AN ANALYSIS OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CHRISTIAN FAITH AND MENTAL WELLBEING UTILIZING ITEM RESPONSE THEORY
There is a growing concern that more and more American university students suffer from mental distress or disorder. Numerous prior studies have confirmed religious faith and practice to be a promising avenue for alleviating mental problems. Using item response theory (IRT), the current study aimed to verify this assertion with a sample of 436 university students. In this study, the independent variable is faith status/church attendance, which consists of four categories: “I continue to attend church and have faith in Christ,” “I still attend church but have serious doubts of my faith in Christ,” “I have not attended church for over one year but I maintain my faith in Christ,” and “I am not attending church and have abandoned my faith in Christ.” The dependent variable is the IRT’s theta score derived from measures of mental issues in multiple dimensions, including anxiety, depression, loneliness, sadness, suicide attempts, anorexia, etc. For the entire sample, it was found that Christian faith and church attendance must be present together to generate a protective effect against mental distress. Participants who claimed themselves as faithful but did not attend church could not benefit from Christianity as a protective factor. When the sample was divided by gender and race, attending church and keeping faith active still protected students against mental diseases, but the magnitudes varied
STUDENTS’ BEHAVIOURAL PATTERNS ON BACHELOR’S DEGREE CHOICES IN SRI LANKA: HEURISTICS?
At present National university intake in Sri Lanka has become progressively competitive due to the limited number of placements. Consequently, several private higher educational institutes (PHEIs) in Sri Lanka entered into the higher education market with various international degree programmes of top-ranked foreign universities to cater to the need of university-level education in Sri Lanka. Therefore, this study attempts to uncover the behavioural patterns of students in selecting a Bachelor’s degree (BD) from International Degree Programmes which emerged recently in Sri Lanka. Subsequently, the data for the study were collected by 420 first-year students of International Degree Programmes by administering a questionnaire with 59 predefined variables. Of those, 36 variables and 42 variables were identified as the most influential variables by factor analysis for the male and female group respectively. Thereby, it has determined that 'marketing strategy', 'university characteristics', 'infrastructure facilities', 'programme evaluation' and 'reputation of the university' were the common influential factors for both the groups but with different orders of importance. Alternatively, the 'peer' and 'sources of information' are rated as influential in selecting a BD only by the male group. Even though the female group have not remarked any 'information sources’ as influential, they rated the 'first impression' of the PHEI impact them in selecting the BD. However, 'financial support' and 'cost' are influential factors for the male group while 'cost' is not imperative for the female students in selecting their BD. Finally, higher education student-choice model was developed based on the heuristics of Sri Lankan students. Indeed the results of this study can be beneficial in optimising the enrolment strategies of PHEIs in Sri Lanka and in guiding prospective students on their BD choices in higher education.

THE BACHELOR OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS TOWARDS THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN ENHANCED CURRICULUM
This research study has two main foci: the analysis of the Bachelor of Physical Education curriculum of five selected Higher Education Institutions and analysis of the responses of the interviews that spelled out the Bachelor of Physical Education Program towards its enhancement. The five curricula that were reviewed were designed in their unique way because they were based on the vision, mission, goals and objectives of the school. Similarities and differences were analyzed to find out the status of the curricula. Based on the interviews conducted, all five schools agreed to increase the number of Professional Education subjects. They all agreed also to include sports, dance, sports coaching and officiating subject to strengthen their program and to prepare their students to become competent Physical Education educators in the future. It was found out that their curricula for Bachelor of Physical Education had provided a wide and clear understanding of Physical Education needed by the students. It was also found out that the best practices in the said Higher Education Institutions could be derived from a thorough analysis of their similarities and differences in their curricular offerings to develop an enhanced curriculum for Bachelor of Physical Education for Teachers
THE CLASSROOM PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT AS A “THIRD TEACHER” FOR AN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION PROVISION IN THE GA-WEST MUNICIPALITY OF GHANA
In spite of what literature has said about the relevance of the classroom environment and the fact that it can serve as the “Third teacher” in ECE provision, available data shows a lack of infrastructure in most Early Childhood Education (ECE) centres in sub-Saharan Africa, including Ghana. The purpose of this study therefore, was to ascertain a first-hand information about the state of the classroom environment of the ECE centres in the Ga-West Municipality of Ghana and how it was serving as a third teacher for quality ECE provision. Using the convergent design (previously referred to as concurrent triangulation) mixed methods approach, data in the form of questionnaire, interview and observation were collected from 142 participants comprising four ECE circuit coordinators, 130 ECE teachers and four headteachers drawn from 20 schools within the Ga-West Municipality in Greater Accra Region of Ghana. The findings showed some general infrastructural problems in the form of inappropriate furniture, unresourced learning centres and overcrowding classroom space. This possibly limited the ability of some of the teachers to translate their training into classroom practice. It also hindered the role the infrastructure (the classroom environment) could play as a third teacher and how the children could benefit from their classroom environment to aid their learning. Thus, it is recommended that provision should be made to improve on the infrastructure to make it more developmentally appropriate. Additionally, the ECE classroom environment should be carefully arranged to create space to allow for children’s free movement. Tables and chairs used by learners should also be sized to their height and in an appropriate shape (e.g. semi-circle) for their activities and the learning centres should be well resourced and used
THE LEVEL OF FAMILY CONFLICTS AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO PARENTAL ABSENTEEISM AMONG A SAMPLE OF MIDDLE ADOLESCENT STUDENTS
The study aimed at exploring the connection between parental absenteeism and family conflict among a sample of middle adolescent students. In addition, the study sought to identify the levels of family conflict and parental relations among the sample and the link between parental absenteeism and family conflict. The combined effect of parental absenteeism and gender on them. The sample was composed of 446 students, 240 (53.8%) male and 206 (46.2%) female students. The descriptive research method was adopted in this study. The instruments used in this scale were built by the researcher to measure the levels of family conflicts. Results from the study revealed that individuals in the sample achieved an average degree on the scales of family conflicts. Significant statistical differences attributed to gender were found on the scale of family conflicts in favor of females. Moreover, significant statistical differences were found relating to parental absenteeism on the scale of family conflicts in favor of mother absenteeism. An effect relating to the interaction between gender and parental absenteeism was found on the scale of family conflicts except for the dimensions: Psychological problems
THE IMPACT OF AUTOMATION TOWARDS FEMALE LABOR FORCE IN INDONESIA AND THE ATTEMPTS TO ESTABLISH BETTER PROTECTION MECHANISM
In the current era of disruption, automation is considered as the answer of the problem of the decreasing number of workforces which can’t meet the demand of increased productivity for greater growth. Despite the benefit resulted from automation, rapid adaptation of automated technology in various sectors has put thousands of workers under threat on losing their jobs, without any guarantee of a definite substitute job once they have been replaced, especially female workers. The potential of female workers for economic advancement are currently being undermined with less attention given. This paper will discuss whether or not the enhancement of female labor force participation can contribute significantly to the increase of productivity and growth in the disruption era. This paper will also discuss whether or not the existing protection mechanism for female workers is adequate to optimize their potential and at the same time extenuate the adverse effects of automation from a legal and socio-cultural perspectives

BETWEEN FISHING, MINING, AND SUCTION VESSEL: THE COMPROMISE OF TELUK LIMAU PEOPLE, WEST BANGKA, ON TIN MINING AGGRESSION
Teluk Limau Village is a tin-rich coastal village located in the northern tip of Bangka Island and administratively is a part of West Bangka Regency. With its natural wealth, the people of Teluk Limau have long been known as an area rich with marine resources as they are known as fishing villages. As the tin has begun permitted to be freely mined; however, Teluk Limau Village faces three major situations, namely the temptation to mine, the desire to continuously wrestle the marine world, and the lure of suction vessel companies to extract tin in its coastal areas. This paper used qualitative research method to explore information by determining snowball sampling. This study resulted in an attitude crossing among the people in which a half remained to be fisherman, some chose to become miners, and some other chose to compromise with the suction vessels existence that were visibly confronted with fishermen and community miners. After two major conflicts in opposing the existence of an offshore tin mining, the people finally decided to make peace, and even some of them decided to pursue the dual role of seasonal fishermen and seasonal miners. The study finally concluded that in situations where the benefits of all parties could be negotiated, in the end the dual attitude would not be a problem. Being agree to let them operate even disagree to each other's attitude has been the pragmatic choice of Teluk Limau Village people
