AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE PSYCHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF HIGH-RISK GAMING DISORDER INDIVIDUALS WITH VARIED TIME PERSPECTIVES

    Get PDF
Previous research has demonstrated that past-negative, present-hedonistic, and present-fatalistic time perspectives are risk factors for addiction, while a future time perspective serves as a protective factor. However, the influence of time perspectives on gaming disorder and the psychological differences among individuals with different time perspectives remain unclear. A total of 210 high-risk gaming disorder individuals and 121 low-risk controls were recruited from a university student population. Participants completed the Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI), Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (BIS-11), Motives for Online Gaming Questionnaire (MGQ), and Monetary Choice Questionnaire (MCQ). Cluster analysis was performed using the five subscales of ZTPI (past-positive, past-negative, present-hedonistic, present-fatalistic, and future) as clustering indicators to group the high-risk gaming disorder individuals. Network analysis was employed to compare the differences in network structure and connection strength among different cluster groups. Based on the cluster analysis, the high-risk gaming disorder individuals were divided into two groups. Compared to the control group, Cluster 1 showed higher scores in present-hedonistic dimension, and lower scores in the past-positive and future dimensions. Cluster 2 exhibited higher scores in past-negative, past-positive, present-hedonistic, and present-fatalistic dimensions. Cluster 1 scored significantly lower than Cluster 2 in all five dimensions. In terms of psychological differences, Cluster 2 showed significantly higher scores in gaming's social motives, immersion motives, and gaming-induced improper behavior compared to Cluster 1. Network comparison analysis revealed that Cluster 1 had significantly higher network structure strength than Cluster 2, with significantly stronger connections between past-positive and future dimensions. Distinct differences exist among high-risk gaming disorder individuals with different time perspectives regarding immersion in gaming, social motives, and gaming-induced improper behavior. Interventions and directions for different categories of high-risk gaming disorder individuals should be more targeted, particularly focusing on reinforcing positive past experiences and empowering future orientations

SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS MODERATES THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SELF-ESTEEM AND CONSPICUOUS CONSUMPTION: EVIDENCE FROM AN ELECTROPHYSIOLOGICAL STUDY

    Get PDF
There remain inconsistent findings regarding the impact of self-esteem on conspicuous consumption in social psychology and consumer research. The present study explained this issue and revealed that the relationship between self-esteem and conspicuous consumption is moderated by socioeconomic status (SES). Specifically, the relationship between self-esteem and conspicuous consumption is negative when SES is low, while it is positive when SES is high. These findings were verified through a Go/NoGo association task (GNAT) combined with event-related potential (ERP), which capture individuals’ automatic attitudes towards conspicuous products. The present study contributes crucial insights into the mechanisms of how self-esteem interacts with SES to influence individuals’ conspicuous consumption from an implicit perspective. Furthermore, it offers substantial practical implications for the effective management of consumer marketing strategies across diverse socioeconomic contexts

ANALYSIS OF SETAGAYA WARD'S SYSTEM OF DEVELOPING VACANT HOUSES INTO BASES THAT ARE USEFUL TO THE COMMUNITY

    Get PDF
Setagaya Ward established a consultation service in July 2013 to develop vacant houses into useful bases for the community. This service matches owners of vacant houses with non-profit organizations and produced 22 bases in 10 years. Through analysis of the bases, it became clear that the majority of the bases were using vacant rooms rather than the entire house. Many bases that contribute to social welfare, such as child and disability welfare, have been created. This service can deal with cases that are difficult for private real estate companies to handle. It shows the significance for local governments to operate vacant house utilization systems

The paper discusses the concept of using non-curricular arts to strengthen the social status of engineers by expanding skillset and perception, building bridges, and connections. While there's no definitive answer of how non-curricular arts are used to strengthen the social status of engineers, the study presents some artistic ways of engagement that can impact engineers' social standing by demonstrating creativity and innovation, communication and storytelling, collaboration, and empathy. The study shows that the impact of non-curricular arts on engineers' social status depends on individual engagement, societal context, and how the artistic pursuit is perceived. While not a guaranteed formula, actively engaging in diverse artistic mediums can certainly contribute to a more well-rounded, respected, and connected image of engineers within society. Finally, the paper presents a comprehensive overview of how non-curricular arts can potentially influence the social status of engineers

FROM REJECTION TO CONFRONTATION: A STUDY ON THE ONTOLOGICAL SECURITY PERSPECTIVE OF POLAND’S RELATIONS WITH RUSSIA: Received: 17th April 2024 Revised: 31st May 2024 & 4th April 2024 Accepted: 20th April 2024

In the field of international security studies, attention to ontological security issues has become a focal point. Ontological security at the national level manifests as the dynamic harmony between“national super-ego” and “national Id”, representing a common product in the subject relations. Ontological security crisis is the result of the failure of “national ego” regulation. Positioned in the geopolitical periphery, Poland, over millennia, has developed a distinct“national super-ego” and a strong sense of identity. However, throughout its history, Poland has repeatedly faced ontological security challenges from Russia. For Poland, Russia has transformed from being the “other” to the “excluded”, ultimately becoming the “adversary” in Poland's ontological security. Since the “post-Cold War” era, Poland has endeavored to reshape its ontological security through internal and external measures. Ontological security provides a novel perspective for international relations research

Despite an increased focus on digital transformation, the telecommunication industry has, thus far, seen limited success regarding the effective transformation of its constituent organisations, both globally and in India. Indian telecommunication service providers (TSP) in particular face tremendous pressure to transform successfully in order to leverage the benefits of digital transformation and meet the current business challenges. This research proposes factors from internal organizational perspective that are essential for the successful transformation. This   study has developed a research framework grounded in multiple theories (Resource Based View, Dynamic Capabilities and Disruptive Innovation) and based on detailed literature review. The research model was tested using responses from a robust sample of 294 domain experts in the Indian telecommunications industry. Empirical results indicate that Digital Capabilities, Digital Strategy and Corporate Level Data Strategy has strong significance on the successful Business Performance, followed by IT Function Transformation, and Digital Innovation. This paper analyzes the relationship between voluntary disclosure and managerial compensation in the French context. Our analysis is based on a sample of non-financial French firms listed on the SBF120. By using a score of voluntary disclosure, the results show a significant and positive relationship between managerial compensation and the score of voluntary disclosure. The findings of this study also indicate that there is a relationship between voluntary disclosure and firm’s characteristics. Our results provide a better understanding of voluntary disclosure practices and draw more attention of regulatory authorities to the importance of managerial compensation to improve transparency and voluntary disclosure

INTERVENTION PROCEDURE IN DRAWING CLASSES FOR NON-ART UNIVERSITY STUDENTS: THE IMPACT OF ASSIGNMENT REDESIGN ON STUDENTS’ PERFORMANCE

    Get PDF
Drawing allows students to actively engage with the topic they are learning, as opposed to only taking knowledge passively (Abdullah et.al., 2023). The endeavor to teach fundamental freehand drawing techniques to non-art university students poses distinct challenges necessitating the adaptation of specific instructional methodologies. This study investigates the impact of assignment design as a part of instructional methods in a freehand drawing course tailored for non-art students and its consequent effects on student performance. Employing a multifaceted data collection methodology involving intervention, post-intervention analysis, and self-reflection questionnaires about students' perceptions of the learning process, the study seeks to elucidate which interventions in instructional procedure are efficient in improving students’ overall performance. The study cohort comprises 63 second-year students drawn from diverse faculties at Prince of Songkla University in Hat Yai, Thailand, encompassing eleven students from the first semester and fifty-two from the second semester of the academic year 2023. Through visual analysis post-intervention, informed by standardized rubric score criteria, the findings evince a significant correlation between assignment themes and student performance. Furthermore, discernible enhancements across various assignment categories suggest a marked improvement in learning outcomes attributable to the redesigned assignments implemented in the second semester compared to their counterparts in the first semester of the academic year 2023

UNRAVELING THE AMBIGUITIES IN UNDERSTANDING OF CSR IN THE BUSINESS WORLD: A PROFESSIONAL ETHICS PERSPECTIVE

    Get PDF
The arguments regarding Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) typically revolve around two main perspectives. Thinkers of one perspective assert that Individuals or Organizations should engage in CSR primarily because it is their moral obligation to work for the wellbeing of fellow human beings and the environment because they have the resources to help the people and the government. Thinkers of opposing viewpoint argue that Individuals or Organizations may refrain from participating in CSR initiatives because the primary objective of any business entity is to make profit and pursuit of any other objective is considered to be a waste of resources at the cost of investors. Both these viewpoints appear to form a no-meeting-point web of opposing arguments possibly because the definition of CSR and the perception about CSR generate a lot many ambiguities. The definition of CSR informs about voluntary assumption of responsibilities that go beyond economic and legal responsibilities but the examples of CSR appear to be varied: one moment, it seems to mean the use of corporate resources to operate a program to address some social problem; the next, it is all about charitable donations, and sometime later, it seems to mean providing benefits to employees to improve their quality of life in the workplace. On the other hand, the perception of people about CSR appears to be two-fold: CSR is a moral endeavor and CSR is a business strategy. The people working in the business world and elsewhere perceive CSR as a moral endeavor to help the general lot of people and the environment, but that is also perceived to function simultaneously as a business strategy to promote the economic interests of the organization. We argue in the paper that there is a need to better understand the conflicting domains of definition of CSR and perception about CSR separately and in relation to each other because any ambiguity in the understanding of these two aspects of CSR potentially can pose dangers to the ethically correct practices of CSR in the business world and in the society
