DETERMINANTS OF DIVIDEND POLICY IN PORTUGUESE BANKING SYSTEM
The purpose of this article is to identify the factors that influence the payment of dividends in banks operating in the Portuguese market. The study uses advanced financial data, in the period between 2005 and 2018. The model analyzed is tested using multiple regressions with data in the unbalanced panel. The results show that the payment of dividends is mainly driven by the historical distribution and the positive influence of performance. In addition, the size of the bank is significant, although with a sign opposite to that expected. Another valuable result is associated with the changes that occurred before, during and after the financial crisis. The study supports the hypothesis of the influence of the crisis on dividend policy. Evidence is presented that in the post-crisis period, dividends were conditioned by the policy of retention of results imposed by the authorities. The study presents limitations that must be taken into account as can represent restrictions on the results obtained. The size of the sample and the explicit policy of retention of results, imposed by authorities on some entities, stand out during part of the period under investigation

A DEVELOPMENT PROCESS OF NO-BURNING IN AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY: A SUCCESS OF PEOPLE’S PARTICIPATION IN PHAYAO, THAILAND
It was strongly confirmed that the burning of biomass caused pollution and was harmful to the environment. This research aimed to develop an efficient process of people’s participation to reduce burning agricultural waste in the society of Phayao, Thailand. It was also to study the impact of people's participation in integrated farming to reduce smog. The research areas were 3 different types where more hotspots were reported. The data was collected by interviewing, questioning, and group discussions through 393 participants from three villages. Descriptive statistics were used for the analysis of data. An application of appropriate cropping system patterns in integrated farming was also used for field research to replace the actual planting of field corn and upland rice. The development method started with people concurrence and cultivating the purposed crops such as sweet corn, chilly, and beans associated with major crops for one year. It was found that there were good yields in all 3 areas. The productive efficiency of each crop assessment presented 77% of farmers cultivated both upland rice and specialty corns. In terms of creating community participation principles and social responsibility concepts, the sample groups emphasized participation in preventing and solving smog and forest fires as a whole at a high level ( =4.17). The result revealed people’s positive attitude in decision making and participation in research activities at the highest level. However, the sample groups agreed at a moderate level to avoid burning agricultural materials ( =3.40). It was recommended that community leaders should increase their roles of communicating information to the community, especially the campaign of community philosophy to jointly solve the problems
CAUSAL AND CONCESSIVE ADJUNCTS IN PRESENT-DAY ROMANIAN: MODALITY AND EVIDENTIALITY
The present study investigates the use of modality markers and subordinators in complex sentences with causal and concessive adjuncts from present-day Romanian. Cristofaro (2003), Longacre (2007), Nordström (2010), Kuroshima (2017), among others, bring evidence from different languages that modality and subordination have much in common, and, even more, that sometimes, certain subordinators can also function as modal markers (as they denote propositional modality – Nordström, 2010, p. 1). In this paper, I do not intend to defend nor to contradict Nordström’s hypothesis, but the purpose of my research is to explain how the modal markers and the subordinators influence each other, and, at the same time, how these elements influence the rest of the complex sentence. Furthermore, I intend to prove that the type of adjunct and/or the corresponding subordinating conjunction influence(s) the speaker’s selection of the adverbial modal marker, and also the selection of the verbal mood. To achieve this purpose, both a qualitative and quantitative analysis will be conducted on an electronic corpu
EXAMINING THE FAITH-BASED US FOREIGN POLICY OF G.W. BUSH IN EXECUTING MIDDLE EASTERN AFFAIRS
The eager towards maintaining all initiatives linked to globalization and international power has permitted nations to interrupt the use of religion in framing its foreign policy agenda. Such use, though some countries consider as a part of the nation’s defense strategy, has characterized the new millennium by a massive disorder threatening international political stability. This geopolitical situation forces researchers to go further in questioning the intercourse between the faith-based foreign policy constructing process and the soft, hard, and smart powers used by nations. The present paper highlights the presence of religion in skeletoning the US foreign policy under the George W. Bush presidency and its effect on the US- Middle Eastern political relationships. With the implication of Bush’s faith, the paper identifies how the president’s foreign policy has been ultimately characterized by an evangelical presidential style and addressed domestically or internationally by extensive use of religious rhetoric

DOCUMENTING THE UNDOCUMENTED: A REVIEW ON THAI-PHILIPPINE LABOUR POLICIES AND THE IMPACT TO UNDOCUMENTED FILIPINO MIGRANT WORKERS
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is in the final stages of its planning for integration in the year 2025 (Valente, 2013; Novio, 2012). Different issues arise on how the focus on economic development can affect social development and impact the human rights of ASEAN citizens (Valente, 2013). One of the issues that are discussed is on migrant workers. The Philippine government sees the integration as an opportunity for more jobs since there will be an increase of exchange on economic goods, yet other labour groups see it as a “further implementation of neo-liberal polcies” (Labog in Valente 2013). The ASEAN Convention on Migrant Workers (ACMW) is focused on creating and implementing policies for skilled migrant ASEAN citizens, and the accreditation of their qualifications among ASEAN members, while there was very few mentioned on unskilled and undocumented workers (Chalamwong, 2012; Hall et. al., 2012; Valente, 2013). This research presents one of the flaws in the system as two members of ASEAN (Philippines and Thailand) have different existing laws, lack laws in accordance with international conventions, and weak implementations of effective laws that led to the increase and abuse of undocumented Filipino workers in Thailand. The research will challenge both states as to accountability and their action plans to change the conditions of Filipino migrant workers, and then improve the policies on ACMW for the benefit of all undocumented workers in the region
