The goal of this study was to explore the effects of gamification on a short course that aimed to develop soft skills among students of a vocational school in Sabah. English language was used as the medium of instruction during the task and four target grammatical forms were integrated into the gamified context: sequence connectors, conditionals, modal verbs and sentence construction. The gamified context consisted of four levels where the students were expected to solve the challenge before moving to the next level.  The gamified activities were named “Zombie Challenge Series” since its narrative derived from the popularity of zombie in the entertainment and technology industry. There were several game elements that were incorporated into the task. The students were interviewed in order to elicit their perception related to the gamified activities. The findings showed that the students became more aware of the linguistic features that they were expected to use and the cognitive skills needed to solve the challenges. They became more motivated to learn and they were able to develop their soft skills better

A STUDY ON FEMALE LABOR FORCE PARTICIPATION IN INDIA

    Get PDF
The prediction of the neoclassical theory of HR suggests that increase in women’s education and literacy levels should generally result in a rise in the female labor force participation. As per the report of census in 2010, an inversely proportional relationship is been seen between them. This is also known as the U-shaped relationship that exists between the female literacy levels and workforce participation rates.  In India, the Female Labor Force Participation (FLFP) rate remains extremely low at around 27% in comparison with the male labor force participation rate, which is around 79.9%. In the recent years, India has seen this trend of vanishing women workforce, which was opposite from what was predicted due to the increase in female literacy level. According to an IMF (International Monetary Fund) research it is predicted that the Indian economy can be boosted by 27%, if the participation of women in the workforce is increased to that of the level of men. India is still a patriarchal society, and even if the women are working, they are still expected to contribute to their household chores and duties. This creates a demotivating factor and lack of enthusiasm to overtake more responsibilities in their workplace. In spite of providing flexible work hours, the employees effectiveness in Indian working scenario is still judged on the basis of long working hours, the tendency to travel for work, which is not that much feasible for any middle class working female. The objective of this study is to identify certain cultural and structural factors that has contributed in this inversely proportional relationship

    Get PDF
This paper looks into the contemporary art practice in Pakistan and tries to cognize feminist art and feminist aesthetics in local context with a belief that feminist aesthetics ultimately answers the issues of feminism itself. In its broader scope the study looks at the works of selected women artists, most of them actively involved with the Women Action Forum (WAF), in order to theorize feminist aesthetics which must re-define feminism and feminist’s concerns in the present day Pakistan where like elsewhere women affairs have become a pertinent issue. The paper negates the popular notion that feminist art must address the controversial issues of ‘social morality’ and/or it is all about agendas of the leftists against any established cultural norms. Feminist art in Pakistan exhibits a flavor of its own which is somewhat different than the Western notions. &nbsp

    Get PDF
At The Training Center for The National Cyber and Crypto Agency, at the end of every course programs, the students are given a task to write scientific papers. Then those papers must be ratified by the seminar committee using their wet signatures as a sign of ratification of documents. But the drawback of using wet signatures is that often difficult to get committee signatures as they are not always in the office. To overcome this problem, we'll discuss the uses of digital signature for student's papers ratification. This research begins by describing a digital signature and how it can replace a wet signature. Then we present the design of a scheme for implementing a digital signature that can be applied for papers authentication and ratification. Retrieval of the research data is done through in-depth observations in the process of ratifying student's scientific papers at The Training Center for The National Cyber and Crypto Agency. The result of this study is the application of digital signatures as a substitute solution for wet signatures on student’s scientific papers ratification

MORPHOSYNTACTIC FEATURES OF ADVERBIAL CLAUSES IN ROMANCE LANGUAGES -CONSEQUENCES OF LANGUAGE CONTACT OR LATIN INHERITANCE?-

    Get PDF
The starting point of the present paper is a simple question: To what extent do linguistic facts encountered in Romanian exist in other Romance varieties? In order to answer this question, I put forward a cross-linguistic study of the Romance languages that aims at an interdisciplinary effort, a perspective that is going to add new and useful information to the literature, especially at the international level, that lacks, in many cases, examples from Romanian. On the basis of an original media discourse corpus, collected from three Romance varieties (Romanian, Italian and French), I advance a comparative perspective, focused on the connectors of the complex sentences. Since the aim of this paper is neither to defend/to contradict some linguistic theory of the syntactic variation, nor to develop a new grammatical theory, the focus will be on the description of the identified linguistic data, and on the motivation of their existence/absence in the three related languages
