BETTER SELF-FINANCING EFFICIENCIES OF TOP UNIVERSITIES? THE CASE OF NTU IN TAIWAN
Utilizing Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) in conjunction with financial data analysis, this study assessed the self- financing efficiencies of the top university National Taiwan University (NTU) from 2012 to 2023. The results underscored the infeasibility of the current financial autonomy model for public universities in Taiwan, amidst the simultaneous and rapid exacerbation of the declining birth rate and the widening social wealth disparity. Furthermore, the findings signaled a precarious threat to the financial stability and long-term sustainability of public universities in Taiwan under the existing system. This suggested an urgent need for policy reforms to ensure the financial sustainability of universities and enable them to fulfill their social responsibilities
REIMAGINING LANGUAGE LEARNING THROUGH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND GAMIFICATION FOR GLOBALLY MOBILE LEARNERS IN NON-IMMERSIVE CONTEXTS (WITH A FOCUS ON DAZ/DAF)
This article advances a critical reimagining of German language acquisition for globally mobile learners navigating non-immersive, digitally mediated contexts. Positioned at the intersection of Second Language Acquisition (SLA), cognitive linguistics, and human-computer interaction, the study interrogates the structural and pedagogical limitations of current Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) platforms—particularly their failure to support integrated, skill-balanced development in linguistically demanding contexts such as DaZ/DaF. Drawing on Design-Based Research (DBR), the authors propose a multi-tiered mobile learning ecology anchored in a prototypical application that combines AI-driven adaptivity with narrative-based gamification. This hybrid architecture simulates immersive conditions through city-based tasks, interactive dialogue flows, and CEFR-aligned communicative scenarios. Empirical findings from a purposively sampled cohort of fifty globally mobile learners reveal persistent cognitive and affective challenges, including fragmented input, insufficient feedback, and metacognitive disorientation. The prototype responds by embedding linguistic scaffolding, affect-sensitive interaction design, and dynamic personalization mechanisms to bridge the gap between learner autonomy and structured progression. By repositioning non-immersed learners as central actors in the design of pedagogically rigorous, technologically augmented language learning environments, this study articulates a scalable and theoretically grounded framework for post-immersion language pedagogy. In so doing, it offers a substantive contribution to ongoing debates in SLA, educational technology, and transnational language instruction—proposing not merely an app, but a paradigm shift in how language acquisition is imagined and operationalized in the 21st century

In the post-COVID era, the integration of digital tools in English Language Teaching (ELT) has become increasingly important for promoting interactive and engaging classroom activities. This study investigates the use of Prezi (online platform) in an indoor language game called Explore-Hunt, to enhance student engagement in learning. Using the ASPECT (Assessing Student Perspective of Engagement in an Active-Learning Classroom) framework (Wiggins et al., 2017), the research aims to gather feedbacks from 48 diploma students across two different courses, selected through purposive sampling. Descriptive statistical analysis revealed high engagement across all three ASPECT constructs: Value of Activity (M = 4.81, SD = 0.49), Personal Effort (M = 4.86, SD = 0.46), and Instructor Contribution (M = 4.96, SD = 0.23). The findings highlight the effectiveness of incorporating digital tools and gamification in creating dynamic and interactive learning environments, particularly in TVET ESL education context. The study also contributes to the growing body of research on the application of the ASPECT framework in classroom action research, highlighting the potential for broader adoption of similar active learning strategies. Future research could explore scaling or adapting these methods for use in other ESL and subject-specific classroom

The exponential growth of healthcare data – driven by electronic health records (EHRs), wearable sensors, and continuous remote monitoring systems – has created both immense opportunities and complex challenges for modern clinical decision-making. Effectively harnessing this heterogeneous, high-volume, and high-velocity data requires intelligent systems that can not only deliver accurate predictions but also provide interpretable insights to support clinician trust and patient safety. In this paper, a modular hybrid computational intelligence framework designed to advance personalized, real-time healthcare analytics, is proposed. Our approach synergistically integrates deep learning for high-dimensional feature extraction, fuzzy inference systems for transparent reasoning under uncertainty, and genetic algorithms for adaptive optimization. This tri-layered architecture enables the system to learn from multimodal data sources, including physiological signals (e.g., ECG, glucose levels), structured clinical records, and unstructured patient-reported outcomes, to predict critical health risks such as cardiac arrhythmias, myocardial infarction, and diabetes-related complications. Through experimentation on publicly available real-world datasets, the proposed framework demonstrates superior predictive accuracy, enhanced interpretability, and computational efficiency compared to conventional machine learning and deep learning baselines. Importantly, the inclusion of fuzzy logic modules allows clinicians to trace back the reasoning paths of the system, addressing the growing demand for Explainable AI (XAI) in regulated healthcare environments. This research bridges the longstanding gap between model performance and transparency by offering a scalable and modular solution that is adaptable to diverse clinical contexts. By supporting proactive risk stratification and timely interventions, the framework has the potential to transform reactive care models into intelligent, preventative, and patient-centric healthcare delivery systems
MITIGATION OF WATER SCARCITY IMPACT THROUGH WATER DEMAND PLANNING IN INDUSTRIAL AND URBAN AREAS OF EASTERN ECONOMIC CORRIDOR IN THAILAND
Water demand for industrial and urban areas in EEC area is rising more and more when full development is achieved. At present, industrial, tourism, and urban water demand in the EEC area has reached higher than 800 million m3/year. For next 20 years, the water demand will be higher than 1,000 million m3/year. Therefore, water shortage will occur without new alternative water resources. The objective of this research is to manage water demand by water use reduction, saving and wastewater reclamation for the EEC area. From the research investigation, the appropriate wastewater treatment and recycling for urban area can be suggested for 3 models as a large-scale wastewater treatment with water recycling unit; a cluster wastewater treatment with water recycling unit for small-scale community; an individual on-site wastewater treatment and water recycling unit for office and commercial buildings. High potential of water demand management will be achieved for water saving of 600 million cubic meter per year in 2020 when water consumption can be reduced by 15% for industrial sector, 10% for service sector and 10% for agricultural sector together with urban wastewater recycling in the case of 7 large cities in EEC with large volume of wastewater (larger than 40,000 m3/day). Moreover, legal and economic measures are also important to support the water saving and wastewater reclamation policy for efficient water demand management in EEC zone

To realize sustainable Cultural Heritage buildings and preserve cultural heritage, an appropriate concept of cultural heritage restoration and material appropriate to their function are needed. One of which is brick material for heritage buildings. Current bricks are different from heritage/old bricks, visually evident through their shape and colour. Heritage bricks must be studied to find their characteristics and composition so they can be used as cultural heritage restoration materials in the world. The composition and characteristics of heritage bricks have been studied and the results show that the physical and mechanical properties of heritage bricks vary. Therefore, research is needed on the development of renewable/repair heritage bricks as materials in the restoration of cultural heritage buildings, by identifying the characteristics and composition of renewable bricks. The methods applied include experiments and testing in the field and laboratory. The characteristics of renewable bricks in terms of physical strength have been designed with a size of 5.5x14x25.5 without shrinkage because they come from selected clay, have flat surfaces, sharp corners, and colours similar to heritage bricks. Tests were also conducted on the mechanical properties, such as water absorption, apparent density, and compressive strength, of all heritage bricks, and the best values for use as renewable materials were obtained

In today’s world, increasing environmental concerns have intensified the focus on renewable energy sources and effective energy management practices. In industrial processes, particularly in areas with high energy consumption, waste heat recovery has become one of the primary research topics. Reheating furnaces used in the steel industry reach extremely high temperatures during rolling operations, with approximately 50–70% of this energy being released directly into the atmosphere through flue gases. In this context, flue gases stand out as one of the most significant sources of waste heat. The aim of this study is to recover the waste energy contained in the flue gases emitted to the atmosphere from a slab reheating furnace used in the hot rolling process of the iron and steel industry by means of a recuperator. Through the newly implemented recuperator replacement, 31,274.93 kW of energy recovery was achieved and 6.32 tons of carbon emissions were reduced. Consequently, the amount of energy released into the atmosphere was decreased, and a significant reduction in natural gas consumption of the furnace was obtained
THE CURRENT STATUS OF JOB BURNOUT AMONG ONLINE NURSES DELIVERING INTERNET+ HOME CARE SERVICES AND INFLUENCING FACTORS: A CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY
Statement of the Problem: Job burnout is common among nurses. Related studies have focused on specialized hospital departments such as intensive care units and emergency rooms. In one form of ‘internet +’ nursing services in China, nurses provide home care at patients' residences. A common model involves part-time clinical nurses from tertiary hospitals delivering these services. However, nurses’ means of coping with work stress and job burnout under this new workload have received little attention. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between stress coping styles and job burnout among nurses in China. Methodology: A cross-sectional design was used. From September to November 2024, 287 nurses from seven tertiary hospitals who performed ‘internet +’ services were surveyed. The relationship between stress coping styles and job burnout levels was analysed using the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ) and the Nurse Burnout Scale (NBS). Findings: Nurses reported low job burnout scores (122.29±28.46; ranging 57~228), indicating either extremely mild or no job burnout. Specifically, positive coping styles were negatively correlated with total job burnout scores (r=-0.415, p < 0.01), whereas negative coping styles were positively correlated with total scores (r=0.174, p < 0.01).Factors that influence job burnout include nurses’ clinical department, educational background, marital status, average monthly income from ‘internet +’ nursing services over the past three months, and coping styles. Married nurses with higher academic qualifications working in outpatient and emergency care departments experienced notably lower levels of job burnout. The stress coping styles of nurses who provide ‘internet +’ nursing services in tertiary hospitals and job burnout levels are significantly correlated. Nursing managers should focus on stress coping strategies and job burnout awareness to create environments in which positive coping strategies are encouraged

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN POWER DISTANCE AND COMPULSIVE PERCEPTION OF CITIZENSHIP BEHAVIOR: MEDIATING EFFECT OF SUPERVISOR-SUBORDINATE GUANXI, MODERATING EFFECT OF WORKPLACE CLIMATE
This study examines the relationship between power distance and compulsive perception of citizenship behavior from the perspective of social exchange theory, with supervisor-subordinate guanxi as the mediating effect and workplace climate as the moderating effect. A quantitative research method was used to collect data through a questionnaire survey, and the target population was employees of various industrial enterprises in Taiwan. This study found that power distance and supervisor-subordinate guanxi significantly related to compulsive perception of citizenship behavior, indicating that compulsive perception of citizenship behavior is not only affected by power distance, but also by supervisor-subordinate guanxi. The results of this study have important implications for human resource management practices, especially in compulsive perception of citizenship behavior. The study suggests that companies should promote informal communication and interaction between supervisors and employees, such as dinner parties, in order to reduce the negative impact of compulsive perception of citizenship behavior by reducing power distance
