AN UNDERSTANDING OF FGM (FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION): WOMEN OF THE ‘BOHRA COMMUNITY’ WHO ARE CIRCUMCISED AND IT’S SOCIO-SEXUAL EFFECTS
The strive for women’s emancipation and equal rights recently emerged as a topic of major concern within the socio-cultural arena of developing countries, such as Pakistan. Lack of awareness and cultural conditioning fosters an unsafe environment towards young girls and women. They are marginalized to challenges of honour killing, forced marriages and ‘Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)’. The latter, remains a widely unknown and overlooked issue within Pakistani society. This paper critically analyzes FGM/C as a physically invasive procedure practiced amongst women, that belong to a tight-knit community of “Dawoodi Bohra Muslims”, in Pakistan. They are considered a sub-sect of Shi’ite Muslims whose roots are thought to be tracked back to regions of Yemen or Egypt, it is also suggested that some of their ancestors might have belonged to African origins. An insider versus outsider approach will explore how FGM/C is not a normalized practice in outsider communities and is seen as a clear violation of human rights by the United Nations. Comparative investigation includes surface revision of quantitative and qualitative data to understand social, psychological and sexual after-effects. Furthermore, collection of primary source surveys and semi-structured interviews enunciate reasons as to why the community practices this ritual. To better tackle themes of gender discrimination, it is imperative to pursue in-depth studies of the religious removal or alteration of clitoris and/or labia from the female anatomy and how it curbs sexual pleasure of women. This topic scrutinizes that a mixed methodology approach allows tolerant comprehension of female circumcision, yet does not nullify acknowledgment of its patriarchal roots and violent nature. Lastly, it will emphasize that cultural male domination can control and morph a woman’s sexual identity. This research topic could contribute towards humanitarian information and approaches which could improve the situation of women that undergo FGM/C
SMART CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENTAL PARAMETERS AS A PARAMETER OF ADAPTIVE LEARNING
This paper presents results of the research aimed at establishing the possibility of using a physical environmental parameter (λ) as one of the parameters of adaptive learning in smart classrooms. In this research, the parameter quantifying physical environmental parameters of a smart classroom into a single value was introduced and the relevance of the usage of the introduced parameter as a criterion of adaptive learning in a smart classroom was evaluated. The presentation of multiple environmental parameters through one unique parameter facilitated the realization of adaptation process, especially in the case of applying several adaptation criteria. An overall of 64 third-year students of the ICT College in Belgrade participated in the research. The implemented research drew certain conclusions. The relevance of using the parameter (λ) as the criterion of adaptive learning in smart classrooms was confirmed

ANALYSIS ON LEXICAL DENSITY AND SOPHISTICATION IN KOREAN LEARNERS’ SPOKEN LANGUAGE
The proficiency level of second language development can be judged by the learner’s output and be used to estimate the learner’s stage of learning. The linguistic production can be used to see how a learner’s language knowledge has been internalized. In this case, factors such as accuracy, fluency, and complexity can be considered. In this study, lexical density and sophistication were analyzed in Korean learners’ spoken production as an aspect of measuring lexical complexity. The lexical density and sophistication scores were obtained from 44 students’ spoken data whose language proficiency varied from intermediate (level 3 and 4) to advanced (level 5 and 6). Also, using one-way ANOVA, statistical analysis was conducted on the differences according to the proficiency of each level. As a result, the lexical density score showed little difference according to the proficiency level, however the difference was statistically not significant. However, in the case of lexical sophistication score, the scores of advanced students were higher the intermediate students. The level of lexical sophistication corresponded with the proficiency level increased, and the differences were statistically significant
USING 3D VIRTUAL ACTIVITIES TO CONDUCT COLLABORATIVE WORK
Collaborative work can be conducted either in a classroom environment or in a computer-supported environment. The virtual world is one such computer supported environment that is used to conduct group activities. In this study, we explore students’ experiences in 3D virtual group activities. We conducted this study with the first-year Information Technology students in a Sri Lankan higher education institute. We planned this study in two steps; in the first step, we explored students’ experiences in classroom collaboration. After that, in the second step, we explored students’ experiences in virtual collaboration. Finally, we compared the results gathered from the questionnaire and found that students had a positive attitude about virtual collaboration compared to classroom collaboration. Moreover, we analysed the interview data qualitatively and identified students’ views about classroom group work and virtual group work. After analysing the data, we identified that students prefer to work in virtual group work than classroom group work. Also, it was clear that students’ participation and active engagement in virtual group activities were higher than classroom group activities. Based on these findings, we conclude that students had a positive experience in virtual group work
VOCATIONAL EDUCATION STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION ON ETHICS STUDY: EVIDENCE FROM ACCOUNTING STUDENTS
Vocational education must operate within a lifelong learning context. Accounting is a vocational study. Besides core accounting knowledge, thinking and practicing capabilities are required for an accountant while judgement with ethical consideration is an important capability. Thus, accounting students should apprehend ethics. This research aims to investigate accounting students’ perception on the importance on ethics themes which are represented by 17 keywords, students were asked to rate how important they perceive an accounting graduate should have learnt these keywords in a curriculum. The focus is on all students, further to gender and the studying year (senior and junior). Data were collected from nine higher education institutes in Hong Kong. Overall, students (n=72) rated “codes of ethics” the most important and surprisingly “independence” as second. Male (39) and female (33) rated differently in many keywords, e.g. “corruption” & “social responsibility”. The difference in rating between students at senior (34) and junior (38) years is narrow, with exception on “corruption”, “corporate governance” and “insider trading”. The findings offer an insight for educators in vocational based education to include appropriate ethics elements in accounting curriculum so to let students attain both core technical skills and skills for surviving in this ever-changing world
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES FOR EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND LEARNING IN UNIVERSITIES IN RIVERS STATE, NIGERIA
The study investigated classroom management strategies teachers in Universities implement for effective teaching and learning. Five objectives, research questions and hypotheses respectively guided the study. The descriptive survey research design was adopted with the sample of the study consisting of 59teachers and 394students drawn from three public universities in Rivers State. The multi-stage sampling technique was used to draw the sample and a questionnaire designed in line with the 4-point Likert scale of ‘Strongly Agree’ to ‘Strongly Disagree’ was administered. The reliability of the instrument was ascertained by use of Cronbach Alpha technique and are liability index of 0.92 was obtained, indicating a high consistency of the instrument. Mean and Standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while the hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance using t-test. The finding showed that teachers and students acknowledged the strategies delineated as those implemented by teachers with respect to: classroom arrangement, expectations from students, and strategies to promote appropriate use of consequences. The researcher concluded that teaching and learning is being carried out effectively in Rivers State Universities and therefore recommended that teachers be encouraged to sustain the adoption of classroom management strategies by recognizing and rewarding hardworking teachers
