A STUDY OF DUTCH SIEGE TACTICS AND FORTIFICATION DESIGNS IN ASIA DURING THE 17TH CENTURY
The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between the design concepts of Dutch siege fortifications and the VOC's siege practices in Asia in the 17th century. In terms of "the design concepts of Dutch siege fortifications," mainly based on the theoretical work OF BESIEGING TOWNS AND FORTRESSES (Vant Belegherin Der Steden en Sterckten), written by Simon Stevin (1548-1620), a Dutch military engineer. Stevin had served in the Dutch army as a military advisor to Prince Maurice of Nassau (1585-1625), co-planning a number of sieges. Moreover, he was designated to found the engineering school at Leiden University. Thus, Stevin's works reflect the tactics and design concepts of sieges in the 16th-17th centuries. Regarding "the VOC's siege practices in Asia," mainly derived from the establishment of the Dutch East India Company (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie, abbreviated as the VOC) in 1602. Its purposes were not only to gather wealth but also to attack the power of Spain and Portugal. The government empowered the VOC with the rights to recruit troops, purchase quality guns and cannons, and even represent the country to declare war or make peace with the flags of red, white, and blue. As a result, the globe-wide expansion of the VOC led to several sieges in Asia, as well as cross-cultural military exchanges between Europe and Asia

This paper is the synopsis of an ongoing qualitative research project on an intersectional and biopolitical analysis of selected war memoirs written by marginalized female war crime survivors. The primary object of this research is to explore the layers of subjectivity as expressed through the memoirs by women who, in different corners of the world, were subjected to different forms of war crimes during the late twentieth and the twenty-first century. The research paper aims to find whether these life-writings should be recognized only as chronicles of their silent sufferings or as bold proclamations of their resistance against the biopolitical oppressions they were exposed to. In order to do so, a theoretical framework comprising intersectionality and biopolitics will be used according to which the selected memoirs will be critically analyzed. The proposed research will follow a research methodology that is descriptive, correlational, analytical, and exploratory in approach. The primary findings reveal the historical trajectory of women's autobiographical writings related to war and conflicts, identifying the scarcity of such narratives that underscores the challenges faced by survivors in documenting their experiences. The expected outcome is to offer a counter-narrative to official war stories, demonstrating the efficacy of testimonial life-writings from marginalized individuals as human rights activism tools, with potential implications for policy-making, advocacy against sexual violence in conflict zones, and contributing evidence for prevention, justice, and support initiatives, while also highlighting ethical challenges and paving the way for further studies on the intersectional and biopolitical dimensions of sexual violence
SCIENTIST OF THE FUTURE: AN EXAMINATION OF THE CAREER CHOICES AND INTERESTS OF GIFTED AND TALENTED STUDENTS IN THE FIELD OF PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCE
Gifted education provides enrichment and accelerated programs to support high-ability students in their continuous advancement. It is essential for educators to investigate the passions of intellectually advanced students in a particular area to provide top-notch learning experiences. The worldwide COVID-19 emergency requires a rise in the number of pharmaceutical scientists to develop and produce new medications to address the current pandemic and upcoming health issues. This study seeks to investigate the curiosity of intellectually advanced and talented students in the field of pharmaceutical science. A survey was conducted to collect quantitative data from 322 high school students at the PERMATA@Pintar National Gifted Center, located at the National University of Malaysia, who are in grades 8-12. Normality tests (Shapiro-Wilk test and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test) indicated that the data did not follow a normal distribution. As a result, non-parametric analyses were conducted, such as the Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis H test, and logistic regression. The results showed that students' interest in the pharmaceutical science field was correlated with their likelihood of pursuing careers related to pharmaceutical science. The discovery also highlighted the variation in students' interests based on gender. Overall, female students showed greater interest in the pharmaceutical science field compared to male students. These findings suggest a need to enhance the visibility of the pharmaceutical field in order to develop innovative solutions for global health challenges. 
PREDICTING COLLEGE DROPOUT LIKELIHOOD BASED ON HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE DATA: A MACHINE LEARNING APPROACH
College dropout rate is a significant problem, especially in the US higher education system. Among all undergraduate students, up to 40% drop out before completing their degree. This significantly impacts students and Universities alike financially and in wasted efforts. Previous research shows that there are early indicators of college success in the high school record such as grades, attendance, disciplinary incidents, and ACT/SAT scores. Additionally, there are factors in college experiences, especially in the first year of college which impact the likelihood of dropout. However, to the best of our knowledge, there is no comprehensive model that can accurately predict the likelihood of college dropout and provide an early warning either in high school and/or the first year of college. We were fortunate to get access to longitudinal ten-year data of high school graduates of public schools in a county in the United States and were able to follow a subset of students who went to a specific public University. Based on more than one hundred variables from high school and college records and studentsβ final status we trained various machine learning models to predict the likelihood of student dropout and identify factors that play a significant role. Based on this information a prototype decision support system was developed and evaluated
SIMULATING MOLECULAR OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF POLYIMIDE FOR NONVOLATILE RESISTIVE PHOTOMEMORY DEVICES: Received: 07th July 2023 Revised: 31st October 2023, 06th November 2023, 8th November 2023 Accepted: 10th July 2023
In this study, the focus was on utilizing the polyimide (PI) thin film as a resistive conversion layer for organic polyimide-based resistive random-access memory (ReRAM) applications. We utilized the 3D molecular editor WebMO to manipulate and analyze the structures of Aromatic-PI and Quinoid-PI molecules. The molecular chain length, molecular weight, and HOMO/LUMO molecular orbitals were investigated to gain insights into the fundamental properties of PI molecular structures. The analysis revealed that the Quinoid-PI molecule exhibited a shorter molecular chain compared to Aromatic-PI, attributed to the inability of the cyclic structure in Quinoid-PI to maintain a planar conjugated structure, resulting in an uneven overall structure and reduced molecular chain length (Norcorss, 1988). The research results demonstrate that the optical energy gap of Aromatic-PI remains constant regardless of the number of molecular bonds, with a value of approximately 3.2661 eV. In contrast, for Quinoid-PI, the optical energy gap undergoes a significant decrease as the number of molecular bonds ranges from 1 to 5. As the bond count increases to 20~23, the change in the optical energy gap gradually diminishes, ultimately resulting in an optical energy gap of 0.6932 eV. This observation indicates that longer molecular chains composed of Aromatic-PI act as insulators, while Quinoid-PI transforms into a low-energy gap conductor
TOWARDS LOCATING THE NIGHT OF DECREE IN RAMADAN MONTHS WITH MATHEMATICAL CALCULATIONS: Received: 03rd January 2024 Revised: 02nd April 2024, 09th April 2024, 12th April 2024, 15th April 2024 Accepted: 05th April 2024
The Night of Decree (NOD) is the night when Allah the Glorified and Almighty descended the Holy Quran in Ramadan month; and He (TGAA) weighed this night to be better than thousand months. Muslims used to fast in Ramadan to gain this bounty. However, the location of this night was not explicitly indicated; but according to some narrations from the Prophet Mohammed (BPUH), he said to seek it in some proposed periods and individual nights. The methodology of the research is based on findings from previous research by the author on the construction of the Hijri calendar. The basic information of the previous research was derived from a verse in the Holy Quran from which we hypothesized that each 309 Hijri years equals completely 300 Gregorian years. A standard figure was developed from this equality and accumulated for all months. The monthly accumulated figures were broken down into daily accumulated figures (DAFs) for all Ramadan months in 309 Hijri years, and the NOD was identified from these DAFs. We managed to find the locations of this night, which are not far from what came in the prophetical narrations; moreover we added more information in this respect
TYPE-I ASSEMBLY LINE BALANCING WITH WORKLOAD SMOOTHING
Balancing the assembly lines plays an important role in increasing the productivity of the manufacturing systems. Depending on the objectives, there are various types of this problem. In this study, a Type-1 assembly line balancing problem is considered. It is known that the distribution of workload and equal distribution of idle time in station balancing is important for worker motivation and ergonomics. Once the number of stations is minimized, which is the primary objective in solving a Type-1 problem, the optimum solution found should be analyzed in terms of the smoothness index. Otherwise, the idle time can be distributed unevenly to the stations. Hence, one of the classical problems in assembly line balancing literature, Sawyer problem, is considered in this study. Firstly, the problem is solved via integer programming with Gurobi in Python. In the second stage, the line was smoothed via two techniques including the classical one and the proposed min-max approach. Different cycle times are tested and a comparison is provided for the two techniques

This paper examines the influence of different VAT components, specifically VAT inside the country and VAT at the border on the overall VAT as a percentage of GDP in Kosovo from 2002 to 2022. Using multiple linear regressions, the analysis finds that both VAT inside and VAT at the border strongly correlate with the total VAT revenue as a percentage of GDP. However, VAT at the border has a slightly more significant impact, suggesting a higher dependence on VAT collected through imports. These findings imply that policies aimed at increasing exports while reducing imports could enhance local production and, consequently, economic growth. The study is limited by its focus on VAT components without considering other economic factors or countries. Nevertheless, the results provide valuable insights for policymakers and researchers interested in optimizing tax revenue strategies
IMPACTS OF GREEN TRAINING ON THE PERFORMANCE OF LOGISTICS COPMANIES
This paper explores the effects of green training, green intellectual capital, and green logistics practices on the performance and sustainability of logistics enterprises, focusing on firms in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. A quantitative methodology, including Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), was applied to analyze data from 437 respondents representing logistics firms. The results affirm that green training enhances employeesβ environmental skills and awareness, leading to improved operational efficiency and reduced ecological impact. Green intellectual capital supports innovation, fostering long-term competitive advantages, while green logistics practices streamline processes, lower costs, and enhance sustainability. These findings contribute to the broader understanding of sustainable development by emphasizing the strategic importance of green practices in achieving economic and environmental goals within the logistics industry. The study offers actionable insights for policymakers and industry leaders aiming to integrate sustainability into organizational frameworks
IMPACT MODEL OF GREEN TRAINING ON BUSINESS PERFORMANCE
This research explores the effects of human resource management practices, organizational culture, organizational innovation, and intellectual capital on organizational performance, with a focus on enterprises in Vietnam. Utilizing foundational theories such as the Resource-Based View and Dynamic Capability Theory, the study integrates these elements to provide a comprehensive understanding of their combined impact. The methodology employs Structural Equation Modeling to analyze data collected from representative firms, ensuring robust insights. Findings demonstrate that human resource management practices significantly influence employee satisfaction and productivity, while an innovation-oriented organizational culture enhances adaptability and creativity. Furthermore, investment in intellectual capital drives competitive advantage, and organizational innovation directly contributes to improved performance outcomes. These results offer critical implications for both academic research and practical applications, providing strategies for business leaders to enhance operational effectiveness and sustain competitive performance in dynamic markets
