ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTATION OF UPLAND INDIGENOUS PEOPLES IN THE PHILIPPINES: BASIS FOR LOCAL RESILIENCE TO CLIMATE CHANGE
Get PDFThe study dealt with the literary works of Ifugaos, upland indigenous peoples in the Philippines to describe their environmental adaptation as basis for local resilience to climate change. It focused on their beliefs, traits and values; their approach and prevailing practices to environment with its strengths and weaknesses; their adaptive management in response to environmental conditions; and from the findings the local resilience strategy framework to climate change was established. The study used qualitative descriptive method which was narrative in nature using literary analysis. The use of spiritual beliefs, rituals and ceremonies; ecological wisdom; forest protection; kinship orientation; sense of tribal awareness and peace pacts; artistic in temperament; and survival as manifested in their literary works were the approach and prevailing practices to environment of the indigenous peoples. The strengths and weaknesses of their beliefs, traits, values, practices and subsistence; and the adaptation process of their adaptive management and community were the bases of local resilience strategy to climate change. The heritage of the indigenous peoples in terms of effective and efficient environmental adaptation should be preserved and dignified by all sectors of the society. Ecological wisdom, forest protection and resourcefulness should be practiced by all. These practices should be integrated in environmental awareness with public dissemination of information and documentation to be initiated by environmental agencies and educational institutions. The Philippine government and non-governmental organizations should enrich the strengths of the indigenous peoples in terms of environmental adaptation; and initiate projects that will improve the modes of subsistence and knowledge; and reduce the beliefs in super natural, heavy dependence on physical environment, conservatism and shyness of the indigenous peoples. The strategy framework to climate change for local resilience is proposed and highly recommended to all institutions and communities concerned for environmental adaptation to climate change.  
BEING GRATEFUL AND ITS IMPACT ON THE LIFE QUALITY OF CANCER PATIENTS
Get PDFThis study was designed to: (a) find out whether any relationship existed between the two variables of gratefulness and life quality, (b) develop an estimate of the direction and strength of the relationship which may exist between the two variables, and (c) examine the demographic variables contributing to Gratitude. Due to the critical condition of stage 3 and stage 4 cancer patients, the researcher selected stage 1 and stage 2 patients as they were in a better health condition which enabled them to be respondents. The total sample under study was 397 cancer patients in the age range of 30-67 years. Three scales were utilized that is the gratitude scale, the QLACS scale and EORTC for cancer patients. Results supported previous research that Being grateful positively correlated to Quality of life (r= .376, p=<0.05). The Mean and SD scores on Gratitude (M= 32.49& SD=3.48) and Quality of Life (M=252.74 & SD=34.46). Through multiple regression, females have contributed to 24% of the variance on gratitude which is significantly very high (t=6.69; P<0.001); further a high social support has contributed to 18.1% of the variance on gratitude which was significantly high (t=2.49; P<0.01). The implication of this study is that being grateful can be used as a significant feature to improve the life quality and bring forward a ray of hope particularly for those who are afflicted with the deadly disease of cancer. 
AN EXPLORATORY STUDY ON INTERFERENCE ERRORS FROM MALAY LANGUAGE TRASNFER TO MANDARIN LEXICON LEARNING
Get PDFLanguage transfer is one of the main factors affecting foreign language learner from learning a target language well. In Malaysia, the number of non-Chinese students learning Mandarin is increasing. However, differences in their language and cultures could impose more difficulties to the non-Chinese students when learning the language. The present study explored the interference errors from Malay language to Mandarin learning of non-Chinese students in terms of lexicon. To this end, learner corpus containing collection of the students’ compositions, dialogues and examination scripts was compiled and analyzed in the study. Four types of lexicon interference errors were focused on, namely (1) improper usage of words (2) word orders error (3) improper usage of collocation and (4) improper usage of culture images. The findings reveal the highest interference error occurs in improper usages of words followed by word order errors, improper usages of collocation and improper usages of culture images. The finding calls for a more effective teaching to be incorporated to raise the students’ awareness on the negative transfer of their native language into Mandarin lexicon learning
RESEARCH WRITING ABILITY OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AS PERCEIVED BY TEACHERS OF SAMPLED SCHOOLS IN QUEZON CITY
Get PDFResearch paper writing continues to be an uninteresting topic for many students. They may not have realized its significance in their relevant discipline and target workplaces especially now that the global context requires a productive research culture that can work along with the newest trends in education. The study shares an objective with The Tarlac State University when it set its goal during the International Research Conference (2017), which is to give avenues for faculty and student researchers to disseminate cutting edge research outputs in a wide range of disciplines while enabling them to build mutually beneficial partnerships with other nations and institutions. This descriptive study was conducted on all the Research teachers of sampled schools in Quezon City. Data were collected by a valid and reliable questionnaire. In total, 93 percent of students reported to be lacking motivation in research writing and the minimum score was found for interest in writing. On the other hand, 100 percent of students noted employing varied motivational activities in research writing as an answer to these challenges. This makes the role of the teacher in the explicit and motivating discussion of research writing through fun tasks in the classroom becomes crucial. 
EFFECTS OF OUTDOOR GAME ACTIVITIES ON ABILITY OF FINE MOTOR USAGE FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD
Get PDFThe purpose of this research was to compare the ability of fine motor usage before and after learning with outdoor game activities for one group trial by pre-test and post-test. The samples were 20 early childhood for 4 - 5 years old in 8 weeks, 4 days each week and 30 minutes per day. The outdoor game activities were focused on using fingers to move with the device by doing activities outside the classroom. The research instruments were the outdoor game activities and Evaluations Development From. Analyze data by Mean, Standard Deviation and t-test by Dependent Sample. The results showed mean 18.60 and standard deviation 3.05 before having outdoor game activities while after having outdoor activity games showed mean 22.80 and standard deviation 2.84. The early childhood has the ability to use fine motor more than before implementing experiment at a significant level of 0.05 (t=17.00, p<.05)

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PRINCIPALS LEADERSHIP PRACTICES, TEACHERS PROFESSIONAL COMMUNITIES & ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT
Get PDFThis study attempts to identify the relationship between perception of teachers on leadership practices of their principals, teacher’s professional communities and teachers’ organizational commitment in private secondary schools in National Capital Region in India. To identify the relationship between three variables, survey is conducted in thirty reputed private schools in National Capital Region of India. A survey instrument is developed using different theoretical perspectives from instructional leadership, transformational leadership combined as leadership for learning, teachers professional learning communities and organizational commitment in schools. This survey instrument is used as rating scale comprising different constructs of all the three variables. The instrument is subjected to pilot testing for reliability analysis and validity on a sample of at hundred teachers. The instrument is administered on 450 teachers from 30 selected schools and data obtained is subjected to analysis using SPSS. The findings reveal that teachers have perceived leadership for learning practices of their principals at moderate level. Teachers have also perceived their organizational commitment and teachers’ professional community at moderate level. It is also found that all of the three variables under study are moderately correlated with each other
THE MANIFESTATION OF URBAN SHAMANISM “DHARMA WHEEL” IN CONTEMPORARY TRADITIONAL DANCE CREATION OF KOREA
Get PDFAs one of the important religions of Korea, Shamanism has collided with Buddhism and Confucianism in the special historical development, which has resulted in localized “difference”. This cultural phenomenon has triggered diversified discussions among the international academia of different fields. During the study in Korea, the author has felt that the traditional dance of Korea, as an important symbol of Korean culture, not only expresses the traditional elements of Korea with an aesthetic attitude in the contemporary society, but also keeps developing by spreading the “contemporary traditional dance creation of Korea”. The author’s research intention has thus been evoked. Through literature review, the author has found that the Korean culture scholars and dancers who are studying Korean culture share a consensus at different levels. On the basis of previous argumentation of other scholars, the research starts from the observation of the “Dharma wheel” manifestation in the contemporary traditional dances of Korea, and explores the seemingly simple relationship between the “manifestation of urban Shamanism Dharma wheel” and the contemporary traditional dance creation of Korea. It makes an attempt to expound the new relationships of Korean dance creation that keeps reshaping the manifestation of dance’s life taking the elements in “cities” as a social mirror, by analyzing and surveying different literature and objects from a cross-cultural perspective. This research is believed to highlight the multiple meanings of disciplines such as anthropology, history and social science to the performing art studies and is expected to fill the research gap in the contemporary Shaman “Dharma wheel” and performing arts through the connection with “contemporary traditional dance creation of Korea”
THE VIRTUAL LABORATORY IN THE ANALYSIS OF ALGORITHMS AS DIDACTIC STRATEGY
Get PDFThe objective of the present work was to apply a methodology in the teaching of the Techniques of Design and Analysis of Computational Algorithms, for the construction of optimal algorithms in the solution of problems. The methodology followed in the investigation began with the construction and selection of measurement tools. The subject of the Techniques of Design and Analysis of Computational Algorithms in Computer Science is very important, since they are a tool for the optimal and effective solution in the solution of problems through the design of computer algorithms, being necessary to investigate what ideas students have or preconceived ideas through diagnostic tests. This document first describes the methodology followed and the results obtained when applied through the virtual material implemented with Gowin's UVE and the conceptual maps (MMCC) to achieve significant learning in the topic of algorithm analysis. The data recorded at the beginning, during and at the end of the course were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively in a comparative manner. This research was carried out in the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of the Culhuacán Unit of the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico in the course of the analysis of algorithms of the fifth semester of
