    Treatment burden, not health risk attitude associated with adherence in patients with mental illness in South India

    Background: Attitude towards health risks and treatment burden may mediate treatment adherence in therapeutic care. There is a paucity of study examining the levels and relationships of these variables in patients with mental illness. Objective: This study was conducted to know the relationships of health risk attitude & treatment burden and medication adherence in patients with mental illness. Settings and design: Cross-sectional, Hospital-based study. Methods and material: One hundred seventy consecutive participants in remission of mental illness were recruited. The patient\u27s details were assessed with Sociodemographic proforma while attitude towards health risk was assessed with Health-Risk Attitude Scale (HRAS). To evaluate the burden of treatment, the Treatment Burden Questionnaire (TBQ) was used while medication adherence was rated with the Medication Adherence Rating Scale (MARS). Statistical analysis used: Descriptive statistics, KruskaleWallis H, Linear regression analysis. Results: Mean score on MARS was 4.9 (SD ± 1.7) while HRAS and TBQ were 62.2 (SD ± 8.6) and 44.2 (SD ± 23). On linear regression analysis scores of TBQ were statistically significant positively linked to HRAS score (R2 ¼ .35, df ¼ 1, F ¼ 94.2, p ¼ 0.001), While Scores on MARS were statistically significant negatively linked TBQ and HRAS score (R2 ¼ .53, df ¼ 2, F ¼ 97.1, p ¼ 001). Conclusions: Health risk aversion and treatment burden may upraise in mentally ill, and linked to poor medication adherence

    In India, there are 20.2 per 100000 new cases of Cervical Cancer diagnosed and 11.1 per 100000 deaths annually accounting for more than one fifths of global cervical cancer deaths. [1] Thus, due to an absence of a national immunization program to cover human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination and lack of accessible cervical cancer screening, the disease is characterized by late detection, lack of access to affordable and quality health care, and high mortality rates. [2] Papanicolaou Smear Test was a novel invention by Dr George Papanicolaou in the year 1927 which gained maximum popularity in 1950 as a screening test for Cervical Cancer. Liquid based cytological technique has been recently developed and has gained popularity because in preliminary studies the use of such techniques was associated with a reduction in incidence of inadequate cervical smears. [3, 4] Manual Liquid Based Cytology (MLBC) is a technique that enables cells to be suspended in a monolayer and thus improves detection of precursor lesions and improvement of specimen adequacy. MLBC has been reported to improve the effectiveness of cervical cancer screening in a population by increasing the detection of histologically confirmed neoplastic and preneoplastic disease while simultaneously decreasing over diagnosis of benign processes. [1] Liquid-based cytology (LBC), although claimed to provide clearer background and better preservation of nuclear and cytoplasmic details, have yet to be proven to have better sensitivity and specificity for identification of high-grade cervical intraepithelial lesions compared to the conventional smears.[5] P16 expression, which can be detected immunohistochemically, is directly related to the presence of HPV [8]. Thus, this protein can be used as a biomarker that can add significant diagnostic precision in the assessment of CIN lesions [7, 9]. Add about ancillary technique like use of immunomarker p16 on mlbc. The aim of this study is establishing that MLBC with p16 immunomarker is very effective in screening for cervical cancer as it overcomes the major setbacks like inadequate sampling, drying artefacts and obscuring blood which are seen in conventional PAP smear technique

No history of nausea/ vomiting/ loose stools/ fever/ melena/ hematemesis/ jaundice/ethanol abuse. The patient was not on any alternative medication. Physical examination was within normal limits. Serum amylase and lipase were elevated , measured 152U/L and 780 U/L respectively. AST/ ALT/ ALP were elevated , measured 88/139/308 respectively.     Determining Vitamin D Status: A Comparison Between Diabetic And Non-diabetic Women With Breast Cancer By RP-HPLC

    Background: Suboptimal levels of Vitamin D, remains a common problem worldwide and its prevalence is high in India, ranging from 70-100%. Several molecular mechanisms have been found about the effects of Vitamin D in modulating glycemic levels and its protective nature in the development of breast cancer. Breast cancer in India is a common problem and studies regarding its association with Vitamin D levels among diabetics remain inconclusive. This study aims to find the association between Vitamin D status and breast cancer in diabetic and non-diabetic women. Materials and methods: 25 hydroxy vitamin D levels were estimated by RP-HPLC. A total of 25 serum samples were analysed (20 Breast cancer patients+5 normal). Results: Serum sample analysis report of breast cancer patients (irrespective of diabetic status) showed 50% low Vitamin D compared to normal individuals. Conclusions: Vitamin D deficiency is very common among women suffering from breast cancer. Although diabetic breast cancer women have lower Vitamin D levels when compared to non-diabetic women, the results in this study are not statistically significant
