DIMENSIONS OF LEARNERS’ SATISFACTION IN THE DELIVERY OF INSTRUCTION IN BLENDED LEARNING PROGRAM IN TEACHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS
This study sought to explore the levels of satisfaction of learners and the delivery of instruction in teacher education institutions (TEIs) in the Philippinesas seen in the HELAM Model proposed by Ozkan and Koseler. Descriptive exploratory methods involving the collection of quantitative data through an adopted questionnaire for e-learning and qualitative data through interviews and focused group discussions were used. The questionnaire was administered to 358 respondents to gather data on learners’ profileand levels of satisfaction in the delivery of blended learning programs. Statistical analyses revealed no significant difference in the levels of satisfaction and learners’ profiles in terms of gender while significant difference was seen when compared with ICT literacy on computer experience. No significant relationship was seen in the various dimensions affecting the level of satisfaction and the delivery of instruction. Qualitative results emphasized availability of fast and reliable connectivity as the primary concern that affects learners’ satisfaction. Findings suggest that learners in TEIs are highly satisfied with the use of the blended learning program. These results indicate that blended learning may provide transformative potentials in the delivery of instruction just as in the traditional face-to-face environment. Likewise, the study also emphasized the importance of carefully re-designed learning environments considering the various dimensions to achieve satisfied learners that may redound into better quality of education.
PRE-SERVICE EFL TEACHERS’ REFLECTIONS: THE CONTRIBUTION OF TEACHING PRACTICUM ON ACADEMIC SUCCESS AND SELF-IMPROVEMENT
Teaching practicum, which provides great opportunity for pre-service English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers to observe, experience and practice the knowledge they have gained theoretically in practical basis, has had a critical role in preparing the pre-service teachers with the skills they required for teaching at real classroom settings. As the research on teaching practicum indicated that there is a significant gap between the theory and practice in EFL education, this study was carried out to explore whether teaching practicum contributed to the pre-service EFL teachers’ academic success and additionally, whether teaching practicum contributed to their self-improvement as prospective teachers of English. The sample group of the current study consisted of 25 EFL pre-service teachers studying their last year at ELT department at Balikesir University in the 2016-2017 education year in Turkey. In this qualitative study, the data were obtained from a background questionnaire, reflective writings of EFL pre-service teachers and face to face interviews. The participants were interrogated to identify their reflections on the contribution of teaching practicum to their academic success and self-improvement as prospective teachers. In this study, the findings were analyzed qualitatively and discussed in the light of related literature
LEADERSHIP EFFECT AND DYNAMIC CAPABILITY ON THE SPEED OF DECISION MAKING IN HOSPITALS
This study analyzes the influence of strategy leadership style and dynamic capability on the speed of decision making with a focus on the object of research in the health industry known as a hospital. The background of the problems faced in this study is that hospitals face turbulent environmental changes and very tight competition that makes hospital management required to be able to make quick and appropriate decisions. Decision making, which is one of the main tasks of the leader, is the process of selecting several alternatives, where expertise is needed to take action, an efficient method that fits the situation. A leader in making decisions requires knowledge and accuracy of information from the problems faced quickly so that he can make accurate decisions, this is very useful to determine the solution of the choices taken. This study uses Hart's (1992) leadership theory which consists of: command, symbolic, rational, transactive, and generative. In addition to leadership factors, it is necessary to examine the influence of strategies where in the context of the dynamic environment a dynamic capability of a company will be used. Leaders must regularly make decisions about how to renew existing operational capabilities into new ones that are more in line with the changing environment, dynamic capabilities are an important challenge for management in their efforts to achieve sustainable competitive advantage. The research data was collected from 300 respondents who were midle management in hospitals. Data was analyzed using the help of SPSS 24 devices with regression techniques. The results of the study show that the company's dynamic capability is more give effect in the speed of decision making than leadership. Generative and rational leadership styles effect the speed of decision making. While dynamic capabilities moderate the effect of leadership on the speed of decision making.
IMPACT OF ROYAL SOCIETY OF CHEMISTRY-YUSUF HAMIED INSPIRATIONAL CHEMISTRY PROGRAMME IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF INNOVATIVE AND ECO-FRIENDLY MICRO-SCALE EXPERIMENTS FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL EDUCATION IN INDIA
Science education in India faces many challenges today. Teaching practical sessions through demonstrations is one of the biggest challenges in secondary school education. Practical work in chemistry is a vital component of teaching and learning process. It is an effective way to enhance students’ understanding of science concepts and the process of scientific investigation. But most of the secondary schools in India don’t have the advantage of well-equipped labs. Specific science activities like chemistry practical may take more time than the teacher would like to spend on them. To overcome these challenges, eco-friendly micro-scale chemistry experimental kits have been developed to effectively perform the practical in secondary schools based on the existing curriculum. This paper explores the way in which the practical activities can be carried out at micro level and how the chemistry activities mentioned in secondary school NCERT textbooks can be modified using low cost and no cost materials for effective class room demonstrations. These innovative and eco-friendly micro-scale chemistry experimental kits developed through RSC-YHIC programme have been proven to be more effective in handling practical sessions, developing practical skills and empowering secondary school science teachers in India

BLAME-FRAME AND PRAISE-FRAME ON THE BOKO HARAM TERRORISM IN NIGERIA NEWSPAPERS: A DISCOURSE EXAMINATION
Boko Haram, as reported by the media, has been terrorising Nigeria, especially since 2009. Linguistic studies on terrorism and Boko Haram in Nigeria have considered, among others, the representations of the group by the media and policy makers. However, insufficient discourse attention has been devoted to the framing tactics deployed by social actors in identifying the roles played by two administrations in the escalation or denigration of Boko Haram terrorism in Nigeria. Yet, the consideration can lend further insights into the Boko Haram operations, and identifying the possible failures and successes in curbing the menace in Nigeria. Therefore, this paper examines the strategies deployed by social actors (political, religious and ethnic) as reported by selected newspapers to identify the roles played by two administrations in the State, Nigeria. For data, different utterances on the blame-praise frames, credited to different social actors are purposively selected from the electronic versions of newspapers from 2013 to 2017 (two years each from two administrations). Guided by aspects of critical discourse analysis, with bias for van Dijk’s ideological structures, the study revealed that there are two broad frames on the administrations: blame-frame and praise-frame. The blame-frame strategies include blame-frame as propaganda tactic, finger-pointing and demonization strategy, justification for political migration, buck passing, and social-control technique. The praise-frame strategies include praise-frame for ventilation and behavioural reinforcement, strengthening bilateral relations, proof of change actualization, and self-praise. The frames are reinforced with sixteen ideological discourse structures, including 'actor description', 'authority', 'categorisation', among others
