołłątaj’s memorials written in the 19th century: Nil desperandum [Do Not Despair] and Postrzeżenia nad Ustawą Konstytucyjną Księstwa Warszawskiego [Remarks Concerning the Constitutional Act of the Duchy of Warsaw]. When analysing the aforementioned evolution, politics of the time and goals of the Jacobins were taken into account. Kołłątaj undoubtedly supported the achievements of the French Revolution, in particular the social ones. He wished that a larger part of the society should have access to state offices, not only the top noblemen. His progressive views notwithstanding, he was of the opinion that in the case of Poland, the best political system would be monarchy limited through constitution. A postulate that the Polish throne should fall to the House of Wettin also stemmed from the Four-Year Sejm times

This article is a study of the emotional and evaluative aspects of the journalistic style based on the speeches of the public prosecutor at the three Moscow trials of 1935–1938, A. Ya. Vyshinsky. Particular attention is paid to the characteristics of the pragmalinguistic approach, which determined the effectiveness of the propaganda language of the Soviet era. It was established that all the regularities of pragmalinguistic influence are present in speeches: expression of positive and negative emotional appraisal, actualization of evaluative semantics, sensitization, irony. The typical methods of contrast, repetitions to enhance the illocutionary effect of exposure are noted. The revealed pragmatic and semantic patterns can be used in the analysis of modern political discourse, in the development of the concepts of stylistics and translation, as well as in lexicographic practice and teaching Russian as a foreign language.
