    DESIGN FOR INCLUSIVE COMMUNITIES: UNIVERSITIES AS DRIVERS OF SUSTAINABLE AND SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT NETWORKS IN LOCAL COMMUNITIES

    Communities and networks constitute complex socio-cultural ecosystems wherein participatory design and art practices assume a central role in fostering collaborative creativity and addressing collective challenges. The infusion of participatory design into these networks serves as a catalyst for social innovation, facilitating the active engagement of community members in co-creating their shared environments. Social design emerges as a strong tool, transcending disciplinary boundaries to harness the capacities of art and design in responding to intricate societal issues. This interplay between participatory design and art practices becomes a dynamic mechanism instigating positive transformations within communities, fostering diverse perspectives and inclusive solutions. University-level students can play a crucial role in the convergence of art and design activism, enhancing the impact of interventions with a socio-political dimension. As active participants in civic engagement through art and design, these students become vital advocates for social justice, contributing substantively to community empowerment and proactive determination of future trajectories. The genesis of the "O Bairro está IN(clusivo)" [The Neighborhood is IN(clusive)] project exemplifies this synergy. Promoted by ESAD — College of Art and Design and rooted in the principles of dream, imagination, fabulation, and self-build, the project endeavors to contribute to societal betterment through design and architecture, emphasizing positive transformation of Cruz de Pau's (social housing community in Matosinhos, Portugal) urban space through active community participation. Financed under the “Healthy Neighborhoods Program”, a governmental initiative to enhance the quality of life in vulnerable territories, the project focuses on Cruz de Pau—a neighborhood with diverse demographic profiles and varying economic and social needs. The project engages in workshops and participatory activities involving three generations —seniors, young people, and adolescents —, aiming to improve the surrounding space and leverage local knowledge.     Nowadays, practical scientific studies penetrate all fields of science to develop and advance them, especially education sciences. From this point of view, and based on the fact that Morocco is striving to achieve progress at the level of its global classification concerning the quality of education and attention giving into its human and immaterial capital, there is a fundamental necessity of adopting a preventive treatment plan based on scientific research to preserve the intangible heritage and its exploitation in the development and construction of the generation of tomorrow's Morocco. This research focuses, through a set of scientific methods, on studying the impact of using the digitized musical heritage of the child in order to influence levels of creativity and academic achievement in primary schools with fragile social and economic backgrounds. A multi-scientific approach was chosen for this study, which embraced creativity under two different perspectives: one of creativity as a product and the other of creativity as a process. The methods used to explore the problem were quantitative, in the form of a standardized test of creativity and analysis of score averages, combined with descriptive observation. The results show a positive correlation between the technical research program and the improvement of creative cognitive skills in the Moroccan primary school. However, the results of the quantitative creativity test left some questions about the relationship of the use of arts in education and academic achievement. Creativity has proven that it can be understood more systematically when examined in the context of the creative process. Finally, the current research has led to several points of discussion and recommendations for future research

    Based on Leary’s interpersonal model (Interpersonal Circumplex), Wubbels elaborated the scheme of interpersonal behavior that was completed by questionnaires (Questionnaire on Teacher Interaction (QTI)). Our research involved 110 high school students. The aim of our present research was to determine the teacher's interaction style from the high school students' perspective using the QTI measurement tool. The purpose of the research was to assess how students see the teacher's classroom activities and how the teachers see themselves, and also to see whether there is a difference between the teacher's point of view and that of the students'. The questionnaire contains 48 items. The QTI measurement tool can serve as a valuable source of information for teachers in comparing their self-assessment with the student's view, which can obviously enhance their professional development

    Finding the right balance of mentorship and students’ independence, as students progress throughout different stages of their project-based learning, is key to the success of this pedagogical approach. Students and advisors must have a shared understanding of their roles and responsibilities, as well as the extent of independence anticipated from students. This presentation summarizes literature and research outcomes of what are deemed as the ideal: (1) student group composition, (2) level of involvement and mentorship of the course instructor, and (3) level of learning independence expected from students across different project stages. Insights from this presentation serve as basis for guiding faculty members aiming to yield the most out of their project-based teaching methods.&nbsp

    THE IMMUNOTHERAPEUTIC EFFECT OF IL-22 VERSUS PRAZIQUANTEL TREATMENT AGAINST S.MANSONI –INDUCED LIVER FIBROSIS IN MICE

    Background/Aim:Praziquantel (PZQ), the primary medication for schistosomiasis treatment, exhibits a potential resistance by the parasite. Therefore, the development of a new effective treatment is obligated. Interleukin-22 (IL-22) has been reported to have a hepatoprotective effect. The current study aimed to compare the effectiveness of IL-22 treatment versus PZQ against S. mansoni - induced liver fibrosis in mice. Materials and Methods: Forty male albino mice were divided into control, infected, IL-22 (0.36 µg/kg),  and PZQ (a single dose of 600 mg/kg) groups. PZQ was administered alone or in combination with IL-22. Inflammatory indicators [tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-17 (IL-17), IL-22, and immunoglobulin E (IgE)], hepatic expressions of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3), β-catenin, and miR let-7a gene expressions, and liver granuloma index (GI) were estimated. Results:The present result revealed a significant (P <0.05) reduction in liver GI and the pro-inflammatory cytokine, TNF-α, after the treatment with IL-22. Moreover, the treatment enhanced significantly (P <0.05) let-7a miRNA and STAT3 gene expressions as well as downregulated (P <0.05) β-catenin mRNA, which in turn could reduce fibrosis resulting from S. mansoni infection. On the other hand, PZQ treatment alone or in combination with IL-22 reduced significantly (P <0.05) proinflammatory cytokines and IgE but failed to decrease GI or β-catenin gene expression, which might cause a negative impact on liver fibrosis.  Conclusion:IL-22 could be a potential immunotherapeutic agent for S.mansoni-induced liver fibrosis, compared to PZQ, through activating STAT3 and let-7a downstream signalling pathways and inhibiting β-catenin pathway

    This study reconsidered the function of town cafés as ‘the Third Place’ from the two perspectives of "a place for exchange" and "a place for emotional support" for city dwellers and clarified the following three points based on user’s consciousness and state of mind. In Japan, it was found that many people use cafés as a place to work alone or recover as "my place" type, and that "my place" type tends to use Chain cafés. Those who use cafés as a place for socializing in the traditional ‘Oldenburg type’ chose privately owned cafés and were found to be highly dependent on them. People who use cafés tend to have higher well-being-related indicators, especially those who use privately owned cafés, than those who use Chain ones

    EVALUATION OF GLOBAL INNOVATION PERFORMANCES WITH INTEGRATED MULTI-CRITERIA DECISION MAKING METHODS: EU APPLICATION

    In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the measurement of innovation performance of EU countries with integrated multi-criteria decision making methods and to explain the relationships between them and the realized Global Innovation Index (GII) ranking. Since the GII innovation performance measurement problem is defined in an integrated hierarchical structure and solved with this logic, it is thought to contribute to the literature. The input and output sub-indices in the Global Innovation Index 2023 report are defined in a hierarchical structure and an integrated path is followed from the lowest criterion to the target. The criteria weights of the EU countries were calculated by the entropy method, one of the objective weight determination methods, and the weights found were added to the model and country rankings were realized by TOPSIS method. In the calculation of criteria weights using GII scores, Business Sophistication has the highest weight with 0.21, while Infrastructure has the lowest weight with 0.027.After the Global Innovation Index criteria weights of EU countries are calculated by entropy method, the GII scores of 28 EU countries are analyzed by TOPSIS method using each weight and rankings are obtained. As a result of the ranking using the entropy-based TOPSIS method, Sweden, Finland and the Netherlands took the first 3 places in terms of innovation performance. The 3 countries with the lowest performance were Croatia, Slovakia and Romania. These top three and bottom three countries were the same in both the GII ranking and the Entropy-based TOPSIS ranking. In general, the GII and Entropy-based TOPSIS country rankings give very similar results.  The fact that the calculated rank correlation coefficient is very close to 1 supports this conclusion. For future studies using global innovation index data, it may be suggested to model the problem in a hierarchical structure with different methods and to make comparisons starting from the first year the report was published. In addition, it may be possible to conduct different analyses on subjective weighting methods by using the evaluations of decision makers belonging to different professional groups

    Balancing the assembly lines plays an important role in increasing the productivity of the manufacturing systems. Depending on the objectives, there are various types of this problem. In this study, a Type-1 assembly line balancing problem is considered. It is known that the distribution of workload and equal distribution of idle time in station balancing is important for worker motivation and ergonomics. Once the number of stations is minimized, which is the primary objective in solving a Type-1 problem, the optimum solution found should be analyzed in terms of the smoothness index. Otherwise, the idle time can be distributed unevenly to the stations. Hence, one of the classical problems in assembly line balancing literature, Sawyer problem, is considered in this study. Firstly, the problem is solved via integer programming with Gurobi in Python. In the second stage, the line was smoothed via two techniques including the classical one and the proposed min-max approach. Different cycle times are tested and a comparison is provided for the two techniques
